  • yay

  • How do you know when it's done?

  • Comment removed

  • @Pets4Pets1 You can check it regularly. You want the center to be hard. It's not a problem if it's a bit "jiggly" as she put it, 'cause you have to refrigerate it anyway.

  • @glitterheart18 Nope. Pumpkin puree is straight canned pumpkin. Pumpkin pie filling has spices and other ingredients added to it.

  • @Fufudesu isn't that why she put the pumpkin pie spice in?

  • looks yummmy!!!!!!!

  • looks delicious!!!

  • @glitterheart18 I don't think so. I'm pretty sure pumpkin filling has like spices and stuff in it, whereas pumpkin puree is just straight pumpkin.

  • Oh yeah I almost forgot. If your ever going to do my idea for the top you place it in a tray seperately and then you add it to the pie.

Btw I used this as a welcome home pie to give to my sister because she just came home from college. :P

  • Hi everyone. I made the pie like she did in her video. I just had an idea I wanted to share with everyone. I don't know if you guys will like my idea but for the pie, I did the top like a pyramid form using the instructions for the crust and I also covered the top with whipped cream. I just wanted to share that with everyone. :)

  • My gosh. What do you expect her to do? Go cut wheat and grind it to make powdery flour? Or go milk a cow? Churn butter and and make it???

  • I made this pie and everybody loves it!!!! thanks laura!! =]

  • You cannot beat the oil recipe for pie crust. You roll it out between two sheets of wax paper. Once you do that, you will never make it any other way. It's a very flaky crust with an excellent flavor.

  • I've done the "make your own pumpkin puree". Did not like it as well as the Libby's can of pumpkin puree.

  • @wahopin I have to agree with you on that; I like the tinned pumpkin much better.

  • The best recipe ever is on the side of the Libby's can of pumpkin. I use my own recipe of oil pie crust. You can't beat that with anything. Period.

  • i boiled my pumkins from halloween and peeled them then blended them can i still use them istead of the puree is it the same or is there stuff added to the puree that i need to add to the reciepe

  • I did this today and it came out perfect. Thank you so much!

  • Unfortunately your pie isn't from scratch, your pie crust is. I suggest you change the title " Pie crust from scratch pumpkin pie" it would be more honest.

  • @explorian76 Actually, if you followed the video, Laura explains why she's using tinned pumpkin; also, at that very moment, she provides a link to her video showing how to prepare pumpkin puree. In essence, she was prepared for comments such as yours.

  • Laura thank you for the video i made a pie today and it turned out great can ur next video be about making zebra striped fundant cake please??????

  • your site isnt working

  • Your so cute.. must be from NY or Jersey... Anyways- pumpkin from a can has a lot of plastic in it.. BPA or something.. and it is a hormoe disrupter.. so if you or anyone is trying ot make a baby and is having trboule have them eliminate them plastics and especially canned good which are heated in the plastics in which they are contained.

  • Good video but its really easy to make the Betty Crocker recipe. It does use a can of pumpkin. Libby's is the best it seems.

  • Can you buy and use ready-made pie crust?

  • DAMN FOR ONE PIE TAKES LIKE 7 HOURS?

  • waist of time...video was removed !

  • @dbarroga wanna spell waste right?

  • you r a Q T. marry me?

  • I didnt understand how much of sugar and what kind:p can u tell me please

  • Hello i really like ur recipe but i have a really important question.well i had seen more videos about the pie crust and they only use butter is it ok to only use butter?PLEASE ANSWER !

  • I'm sorry I had to watch it again cause I zoned out as soon as they showed her face. Make me pie Lauren :) lol

  • Will it be the same thing if I use a home bought pic crust?? Time wise in the oven??

  • I made my pumpkin pie spice tonight =) and my dough but i added 6tbsps of water and i think it'll be a little soggy = ( Also i dont ave a food processor so i could still see a few lumps in it. Its setting in the fridge over night till i made me filling tomorrow .... It should be fine right =) ? Also anyone have any suggestions to roll a dough without a rollng pin?

  • @dannyzukoify SHUT UPP

  • she said the PIE CRUST was from scratch now the actual pie. geez people.

  • To everyone saying it's not made from scratch, she probably used the can of puree to save on time. If you want to know how to make pumpkin puree, she has a video on how to do that.

  • Can I use all butter and no shortening? We like to avoid hydrogenated oils as much as possiblein out house.

  • @dannyzukoify she's not using pumpkin pie filling its pumpkin puree...

so if she doesn't go milk a cow and then churn her own butter or mill her own flour that means nothing she can possibly make can be considered made from scratch...

does she have to go to the fucking ocean and collect her own salt or go pick sugar cane from the fields?? i don't understand what the difference is. unless you do all that then obviously nothing can possibly be made from "scratch"

  • SHE JUST MADE A VIDEO ON HOW TO MAKE PUMPKIN PURE SO ARE YOU HAPPY? SHUT UP NOW

  • She's SO nice... Haha

  • whats vegetable shortening? do i need it?

  • @xosunshinebeauty i made few pies and i didnt use shortening i just use butter

  • how about apple pie pockets?

  • If you notice, she doesn't try this one. Because she doesn't like pumpkin pie. lol

  • good vid but i grew pumkins and wanna know hot to from scratch i think u need a redo vid and tak the time to roast and wat eva the pumkin so we knoe too by the way it did look yummy and i also would lie to know wat is pumkin pie spice as i dont think it will be called that here in australia always remember these vids are international:)

  • @keenasmustard2010 one of the annotations lead to another video on how to make the pumpkin puree. It's at the bottom right corner at 4:14 =) As for pumpkin pie spice, you can simply use spices like nutmeg, cinnamon, and cloves.

  • I made this last night and it was a hit!! Thanks for the reciepe keep em' coming :)

  • Laura a little tip I learned when making pie, after you roll the pastry and you're about to put it in the pie plate, use a pastry brush and brush off extra flour that you used when rolling it out. Believe me it really makes a difference

  • does squash works

  • if ur going to be like omg its not from scratch then get out of here shut up no one cares this is her video and shes taking time out of her life to make it so theres an exit button use it :D

  • @bubamara05 it says from scratch IN THE NAME if its not from scratch she should rename her video.. because you look like a dumb ass. good video just miss leading

  • @666jtorre depends what you consider from scratch know doesn't it? as some point something is going to be from the store idiot, unless you want her to churn the butter and sift the flour too for you?

  • @666jtorre cool story bruh tell it again.....not

  • "This isn't from scratch! She didn't milk a cow and turn the milk into butter or grind up the flour! I feel cheated!"

  • and i wouldnt say "everything" is from scratch laura

  • yea how about showing how to make it with a pumpkin lady.

  • I have not tried the recipe, it might be good for all I know, but it's NOT made from scratch.

Irritating to be fooled like this, when you look for a recipe.

  • I don't know why it's a bad thing that she's using pre-made puree; it's cheaper and less work. It doesn't make it any less "from scratch" just because one ingredient is pre-made.

Trust me; pre-made puree makes no difference. It's just less work.

  • @pizzapie1212 It's kind of like when she uses milk.

Just because she says it is from scratch doesnt mean she has to go milk a cow?

  • I'm so going to try this today :) Pumkin pie is the best ! :D lol

  • what happen to everything home made

  • Yeah i wanted to see how to make it from using an actual pumpkin, not store bought puree

  • I have food processor that would work? Thanks. love the recipe.

  • Thanx for the video!.I never eat that pie because I'm Italian and I've never been in usa! So I'll try it at home! :)

  • I would also put a 1/2 cup of maple syrup if you want a twist to the pie.

  • great tutorial

  • Deffinatly missleading -_- was wondering why this video was only 8 mins long aha

  • Thank you, Laura. That was nice.

  • Were making this for my culinary class. :) but the recipe for the pie crust was different. we used pastry flour, veg. shortening, sugar, cold water, etc. :D i cant till we do/eat our final product!

  • hi Laura um i was wondering what can i use insted of shortning cuss i cant find it any were i been to like 4 stores and am about to give up but my 7 yr old son realy wants me to make home made pumpkin pie. thanx alot .. by the way ur food and videos are amazing :)

  • i love your videos but you just talk wayy too much =o

  • can you use a ketchin aid mixer...instead of what your useing? thanx

  • Laura can i use a blender instead of your " bestfriend" because i dont have one?????

  • This isn't from scratch. Yet, I agree with you! It takes almost a half to a full day to make a pumpkin pie from scratch (baking the actual pumpkin and arranging cheesecloths correctly).

  • Good she knows her job is to be in the kitchen .

  • What is the best substitute for butter cause i dont have any and for some reason i cant find them in stores???!!!!!?????

  • @loveme123988 you cant find butter?

  • Laura explains everything clearly in her videos. People who post comments asking stupid things are just that - stupid. Does she have to repeat things already said in the video? Yeesh.

  • Yay! I can surprise my family with this pumpkin pie!!! Thanks!!! :)

  • Thanks for this recipe, now I can finally learn how to make a Pumpkin Pie! :D

  • can u substutie with cream cheese

  • OH NO! Not pumpkin puree! Was hoping to see HOMEMADE, total from scratch. Never made one, tasted one and it tasted better than canned.

  • Ok, I clicked on the video because it said "pumpkin pie from scratch" only to find out it was canned pumpkin puree. You put a great deal of effort into your videos and you seem like a great cook but please don't mislabel... off to find a real "from scratch" recipe now.

  • How many cups is a 15oz can of puree? Pumpkin puree is pretty much impossiable to find here in Norway, so I have to steam and puree the pumpkin myself. I've tried a few recipies before, and they basically sucked. Would love to try this recipe!

  • The reason why I wanted to watch this was to learn about the most important part, the pumpkin pie filling. But its not even from scratch. =(

  • @gr8hazels The only thing that's not "from scratch" is the pumpkin puree.....so.....what's the problem?

  • @XxEnosentxX

Just a mislabeled title. Thats all. ("From Scratch"=From the beginning; starting with no advantage or prior preparation; starting from raw ingredients.)

You see the puree is a prior preparation.

  • btw from scratch means not using a box of the ingredients already made for you so u just need to mix it or just put it on the pan and bake it so technically this video is still "from scratch"

  • I really love how she presents it.

She keeps doing a better job ...

Hope that I can have a home with an oven soon.

I want to follow her recipe real bad >w<

  • what`s the difference between evaporated milk, and regular milk?

  • @myaninag Evaporated milk is regular milk with aprox 60% of the water removed. Which means you can use 1 part evaporated milk + 1 part water and have regular milk for a recipe. [which is why I normally have 3-4 cans in the pantry just incase! (: ] Evaporated milk usually a little sweeter than regular/fresh milk because the natural sugars in the milk are "intensified" because of the aprox 60% removal of water.

  • thank you so much i have been wanting to learn how to make this.

  • i love it

  • It's not scratch if you use cannned pumpkin.

  • Delicious 

  • this is a great video! thanks!

  • what about creme Brulee

  • OMG. i HAVE THOSE PIE DISHES IN ALL SIZES! whooo laura! <3

  • 7:48 

  • YOU'RE AWESOME LAURA! :) KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!

  • i love this video can all ur videos u inspire me :)

  • Hi,

I do step by step as u. And I can't believe that is my first perfect pie crust, thanks very much, we enjoy the pie and I don't think to many people use fresh pumpkin, because my pie taste very good as others pumpkin pie. Thanks.

  • Ive always been told to bake the crust for a little bit before putting in the filling.....

  • Too many idiots. If using canned pumpkin puree is already counted as not from scratch, why not you ask her to make her own butter, clean her own water, flour, sugar, and everything else? -.-

  • it wasn't from scratch you used canned pumpkin purree

  • @markmariduena No offense, but I have to agree. canned pumpkin puree is very orange and most likely has some food coloring in it. The pie pumpkins I baked, the meat was way more yellow in color. I'm in the process of making my own,

  • so i just looked up how to make pumpkin puree its seriously not hard

  • @SuperMusicFlower: It's not hard.. but it takes a lot of time, a lot of time that could be used to do something else like video editing or something..

  • if you're using pumpkin pure from can its not from scratch so why is the title homemade pumpkin pie?

  • @mybraceletsifyi . its pumpkin puree not pumpkin pie filling.... its still homemade.... its simply pumpkin thats already ripened without any added spice or whatnot. using canned pumpkin is better because its riper and sweeter than store bought whole pumpkin. do you want her to churn her own butter for you too? if its not from a box its still homemade!

  • @Bananabear20 was i asking you no i wasnt and i know more about baking then you guys do good bye and this was over a week ago

  • you look pregnant... true or not?

  • You're adorable! Thanks for the pie recipe. It was exactly what i was looking for! :)

  • Laura how come you dont show your requesters photo anymore and where they come from on the map? That was a lot of fun. I was always hoping to be up there bc i request a lot xp

  • This recipe seems to be great! But I always roast a pumpkin 'cause in Portugal there is no Puree Pumpkin Cans :P Also in Portugal there is no such thing as shortening :( can you advise me with a substitute?

  • I only have one suggestion. When you tell your viewers to either make sure you do something a certain way or to make sure you don't do something a certain way that you actually explain the reasoning behind it. So why should we use cold ingredients for the crust. What happens if we use warm ingredients. Just little things like that. It sticks with the viewer and it really makes them more confident in you, because it makes them feel like you know what you're doing. :) Great job btw

  • @LauraVitalesKitchen ....Dear laura , can you do a Quiche recipe please... my mum really love Quiche and her birthday is coming soon..i wanna bake her the prefect homemade quiche , can u help me ,,, please...

  • Everyone saying it's not homemade has no idea what they are talking about. When you make homemade cookies, you use flour from a bag. It's still homemade. If you don't use a mix or buy the finished product from the store, it's homemade.

  • you should make lemon meringue pie :)

  • do you have a recipe for pecan pie?

  • how much pumkin should i use? if im roasting the pumkin?

  • Great crust recipe. I watched this AFTER making my own crust. Failure. But it was a good try. Now I know what to do better next time!

  • Her wedding ring caught my eye more than the pie did! what a beaut!!

  • I wish she's my wife nd I'm a girl hehe lol

  • can you do a video showing house how to make banana pudding?

  • @seyahhsod might I add. Do u want her to milk a Cow for u since the milk did come from a can?

  • @seyahhsod ur so stupid! Did u not hear her say u can roast the pumpkin and pure it??? There ya go! Home made doe doe!

  • HEY, this aint from SCRATCH!!!!! She used a CAN of pumkin!!!!

(now ask me if I care....lol)

  • Made me sooo mad when u didnt cut in it lol

  • i wish u were my mom

  • what is vegetable shortening?

  • for the pie crust, what can i use to substitute the vegetable shortning??? pleae help? :)

  • Do you have to use shortening? i'd rather not use it. Please answer back

    ~G.G~

  • i loved this u should be on a food network. i think the pumpkin puree is great. most people dont want to roast a pumpkin so its a great alternative. luv it!!!

  • I know that most pumpkin pies dont have the whole weave thing on top but if i wanted to do that when would be the best time??

  • laura is the BEST

  • Hi Laura

What is the difference by not putting pumpkin spies into the paste? Can I dont put the spies instead? Will my pumpkin pie taste ruined?

  • I love your show but Im a wee bit disappointed that it was'nt fresh pumpkin {:-<

  • Hey Laura!! I'm in middle school and love baking. When I do my homework I put your videos on in the backround half listening to them so if a recipe sounds interesting, I can write down the title, and come back to it for future refrence. I love your videos andwhen I'm not half listening to htem while doing my homework, I do actually watch them lol :} Your such an inspiration!! Thanks for making videos! <3

  • Ur really good:) keep it up <3 btw, how old r u? :)

  • Ha! I absolutely love your positive upbeat attitude! Great recipe!

  • don't worry about people trying to criticize or nitpick about the tutorial. They wouldn't be watching this if they knew how to make one. Most of the people who leave ugly comments don't know much of what they are speaking and have no videos themselves. The video was great by the way, I am making my first pumpkin pie bc my husband loves it. Following the instructions will help to ensure I don't mess it up. I'll let you know how it goes!

  • @northofhome28 how is saying that its not from scratch if its from a can nit picking? get off your high horse. people are watching the video to learn how to do it FROM scratch not from a CAN (ever occur to you some people dont have cans of pumpkin puree in their supermarket?)

  • @Lots0fLollies then that is your problem, no need to criticize her for your supermarket not carrying it. Canned pure pumpkin puree is essentially the same thing as if you made it yourself. It isn't pumpkin pie filling. She said it in the comments how to make it from real pumpkins (roast them, remove the filling). And you can also use the internet if you really find out. And in NJ (where Laura is from, and where I live) it's not always convenient to look for real pumpikns

  • @Lots0fLollies it is nitpicking and annoying ... do you want her to milk a cow for you and churn the butter for you too? if you want to find a pumpkin, roast it, by all means... canned pumpkin is just that ....no spices or anything ... it just like using a canned tomatoes... they are used because they are riper and sweeter.

  • Hi! I have a question for you, Can we put some pie icing on top of the pie? Also, Can we sprinkle a little burnt sugar on top? Please comment back! Thank you Laura! <3

  • wow i have the same oven, microwave, and sink wow

  • I understand it's a lot of work but that was the point of me selecting your video to watch when you titled it as "How to Make Homemade Pumpkin Pie from Scratch"

  • @sweetdimples83 There is no pumpkin pie filling in my ingredients. That's pure Pumpkin Puree, as I mentioned in the show. There's a huge difference. If you want to roast a pumpkin instead of using canned pumpkin puree, feel free! But I'll warn you, it's a lot more work!!

  • @LauraVitalesKitchen

It is no different than using canned tomatoes in sauce, etc. I HAVE made pumpkin pie from an actual pumpkin and I can tell you: you get a BETTER product using canned pumpkin. Grocery store pumpkins are shipped underripe so they are hard- because most people use them for carving, not cooking. The canned pumpkin is packed ripe and sweet. Use canned pumpkin! Just make sure (like Laura said) it is pure pumpkin, not pie filling. :)

  • @LauraVitalesKitchen tbh it's just cutting up the pumpkin, removing strings and seeds putting it in the oven with foil and some water in the bottom of a pan...

  • @LauraVitalesKitchen Well usually when you put from scratch it means, FROM SCRATCH. And that was what I was looking for b/c I had pumpkin I made from scratch so your heading was misleading. I didn't say your video was bad or horrible.

  • @sweetdimples83 Um. Are you stupid? You contradict yourself. "I had pumpkin I made from scratch". Now, did you make this pumpkin FROM scratch? Did you plant it and grow it straight from the seed of it's parent? You were looking for a video for pumpkin pie from scratch and you get antsy because the pumpkin puree is not from scratch? Why don't you look up how to make pumpkin puree? Then use it in the recipe.

  • @sweetdimples83 true

  • @sweetdimples83 Whats's up with people not being able to handle criticism? A pumpkin pie from can is not from scratch. It you're gonna skip the pumpkin step, why don't you skip the pie step and get it at the grocery store? It's a lot easier!

  • @sweetdimples83 UR MEAN SHE TRY SOOO MUCH TO MAKE RECIPES FOR US OK AND IF I WERE U STOP IT AND WATCH IT OK I DONT SEE U DOING THINGS FROMS SCRATCH OK

  • LARUA UR THE BEST DONT EVER LISTEN TO ANY JUST KEEP ON DOING WHAT U WANT MOST PPL DONT EVEN NOW HOW TO MAKE STUFF UR MAKING THAT WHY THEY ARE MEAN

  • Using ready made filling is not exactly from scratch, is it? ;-) Do you have a recipe for that?

  • @Scenic4me There is no pumpkin pie filling in my ingredients. That's pure Pumpkin Puree, as I mentioned in the show. There's a huge difference. If you want to roast a pumpkin instead of using canned pumpkin puree, feel free! But I'll warn you, it's a lot more work!!

  • @LauraVitalesKitchen Hey I only saw now...this time of the year again...that you had actually commented. And my question was sincere. I do LOVE pumpkin pie but in Europe (living in Belgium and Germany) just can not get a hold of canned puree. Question for receipe of puree was sincere ... ahhh language and misunderstandings... Love your channel and got already soooooooo many great ideas!

  • @Scenic4me I only watched this video to see how to prepare the pumpkin. It upset me very much to see the canned pumpkin.

  • @eyakime Most people don't like to take the time/don't have the time to prepare the pumpkin puree so ALOT of cooks/bakers post recipies using pumpkin puree. Just search on here for Pumpkin Puree, and I'm sure you'll find alot of videos on how to make it. :) It's not really that hard, just takes a bit of time is all.

  • thanks for this video, I needed it for thanksgiving and now I can make homemade crust :D

  • what is the machien you used to mi the crust ingredients called?

is there another way to do that if you don't have the machine??

  • You should get your own show girl your Great
