When he belts out that "I guess it doesn't matter" at 5:33, it makes me want to cry... it is so amazing... he is so impassioned... this is definitely one of the best dews I have ever heard/seen... right up there with Winterland 1974 from the movie... just fantastic
There is parts to this song/video that literally raise the hair on your arms. Garica was one of a kind. No doubt, clean, Jerry was fricking on fire with this one.
...Please don't be sad,.. I guess if it was the straight life you'd had, we would'nt have known you all these years.....
For all of us who'd been on the bus for years prior to this and beyond, we we're truely blessed. I rooted for Jerry towards the end and during moments like this I watched in awe. All these years and I'm still in awe. It's awe / pride mixed with an occasional tear. Miss you Jerry, Thanks !!!!
An absolute stunning show stopper. The hairs on my body are all standing up and a tear is in my eye, Jerry at his finest. Thank you for posting God bless youtube...God bless the Grateful Dead.
The cameraman here definitely knows wassup!!!.... ;>) Not trying to rag on the rest of the band, but as a guitarist myself (who often tries to imitate Garcia) I just get so much more out of the vids that focus solely on him. Guess this is true of any guitarist I'm trying to watch/study, but even for all you non-musician Deadheads; is there really anyone else you would prefer to watch, esp during Dew...?
The first time I heard this Dew since that night at the Garden was about four or five years ago as I was driving down Interstate 81. WARNING: Do not operate heavy machinery while listening to this Dew! When Jerry goes off on that single note at about 7:38, I literally almost ran off the road. A true "WTF was that!?" moment. Chills, goosebumps, euphoric recall -- you name it. Not sure how, but I had completely forgotten how ridiculous this Dew really was.
I for one feel blessed to have seen breakouts of Sailor>Saint, WR Suite, The WHOLE Terrapin, Mountains of the Moon, Golden Road, St. Steven>The Eleven, New Potato Caboose, Pride of Cucamonga, and so many others given new life!!! Let the haters do what they do best...Hate!
The Fat Man Rocks Out! Hinges Fall Off Heaven's Gates!
BTW, I saw Jerry HUNDREDS of times and those who are unhappy with their various incarnations since his passing have closed their hearts and ears. How many heads have said too me "since (fill in the blank Pig/Keith/Brent/Jerry) died things just aren't the same" WELL DUH! The only constant is change and YOU GET OUT OF A SHOW WHAT YOU GIVE TOO A SHOW!
1st and only time i scalped tickets for a dead show -(made a mistake with my mail order and addressed the envelope incorrectly, by the time gdts got it they were sold out. thankfully they were able to fill my other orders for this tour.)
This is truely one of the greatest moments caught on video. I do love this version but I would have to say the better version from this tour was only 6 night before at the Cap Centre 9-12-87. All in all what a great moment in time.
It really does not get any better than this. I must have watched this 100 times other than being at the show when it went done qnd it never ceases to blow my mind.. Lightnin' this is one of your best bro.EPIC.
@blare37 Wow someone that feels exactly like me i mean i know there are more out there but really pig, keith, brent after that it went downhill waaaayyyyy fast.
@coyote023 The crowds coming to the shows made sure of that. Had Jerry even lived, I doubt they would have been invited back to places like Deer Creek. I left the tour after those asshats broke down the fence. I had watched them do the same thing years earlier at Star Amp in Pitt. We were supposed to be camping at the campground at the next set in Riverport MO. I most definitely would have been on that canopy that collapsed.
I was lucky enough to be at this one. It was a completely unforgettable experience. This "Morning Dew" could convert the most ardent skeptic into a life-long believer!
This is so mind blowingly good! Best Dew ever? Show me a better one. Especially knowing I was there! Jerry opened up the skies after this one! Man did it pour that night in NYC!
ok guys and gals i have traded tapes of the boys before deadbase and the internet, when u had to no ppl and whatnot, let me tell u about this show!!!!fucking not one bad song, jer hit's what we call THE BIRD NOTE at about 7;38and u wont find another one even close, this is one of there best shows of the 80s and prob of there career!tx u jerry and the boys and again how the fuck is he not on the rs top ten of all time????
@TheYankees2300: You're 29 and you traded tapes before there was Deadbase? You must've had a lot of help from your Mommy trading when you were a toddler. And dude - you're 30 fucking years old - Learn how to write fucking English.
@TheYankees2300 Bro you really come across as a complete jackass with your beginning''guy's and gals'' with your tape trading and let me tell you about this show guy's and gal's. What year did you start catching shows?do you know who brent is ?let alone keith and donna? you are just another loser acting like you have seen shows that you have not. now go and see furthur as lame as they are and stop being so freaking fake and such a loser
@jbdfc Sorry ace but i do not waste my time with a youngster like you that never saw a note of the grateful dead. Now go and listen to that plastic grateful dead cover band ''furthur''. Just one thing why is it that furthur does most show's with at least 80 percent garcia songs?
@coyote023 ur a jackass as i see u make fun of kids that never had a chance to see them ?? i hate heads like u and i have seen most likely more shows then u and would never talk down to ppl cuz they were not lucky like me to see them ,also i doubt that u have een them cuz u treat ppl like crap and that.'s not how it goes ! stop posting and let other's enjoy this ! my older bros got me into the boys and they are much older d bag so put that in ur pipe and smoke it! have u seen the light ? ???
@TheYankees2300 WHAT IS WITH ALL THE HATE MAN? PRETTY FUNNY YOU ARE 30 YEARS OLD BUT YOU HAVE SEEN MORE SHOWS THAN ME. YOU ARE A NOBODY THAT CANNOT SPELL AND YOU ARE MAKING AN ASSHOLE OF YOURSELF "TRADING MUSIC BEFORE DEADBASE WAS PUT OUT". "BIRD NOTE"?. YOU REALLY SOUND LIKE A NOBODY WITH"THIS SHOW MAY BE THE BEST OF THEIR CAREER" GET A GRIP GO BACK TO SCHOOL AND LEARN HOW TO SPELL AND READ THEN MAYBE YOU CAN READ ABOUT ALL THE SHOWS YOU SAY THAT YOU WENT TO. REMEMBER YOU ARE A NOBODY GOT IT
I have watched this countless time over the past year and it keeps getting better. Jerry's playing is so poignant and brillant. The vocals are extremely emotional and the band and sounds simply amazing. One of those moments that made all the tough times worth enduring.
A convergance of years of effort from the greatest band ever.
Yeah this is THE Morning Dew. There may be other versions that do a little thing here or two better, but it doesn't get much better than this. It brings tears to the eyes of my friends when they listen to it - it has that kind of effect. So 9/18/87 will always be remembered for its Morning Dew, just as 10/28/77 has the absolute best Casey Jones. And if you don't believe me on that last one, listen to it and then we'll talk. Peace!
Nope! I must agree. This is certainly the best Dew and is widely realized as such. The undisputed best show is 05-08-1977 and that morning dew, until this one, was the hands down best by most Deadheads opinions. I am honored to have been their too! Indeed the La Bamba stint was fun too! This entire show is in the top 10.
