  • Awww! Look at that little baby. <3 Won't stay that little for long, though.

  • what are pinkies??"

  • @lilkeem15 pinkies are mice when born , so a baby mouse. their are categories of the lifetime of a mouse like a week old mouse is referred to as a hopper.

  • @lilkeem15 baby mice

  • is lighting required for tegus, just like it is for iguanas? Or do tegus only need the heat?

  • yea i am getting a black and white tegu but i got a bearded dragon just resently and hes growing extremely fast lol i got a 55 gallon tank for him and his sister but i dont think he will be big enough XD ive never seen one grow so fast

  • i use clear bins like that for my snake of course with lighting

  • Hehe, I like how he shakes each pinky before gulping it down JUST to be sure.

  • Komodo dragons are venomous too. I know somebody is gona be like "it's the bacteria in their saliva" yes that's deadly too but they have venom glands. Google it

  • are you guys crazy tegus are non venomous very well domesticated lizards theres only 2 kinds of venomous lizards the beaded lizard and its cousin the gila monster

  • is that a blue? the nose looks a little black

  • is it black and white or gold

  • i like how they drag their head to align the fool down their throat.

  • Is the Tegu venomous? like, poison lizard?

  • nope but the southeren Tegu is easy to handle, but the northeren are more agresive :)

  • the tote feeding is a good practice, it keeps them from equating your hand with food

  • im thinking about buying a tegu what do you think would be the best one?

  • holy shit those are pinkies from far away when you just showed it they looked like wax worms any way nice tegu and i subbed!

  • poor pinkys xDDDD!!!! i miss my Tegu =( she was so beatiful and i loved play whit =(

  • how big do they get?

  • like, i think maybe 4.5 feet but most of the length is their tail

  • aww he/she is soo cute :D i want a tegu. but i have a sav so i dont have the space :) (an iggy too)

  • Comment removed

  • rankins dragon;

  • @herpo14292 a Rankin's dragon is basically a dwarf bearded dragon.

  • @NovAnthony I know thats why I suggested it.

  • Oh I didn't see the comment asking for suggestions. My bad.

  • @NovAnthony No worries dude.

  • Crested Gecko, Leopard Gecko

  • @jerseytimebomb ball pythons are so much easier

  • Leopard Geckos are great starter lizard. I have one!! She is a very cool lizard. they are easy to take care of too!

  • leopard gecko's the best for beginners

  • @THEEEMOMELON actully blue tongued skink would prob be better.... EXTREMELY TAME XD

  • Well no actually the leopard gecko is alot better for beginners. They are very hardy and don't require as much looking after.

  • @herpo14292 imo bearded dragons are best

  • @Reptopia thats your opinion but they need alot more equiptment, spot lamps, bigger vivs, they have alot less colour morphs, uv bulbs, all that has to be hooked up to dimmer thermostats, then theres diet, dragons need salad in their diet as well.

    Still everyone has their opinion

  • @cool1Harrison blue tongue skinks

  • @cool1Harrison go for a leopard gecko or a bearded dragon they are both very simple to care for and rewarding as pets

  • @cool1Harrison also, bearded dragon

  • @cool1Harrison no bearded dragons are the best for beginners

  • @cool1Harrison wich one did you choose?

  • @cool1Harrison Bearded dragon, Ball python, fat tailed gecko, water dragon

  • TEEEEEGUUUUU!

  • that is one beautiful animal

  • what happend to this tegu??

cos i dnt see him in ur newer vids

  • Rehomed him

  • lol is she eating ....... baby mice?

  • yup looks like it.... really tasty... they love them lol

  • thanx, I recently got one. I went into a local petstore and they had one thats alittle under half grown maybe. Someone just got bored of her and traded her in, so I took her in, shes really tame and I love her!!

  • how fast do they grow

  • extremely fast...well fed and correct lighting they'll grow to full size in 18 months without hibernation...

  • I'm thinking about getting a tegu. My biggest worry taming it. R they easily tamed?

  • Ya, if you hold it alot as a hatchling, it will be the loving, calm demeanered, and tame creature that you see.

  • When you pick it up dont pick it up from in front of it. Apart from that you should be fine really

  • heyy :D id just like to say ive watched a few of your videos and they have really helped me.. u seem to take very good care of your tegus!! just one question how much are they? thanks again !!

  • Aww what a little stunner :)

  • How big to they get?

  • On average:

    Males: 4 - 4.5 ft

    Females: 3.5 - 4 ft

  • is that pluse tail.

  • what was he eating? very nice lizard

  • ANd from what my vet said, its not that great to feed them eggs on a regular basis, unless you raise your own chickens, and have fresh eggs, which I do.

  • Eggs are great and they love them. It's advised to soft boil them first to rid of any bacteria.

  • Oh yeah, my boy loved some nice runny egg yolks, but hated fruit and veg. Dripping a bunch of egg yolk on a salad worked out well for feeding.

Or just crushing up veg, scrambling it in with an egg, and microwaving that a little bit. My Goldie would tear ass across his enclosure to get at that shit.

  • that is also true. If you look at my initial comment I said "every now and then" as in maybe once a week or so. :)

I remember mine just loving to swim like crazy after I would fill my tub with a few inches of lukewarm water. haha

  • I put a 20 gal fishtank in mine's enclosure, and kept the heater at 85 degrees, with an air pump. It was his little hot tub. He'd spend hours in that thing.; (Fucking sucked cleaning it out once a week.

It was like his sensory deprivation tank. He spent more time in that then under his heat lamp, or digging in his dirtbox.

  • Thats a great idea with the fish tank. I lived in a 1BR apt when I had mine, otherwise I would've have something roomier like you did. I swear, you guys are making me want to get back into tegus again after over a decade.

  • Yeah, I have my own house, and I'm a contractor, so I just build shit anyway. His was about 6 feet long, 2 wide, and about 3.5 tall. Big Tank.

Unfortunately he liked to go exploring, and somehow got out of his tank in the middle of winter. I've never really cried for a pet before.

But I love tegus so much, that I'm seriously thinking of getting a Red.

  • One suggestion...give this little guy a raw egg to lap up every now and then. They love it, and it will put size on him as well. I did that with mine before I had to get rid of her

  • im not familiar with eggs but i think egg yolk has quite lot of fat? so rather take it off and gice boiled egg white

  • Well, think about it this way- What do tegus eat in the wild??? From what I have read, they have a tendency to live along river banks, which makes anything from small fish to insects to birds eggs available to them. I have had breeders tell me that raw eggs are perfect for them. Your tegu, your choice though.

  • yeah true but my point was just they can get fast obese if they eat food wich has lots of fat... of course if they have chance to move mush as possible it's diffrent thing

  • I find that if you're feeding them eggs, the best policy is to crush up the shells into a fine powder, and toss some salad greens in for a scramble, then microwave it until it's mostly solid, but a little slimy. They like slimy eggs, so you're right about the raw egg from that POV.

It also depends on the kind of Tegu. A gold will eat a lot of eggs and be fine, because they're mostly carnivore, as opposed to B&Ws, who are mostly veg.

He would also mow a nice hard boiled egg.

  • I used to have a Goldie. But he escaped from his enclosure during the winter. I never cried when any of my other animals died.

His name (Ty) was printed on his forehead in his markings. He loved taking showers.

  • I cant see his colors very well. Is he Argentine, or Gold?

  • Tupinambis merianae

  • Oh, must just be yellowish lighting...

  • Nah, she had some yellow on her actually. Kind of wish I didn't trade her. I'm curious to know if the yellow has stayed with her while she grew. Most likely it faded out but the person I gave her to hasn't contacted me since.

  • Oh, she might have had some kind of Gold cross goin on if she was actually a bit yellowish. Black and Whites are supposed to be a bit green if anything.

  • 2:00 - 2:24 Looking for beer?

  • hey i got a question for ya [that made the video] how are they for a pet and how easy are they to take care of

    Thanx-Caleb

  • the satisfaction I get from owning tegus is by far the best from any other reptile I have kept. As a pet they are not for beginners. Care and husbandry can be difficult if you don't know what you're doing. I have seen so many come back with MBD it's sad.

  • what a beautiful crature.. 5/5

  • how did you tame yours i'm having a had time with mine

  • Patience, slow moments and feeding outside of the enclosure. Also I have them where they can see me for most of the day. This way they get use to me being around them.

  • I got mine at amazonreptiles. 75$.

  • how much is shipping for that place

  • Yeah, but I can almost guarantee yours are imported and not captive born. Have you checked yours for internal parasites? I would suggest a fecal float.

I'd rather have a nicer quality tegu that is bred for size, color and temperament over an import any day.

  • You live in Covina?

    -Santi (THR)

  • Yes why?

  • That's awesome, I live in Los Aangeles and sometimes i got to Amazon Reptiles when I go to my couzins house.

    -Santi (THR)

  • Yeah, thanks. Have you been to the one in Montclair? It's way better

  • No, I want to though.

    -Santi (THR)

  • I love these! How easy is it to get one, I'm so getting one!

  • I'd totally buy an argentine black and white tegu but the only thing I don't like about them is the hibernation. Do they need to hibernate? It's been a long semi-answered question for me.

  • No, they do not have to. It's thought that in order to get them to breed that they do. However, there are no known ill effects of not hibernating them other than the fact you will have a 4 ft lizard in a years span!

  • i live in ohio where can i get a golden tegu?

  • Check your local reptile store. Golden tegu's (tupinambis Teguixin) are imported on a large scale to the US. They are known to more way more aggressive, flighty, and carriers of parasites. Leaving them less desirable to keepers and bought for $30-60 dollars tops. Mine are Argentine Black and Whites (Tupinambis merianae) a much better species overall IMO and cost a lot more.

  • Actually Argentine Black and white tegu's are not that expensive. My tegu was 75$.

    "not including suppiles"

  • where / when did you get your tegu? I got mine 3 days ago at amazon reptiles for $75.

  • Yeah, but I can almost guarantee yours are imported and not captive born. Have you checked yours for internal parasites? I would suggest a fecal float.

  • I'm getting one that size on tuesday! I'm sooooo excited!!!! they're so adorable and sweet!!

  • Where can i buy one do you have to have like wild anmals permit or somthin i like in kenutcky so any where i can get one

  • I live in Kentucky too, and I know that Savannah Monitors are legal here, so I'm sure that Tegus are, as well. :]

  • since YouTube doesn't let you post URLs just google Varnyard Herps. That is where I got my new ones. Bobby is the best in the biz when it comes to tegus.

  • hes awesome, im getting one in august. but pinkys tend to have less nutrience and if he can i would go with fuzzies.

  • i didn't see anything grow...

  • You must have missed it. Shame.

  • he is cute! he is a baby tegu

  • He is just beautiful. His appetite reminds me of my Jasper!

  • How long have you had your tegu?

  • I had gotten him in mid November of 07. I just rehomed him though because I am getting a 1.1 pair of "Extreme Giant" T. merianae from Bobby Hill. These are the biggest of the tegus and I will not have room for 3!!!

  • Cool. I got a baby Red I can't wit till he gets some beastly jowels.

  • good job

  • wow nice looking tegu looks very healthy and active
