The Cayman is better not because it's quicker, or because it handles better, or because it has a nicer interior with more storage space. It's better because it's all of these things at once. But, considering it's near impossible to find a pre-owned 2009 Cayman S for less than $50k, you could be forgiven for asking the question "Why spend 50% more for 5% more performance?" The answer is I Don't Know. I just know that the Cayman feels good, and the Z feels big and sluggish and boring.

Not sure guys, but I have a red 370z and have had many porsche's and the nissan for the price out performes a car much more expensive and has all the bells and whistles. I would highly recommend the nissan to anything out there in the price range and much higher.. Just for the record, before my full synthetic oil change I only lost to a Roush 427 by about 4 feet in the quarter mile.. I think now I can take him.... Granted I have raced for 10 years and the other guy not so much. shows potential.

The 370Z is a beautiful car. I own a Cayman S because it's more of a roadster in my opinion.I work in the Aerospace engineering field, which helps me some in the ability to substantiate the cost differential, as it relates to quality. The Porsche is worth the extra money for the extra quality, if that's your interest. I'd love to drive a 370Z due to the lower end muscle. I am also curios about the cabin noise(it's very nice on the Cayman). Both are excellent sports cars. IMO Porsche is superior!

I litterally just drove these two cars back to back, and am seriously flabbergasted at how bad the 370z actually is. The performance gap is WAY bigger than the GTr vs 911 turbo... The 370 feels like it weighs 4000+ lbs with heavy break dive and emphasised body roll. The steering is numb and slow, and feels as disconnected as a video game. On top of everything, the z feels slow... with all of the power concentrated at low RPM's, there is not incentive to rev. I'll pass and buy a used Cayman

Better to pay the extra money and get the German car: more refinement, less cabin noise, a more direct feel to the steering - and the reputation of Porsche as a sports car builder.
Base price $31k vs $62... literally double the price. And the Z very competently holds its own. And in my eyes the styling truly makes me prefer the Z even if price was no object. I'm not a fan of paying for a shiny emblem.

AND, the Porsche's are raw and analog while with the GTR, the car basically drives for you. Almost to the point of cheating really. With 911's you get traction control and that's basically it. With the Nissan, you can't wreck or spin it if you try basically. Nissan wishes it had the pedigree of 911.
I'm not going to knock either car. The Z from Nissan has been one of the best selling sports cars in North America ... affordable, fierce, attractive ... but on the other hand, Porsche has always been my favorite car maker as I've always admired the 911 series and the Carrera GT. if you care about the price, why not thinking about taking a used porsche in proper shape instead of a new nissan 370z? lets say 5 year old cayman s with 50tkm for ~33k€. let some years pass and compare the cars values again and you will see that the porsche didn't lose that much in contrast to the nissan. and to be honest i would always prefer a used porsche in proper shape and with all services done against any new 370z or whatever beween 30k€ and 40k€.
aging is a cars problem porsches do normally not suffer that much as others do. to be honest i don't why. - quality, durability, reliability or whatever. but a 5 year old porsche feels almost the same a when it was new. same for 10 years and so on. wether most other cars start losing quality and feedback and handling much faster.

For example, he likes Mid Engine cars, where in reality Front engine cars take turn much better on average. The styling and design is also biased, considering it's his opinion. Also, the way the Z handles is different than the Porsche; the Z will make you work harder to control, but it also enables much better final handling. The Z is just as good as the Porsche, but it's a Nissan.
I think Cayman looks are better, but for the money 370z is bang for the buck. Both good cars, but I say compare Cayman S to a M3 since it almost costs the same

Really it's so stupid to argue about this! English has existed for over 1200 years in Great Britain, and America has only existed for just 250 years! Obviously the British are saying it the correct way. Americans always try to find ways to make their language more simple and and turning the "Zed" into "Z" was another simplification
Plus doesn't saying "Zed" sound cooler than saying "Z"

Not sure guys, but I have a red 370z and have had many porsche's and the nissan for the price out performes a car much more expensive and has all the bells and whistles. I would highly recommend the nissan to anything out there in the price range and much higher.. Just for the record, before my full synthetic oil change I only lost to a Roush 427 by about 4 feet in the quarter mile.. I think now I can take him.... Granted I have raced for 10 years and the other guy not so much. shows potential.

The 370Z is a beautiful car. I own a Cayman S because it's more of a roadster in my opinion.I work in the Aerospace engineering field, which helps me some in the ability to substantiate the cost differential, as it relates to quality. The Porsche is worth the extra money for the extra quality, if that's your interest. I'd love to drive a 370Z due to the lower end muscle. I am also curios about the cabin noise(it's very nice on the Cayman). Both are excellent sports cars. IMO Porsche is superior!

I litterally just drove these two cars back to back, and am seriously flabbergasted at how bad the 370z actually is. The performance gap is WAY bigger than the GTr vs 911 turbo... The 370 feels like it weighs 4000+ lbs with heavy break dive and emphasised body roll. The steering is numb and slow, and feels as disconnected as a video game. On top of everything, the z feels slow... with all of the power concentrated at low RPM's, there is not incentive to rev. I'll pass and buy a used Cayman

@arena2101 but who the fuk would buy a fuking porche cayman considering the price difference... the 370z torques at 5000rpm and i can verify that myself it has some serious pull at high revs and does 60mph in 5.3 seconds.. not bad for a 3.7litre naturally aspired V6 engine. (245kws at the rear wheels)

Base price $31k vs $62... literally double the price. And the Z very competently holds its own. And in my eyes the styling truly makes me prefer the Z even if price was no object. I'm not a fan of paying for a shiny emblem.

@EvilKratos89 Are you kidding? The GT2 and GT2RS both smash the GTR and the GT3RS, while not as fast in a straight line, got voted best handling car by just about every magazine out there. AND, the Porsche's are raw and analog while with the GTR, the car basically drives for you. Almost to the point of cheating really. With 911's you get traction control and that's basically it. With the Nissan, you can't wreck or spin it if you try basically. Nissan wishes it had the pedigree of 911.

I'm not going to knock either car. The Z from Nissan has been one of the best selling sports cars in North America ... affordable, fierce, attractive ... but on the other hand, Porsche has always been my favorite car maker as I've always admired the 911 series and the Carrera GT. You can add SO many things to Porsches as well (but not for a cheap prices of course) ... both cars last and I just get tangled up in both worlds!

I hope everyone up know that Motor Trend had the Nissan 370Z 0-60 in 4.7s, do a search on youtube and you see. Every driver get different number for some reason. But most drivers get 370Z from 0-60 in 5.0-5.1s
And that the Nissan GT-R was the first sport car back in the early day to beat the Famous German Track in under 8 minutes mark.

Ill take the porsche. Not only does it have high prestige but Porsche is the original maker of everything Nissan is attempting to become. They COPY EVERYTHING, their bench mark for the 370z was a Cayman and their benchmark for the GTR was a 911 TURBO. I personally Like Nissan but id much rather go for the original not the cheap KNOCKOFF.

But now that the new 2012 Nissan GT-R come out with 530 hp and 485 lb.-ft of torques, the new Nissan GT-R should give the 911 Turbo S a run for it money.

i do really not get the point of this discussion at all. i do own a porsche cayman s, but honestly also thought about buying a 370z instead. i also tried out z4, z4m, m3, TTs and TTrs. but in the end nothing felt like the porsche did. s othe decission was a rather easy one. and in this range it's not all about performance and hp. those who think so should really better go with the 370 or a used 350 and spend some bucks on tuning it. ;-)

if you care about the price, why not thinking about taking a used porsche in proper shape instead of a new nissan 370z? lets say 5 year old cayman s with 50tkm for ~33k€. let some years pass and compare the cars values again and you will see that the porsche didn't lose that much in contrast to the nissan. and to be honest i would always prefer a used porsche in proper shape and with all services done against any new 370z or whatever beween 30k€ and 40k€.

aging is a cars problem porsches do normally not suffer that much as others do. to be honest i don't why. - quality, durability, reliability or whatever. but a 5 year old porsche feels almost the same a when it was new. same for 10 years and so on. wether most other cars start losing quality and feedback and handling much faster.

people keep comparing the specs and the numbers and the price. If you don't get it you just don't get it. An old fox body mustang could beat both these cars with a few hundred dollars spent in a nitrous kit, so what? For those who prefer the quicker turn in, better balance, and refinement of the Porsche, it's worth the extra money. The Z is a great car but the engine is pretty thrashy, and a little front heavy.

@87hi He's saying that the guy was completely biased. The stuff on the Z just wasn't his particular style of car. For example, he likes Mid Engine cars, where in reality Front engine cars take turn much better on average. The styling and design is also biased, considering it's his opinion. Also, the way the Z handles is different than the Porsche; the Z will make you work harder to control, but it also enables much better final handling. The Z is just as good as the Porsche, but it's a Nissan.
