  • my mac used to get up to 199 but now it goes up to just 150 but even i just hate the loud fans that go off!!! i have a late 2011 model. Latest i think 13 inch i5 8gb of ram macbook pro

  • Mine does the same but i just keep the graphics on medium, use a cooling mat, and after ever few games let let it just rest a bit (at the quick match screen, it only heats up in game for me). BTW mine is the entry level macbook pro too with no dedicated GPU.

  • yes it does get hot. but just buy a cooler mat. remember mac book air was not made for gaming. its for school/work

  • @man0204

I hear the MBA gets hot while doing normal tasks such as watching Youtube-Flash videos, video editing, etc...

    Is that true?

  • @0xNEVVG3N thats not true! i evan work with photoshop on it it does not get hot. i watch a lot of movies and it does not get hot. It only gets hot when you lay a game. and now after a while of having a MBA i find it very good for gaming it a decent "hot" it doesn't bother me.

MBA is a good unit , i am very pleased with it (-: battery last 7h and 10 h when i turn wifi off so i can read and write at school.

  • A MAC IS NOT FOR GAMING

  • get a cooling mat, nuff said. A decent one for like $40 will probably bring the temp down at least 10 degrees

  • @KeKeKeilan Its the fact that the GPU & CPU are now in the 1 chip - causes the heat to go up and fans to kick in crazy style!!!

  • @realskatsa I know, but the cooling mat would help. The fans only kick up that much if you're like rendering movies or pictures , gaming, or watching an HD movie on full brightness, and really you shouldn't do anything but the last one on a laptop anyway =P an SSD would also help bring down the heat

  • same problem with me..they fixed it they said that there was a faulty fan. I was lucky cuz I got the last one they had in stock at that location. fixed it within 10 minutes. NO LOUD NOISE ANYMORE! :) love u apple

  • @killer333134 what did you tell the Genius bar to do?

  • My new Core i7 13" Macbook Air also often has fan noise issues, all I gotta do is start up Parallels. Sometimes it kicks in even when browsing and having a bit of Flash in web pages. There are many discussions on the web about this and many point out to Lion and Core i7 CPU with onboard graphics chip as main causes. Many people who upgraded their older models to Lion started to experience this issue, so perhaps a patch from Apple could fix it in the future. Too bad, I love it otherwise.

  • 13" MBP does not have a dedicated GPU, thus causing the temperature to rise dramatically. On top of this, The Macbook is a fairly cramped computer and has HORRIBLE airflow. To keep it from reaching a critical temperature (105-110º C) The fans will pick up to about 5000+ RPM. It is all perfectly fine, but annoying. I would suggest getting a cooling pad and wearing headphones, That's what I do and i hardly notice the fans whenever I use mine.

  • @TehCheat3 If the heatsink was not undersized none of that would even matter.

  • this happens even with starcraft 1 on mine

  • ok,this is a deal breaker for me. too bad

  • starcraft 2 wont load on my computer it is a macbook pro 13". it says i have not enough memory...I GOT IT YESTERDAY AND I ONLY GOT WORD. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    (downloading from internet not disc)

  • Use headset + Cooling Plate = problem fixed.

  • My 13" 2011 Macbook Por does the same thing, even when im just watching flash videos

  • My MacBook Pro (2011 13") does the exact same thing! =/

  • @thomasboss01

It's bad engineering from Apple. I have two laptop PCs (1ASUS & 1Gateway) and none of them get hot even when playing high demanding games such as GTA4. I was going to buy the 2011 MBA but after seeing the issues with the fan and extreme heat while watching YT videos I think I'll stick with PCs for now, maybe Apple with get their shit together and start designing laptops with better air flow/cooling systems because this is unacceptable especially considering how overpriced they are

  • @0xNEVVG3N

It's actually okay if you don't run too many programs, but if something is even slighty heavy it will start again...(Google Earth )

  • And sorry that I don't own any mac OS but search for the variables.txt file or however *.txt would be named on a mac OS and add the lines, it's a shame they released the final version without any fix to this.

Hope this helps man, because if you keep playing like that you're sooner or later going to fry something in your Computer/Notebook.

  • Oh btw, it also worked in the final version for me.

  • Continued: this is how I fixed my SC2 heat problems:

The Workaround is to go to your Documents\StarCraft II Beta\variables.txt file and add these lines:

    frameratecapglue=30

    frameratecap=60

Those lines don't exist in the file, so just add them and look if it helps you as much as it helped me.

  • SC2 produced too much heat since the Beta version. Blizzard said they would fix it but they didn't. You have to force the game to go to like max 60FPS or it will overheat badly on powerfull graphics cards.

I had this problem with my crossfire system. After I set max FPS to 60 the heat problem drastically went down. Without forcing the max 60FPS my system could easily go over 200FPS but this caused unnatural heat problems (desktop PC I might add). Search for beta FPS fix and apply those 2 lines.

  • It's normal, man. I do maxed out flight sim all the time, and it gets up to 180 degrees F. it's fine. It's just because it has a freaking awesome core i5 in it, and it gets a little hot!

  • I have a macbook pro 15 inch 2.2ghz 2007 version, and my mac gets insanely hot while gaming, so i got smc fancontrol its free, and i can control my fan speeds to prevent damage to my hardware.

  • @AttackTheMic But by lowering fan speed - wont your MBP overheat?

  • @realskatsa It very well could if you run it too hot for too long, i suggest getting that program and turning your fans up.

  • @realskatsa he means to raise the rpm of the fan not to lower it

  • @realskatsa u wouldn't lower it to play a game, i've got mine set to run @ 4000k rpm when gaming and then down to 2800-3k when not

  • mine is 70 degree C. playing in average quality.

  • It's supposed to be like that. The 2011 Macbook pros dont have a dedicated GPU.

    GG.

  • its normal, just keep on low settings, the 13" doesn't have a dedicated gpu

  • @teklinkme Everything is on LOW in Starcraft 2 options - Temp goes straight to 93 degrees C and fans go nuts. This aint right!!

  • @realskatsa Why don't you visit your closest Apple store or contact Apple via phone or web? They will most definitely be able to help you out/get you a new one.

  • @realskatsa yeah it has a really bad GPU, not designed for any sort of gaming

  • @OakridgeProductions9 No laptop period is really designed for gaming.

  • Has anyone tried taking it to the Genius bar at Apple? What did they say?

  • ming is the 15 inch but ming gets too 120 degrees.... very hot and then fans go crazy

  • @zjxlsyt I dont think the temps are TOO bad - yes they are high. But its the fans that are really annoying.

  • I think the temperatures arent TOO bad - its the fact the fans are going JET ENGINE styles..

  • yup happens to me too not very well designed

  • @Lman8786 Which model do you have? This is a 13" MBP.
