@Meestarcheez Thought I'd give you a heads up. Although you may already know by now; 1. It is not impossible, it takes skill, talent, or simple practice. 2. If you find it too hard to stay alive during this, there is a code for invincibility on the 360. Code is-(during gameplay, no need to pause or anything), LB, Up, RB, Up, LB, LB, Up, RB, RB, Up. The LB and RB being the top bumpers, and the Up being Up on the D-Pad.

I heard someone played this section with the comments of Valve on. And that guy said, the striders will NOT destroy any building as long as you dont see the building or so. Meaning, do not look at the building you try to save. I never tried it, though. Because I still have to get to this point :P

I like how alyx previously states on the crashed strider gunship that "white forrest torrets did a hell of a job", implying that gunships can't even come a few hundred meters close to the base, and in this battle you see them hovering directly over that rocket silo. That's either a plot hole or Valve was pretty lazy on that part. lol

It's easier to run the hunters down in your car, and the game allows you to have a maximum of 5 Magnussons on the ground anywhere on the map (that doesn't include the one you're carrying or the one on your car).

Also, before the battle starts, you have unlimited time to prepare, so head to the other 2 out posts(water tower and cranes) and drop 2 Magnussons on the ground outside, and pick up the energy balls for the pulse rifle which only spawn once and really help(they 1 shot a hunter).

you shud put the difficulty to easy if you want to get hard achievements especially the fucking riding shotgun chapter where you need to carry the little gnome and a helicopter chasing you.. THAT WAS SO FUCKING ANNOYING

This strategy looks really interesting. As the strider fight is the next I'm up against I probably follow this vids to get it done. Anyways, as I heard opposing statements about this: Are only the fast ones taking down buildings? Or the slow ones too? And what is it about that statement in commentary that the strider will only fire when you can see the building getting destroyed?

Just did this on Hard difficulty earlier tonight...holy shit, it was hard...damn Hunters make it twice as hellish...and even though I've long since gotten the Neighborhood Watch achievement, I always save all the silos (OCD lol), and man it's such an awesome feeling finally beating this battle, and hearing all those soldiers cheering in victory and saying "Way to go, Doctor Freeman!"

Man...makes me want Half Life 2: Episode (or Half Life 3, whichever one's next) to come out even more now.

I found that using the shot gun instead of pistol works best so you don't have to be too precise in aiming at the sticky bomb.

I hated this one soo much, next to get some grub. I had trouble even guarding the base, let alone the freakin buildings.. (it didn't help that my car's wheel's were glitched in the ground and couldn't move)

Well, whenever you do get the chance, give just about any FPS a shot (preferably the Orange Box, but it's completely up to you), and then you'll see that it's a tad trickier to work with. Not completely impossible, but it does take a bit getting used to.

Also, I personally find Mouse + Keyboard easier than analog controller, that much is obvious.

They're good you have to fight a single Hunter. When in a rush, crashign into them is better. The problem is that you first need to be a good driver.

I'm sorry, but there are in fact cheats for the Xbox 360 version of the orange box. And Gatorbait is correct, that is the code for infinite health. Although I am highly against using cheats like this (especially to get achievements), I am just making you aware that that the previous code does work. Unless you are trying to be sarcastic, which hasn't really worked really well.

I'd say god mode or not, it'll be just as hard to take out the gung ho strider (runner) who takes out the Sawmill if your a millimeter too far away.

He shows you what to do about that before he starts the fight though, you park the car with a gravitron or whatever on the back, park it away from the sawmill closer to where that thing will be, and use another magnessun device for the other one. its not even that hard to do on hard if you follow his walkthorugh

There is an odd way to kill hunters. If you find a heater and pick it up with the gravity gun and shoot them with that, then they go down in three or four hits.

RE: Using cars to kill the hunters - Using logs is better because:

1) I found that the hunters side-stepped the car at the last minute;

2) I'd drive into the strider's legs, or end up facing away from a 2nd or 3rd hunter only to get shot in the back; and

3) The log acts as a shield for the hunters flechettes, and when you shoot the log back the flechettes cause damage to the hunter.

Haha. This video is the help. The key is to leave the M-device close to the hill that strider emerges from so you can run to it. You can't run with a M-device in your hand, so to sprint as long as possible, you'll need to have that device waiting for you.
