Mr. Ernie Davis experiences in life is truly a symbol of the greatness and horror of America history. We should learn from this great man journey in life to build a better society. May you rest in peace Mr. Davis.
Students may have cleaned it last fall but it is made of stone that is polished. Most headstones in the cemetery look like that for years with little maintenance. Thanks for watching!
such a sad story after his Heisman Trophy win, a nice kid with so much potential. He would have not only been a player to remember but a man as well. his life was cut way to short for what he brought.
I lived and grew up in Elmira all my life prior to just moving. We knew about Ernie Davis and his story for years prior, and are so happy that it was finally told to the world!! He was truly an amazing individual!
I have seen Ernie's grave a hundred times, and every time it moves me. Growing up in Elmira, we hear alot about Ernie., how great a football player he was, how fast he could run. But what my mom told me about Ernie sticks with me, the better half of thirty years later. " Ernie was a nice person, who would give you his last dollar if he thought it would help you" thank you posting this video.
Ernie Davis is one of the most impportant people of the 20th century because of that emotion he stirred in all of us. Being the first black to win the Heisman made his legend even greater. I never knew racism existed until Jim Brown was denied the trophy. I always felt the equality of the races after Ernie got his. RIP Ernie, for with your quiet grace and righteous way you have surely earned your rest
Thank you for posting this. I am one of a dwindling number of people who saw Ernie play at Syracuse. He was electrifying with his speed and intelligence on the field. More important was the grace and poise he showed off the field. The most poignant moment of the movie for me here in Orlando was looking around the theater and seeing very few blacks there. The one man who sat next to me saw that I had tears in my eyes at the end. He told me that he never thought a white man would care so much.
Maybe you went to a movie theater where not many blacks attend. But you usually don't many blacks at movie theaters; unless you live in a predominately black area.
A great football player and person. We lost him too soon. Thanks for posting this.
