Might be a bit of a long shot, but I don't suppose anyone knows how to (deliberately) reduce the quality of streaming via xbox? Just that at the moment it's kinda killing my monthly download allowance (40GB per month, roughly 20 hours of streaming netflix)
Okay ... So i have an LG HD tv i have an Xbox 360 and i have The HdMi Cables and i have net flix i gotta a madcat wifi adapter whiich only takes my connection my router is f**ckng boss ! For hd and all i start netflix its not Hd ? Wtf ! Please is it that i have to change something or my connection i pay each mont 8 dollars or something close to dat and still quality decent but i want Hd please reply :/
@iRodrigoBored There are so many things this could be. Step 1 put your 360 on the DMZ for your router. If that doesn't fix it, then it's more complicated. You could try checking the ping and hops between netflix and your home. Also can you get netflix in HD on your computer? I've had problems getting HD on certain days or at certain times but usually it's good. So check your Internet connection first then it will get harder to pin down. Also try unplugging and replug the router. Might fix it.
@prot8to Nooooo it's all good ! If someone would of told that you could simply go to the Net Flix web site and you could change the settings over there i never would of had that problem !
For anyone else just go to NetFLix then go to account and help there should be a fix quality settings or something like that go click that and change your quality to High Quality ! Hope it helped someone else ! :D
hey dude when i watch a movie on netflex from xbox and i want to watch a hd movie and sound why does my amp not show all 5 speakers working would you know thank you
@2s1cari I believe the 360 didn't even give Netflix surround sound capability until very recently. Even then, not all videos have 5.1. It sucks. So unless you know you're watching a movie in 5.1, I really have no idea how to help either way.
I don't know bro but I really preferred the brightness and color of the Wii system over the Xbox. Not alot of quality difference either. Like I said I did not like the color on the Xbox netflix in your vid. Just preference I guess
@brianminkc It might also depend on your TV. On my set it's night and day. I have to turn the brightness way up on the Wii for it to look the same. The Wii does look incredibly blurry compared to the Xbox. Actually the Wii overall just looks blurry on a large HDTV.
@umKthxbye84 I suggest you look up facts before making assumptions. I ALWAYS look up facts, which is why people trust my opinion. The Wii is 480p which is not true HD, just progressive standard TV resolution. Also the price of Netflix is changing. The disc version is going way up in price and they now offer a streaming only version that seems overpriced.
Wii graphics specs: 480p (PAL/NTSC), 480i (PAL/NTSC) or 576i (PAL/SECAM), standard 4:3 and 16:9 anamorphic widescreen
@prot8to No NETFLXI on Wii has 480i quality it fucking sucks thats the quality i could wipe my ass with 480i equals to crappy ass standard Tv quality HD is far the best i dont like switching back to 480i -.- but i dont have XBOX yet to have HD on NETFLIX god damn Wii sucks
@cooldude8912 It does stream at 480p resolution, it looks terrible because it's streaming an incredibly low bandwidth. To put it simply... a video must be a minimum of 6000kbps to have the visual quality of HD and 25000kbps to be true HD or a true 1080i. 1080p or blu-ray must be 35000kbps and the videos I upload to youtube are 14000kbps. So given that, know that the Wii streams at 1500kbps which is lower quality than most Internet videos. That's why it looks bad.
Derp. It's pretty obvious, when someone says "wii" you think "slow" when they say "xbox" you say "medium/okay" & "Ps3" is "fast/best" INTERNET SPEEDS ONLY.
I have 6 netflix devices in my house. Panasonic BluRay. 3 Xbox 360's and the Wii. I agree that its a rip off on the xbox but it is the fastest device I have for netflix. Its also the best in terms of picture quality. The Downside is how loud the old style xbox's are. . I would not pay for live just to have netflix. Since im already a member Its a great bonus. Microsoft thinks this will boost gold memberships. I think its a bad move as it alienates itself from every other streaming device.
@spartacusblack I don't think Netflix goes above 720p on anything. It would take way too much bandwidth to do anything higher. It's impossible for me to tell. My TV claims it's a 1080p connection but I assume it's being upscaled to the Xbox set resolution. It all depends on what netflix actually broadcasts like how most cable TV is actually broadcast at 720p but you would never know because your receiver typically defaults to the highest resolution.
@prot8to Netflix does actually do 1080p with 5.1 surround sound on both the PS3 and PC. Of course, to get to that level of quality, you'll need a fast internet connection. XBOX 360 can run Netflix at up to 720p, and of course the Wii's Netflix goes up to 480p. And there you have it. My internet connection is fairly fast, and I can get it looking and sounding pretty nice on my PS3.
@spartacusblack Also, the resolution means almost squat. The bitrate is what really matters. Last I heard Netflix was increasing their bitrate and resolution but I haven't heard any true press on it. The rumors were only for the silverlight version of Netflix. I could say that I hope Netflix increases their quality but with every ISP out there starting limits and caps... it's not a good idea.
Netflix on the 360 is a fucking rip off! Why Microsoft? WHY? WHY DO YOU HAVE TO FORCE PEOPLE TO BECOME GOLD MEMBERS BEFORE THEY CAN USE NETFLIX, A SERVICE THEY ALREADY PAID FOR? NETFLIX ON 360 = EPIC FAILURE!
@deeppurple28 You do have to admit, Xbox is one of the only carriers of netflix that almost guarantees the service will work. I've had issues on the Wii with buffering, my TV has problems even getting netflix, and most other devices are known to have random problems. The Xbox works flawlessly. You're not just paying for Netflix anyway. I don't have a PS3 so I don't know its capability. Although, watching Netflix on PC is free and works the best out of everything... so there's always that.
You have to admit that Microsoft forcing you to first be a gold member to use Netflix is a RIP OFF! By the way Netflix on the PS3 works FLAWLESSLY! It works flawlessly on the PS3 because the PS3 has a Web Browser! I can use Netflix on my PS3 but I can't use it on the Xbox because I am not a Gold member, WHY? Its like charging you extra to use your own in internet service, I mean if I am already paying for the internet and Netflix, WHY would I have to pay MORE? Its a Bloody rip off I tell you!
@deeppurple28 Yeah I understand both sides. For us it does suck. For them it makes sense to bundle everything under a premium package. You can't use quite a few of the "free" services on the Xbox without paying. Like Twitter and Facebook. As useless as they are, I tried them once, they are 100% free basically everywhere but 360.
i recently started this netflix thing, but ive been watching videos on my xbox for a couple months now, and my quality looks not so good, i have my tv set at 720p at the moment, i have the componet cables that came with the elite, do i need another cable to have my videos in high def? Please help =)
I don't know about you all, but as of now, I like the quality of netflix on my girlfriends wii better than I do on my xbox 360. My connection is kind of slow, so when I am browsing netflix on pc, I have to let it buffer a bit. On the 360, I pause to let it buffer but it does not, it keeps saying connection slowed down. On the wii, it buffers only once and your set for the whole movie with crystal clear quality.. Of course the wii is on a regular tv. My 360 is on a 1080 P HD LCD.
My brother has problems with that strange white block digital mess popping up on his Wii while watching movies. I've never seen that on my Wii nor have I seen overly blocky pictures unless I'm really taxing my connection with my PC downloading.
I know you went to great lengths to keep this fair, but it still isn't. The colors of the Wii drastically being different is because of your TV. Run the 360 in true 480p and you would have a fair comparison.
@OldsXCool I understand but no one would ever run their 360 at 480p. Maybe it is just the fact it's at a different resolution but either way it just shows the limitations of the Wii compared to other methods of streaming Netflix. There are a lot of factors contributing to the Wii not looking as good and I doubt the resolution is part of it. I will test that to be sure though.
@prot8to Don't misunderstand me. It's not directly the resolution. Every TV has different internal settings that can only be set in service mode for each resolution a TV accepts for every aspect of the picture including color saturation, tint, etc. I found this out when I saw a drastic color difference between all the resolutions on my TV. Netflix on my brother's 52 inch looks almost identical between his PS3 and Wii running in their normal resolutions. It would be interesting what you find.
@SirFakeName It's a Samsung DLP, one of the last high quality ones that were on the market 4 years ago before they were made cheap and failed. I would have to look up the model number if you want to know but it was originally very expensive. It was a failed model because it was too high end and too bulky but it's very color accurate and really nice quality. Luckily I grabbed it on a huge clearance because they couldn't sell them.
I have Netflix on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. PS3 has the highest video quality on HD contents then PC and Xbox 360. Xbox 360 doesn't have subtitles like on the other two. It takes longer to connect to a video on Xbox360. When your connection changes, it pauses your video and takes couple more seconds to adjust the video quality. PS3 and PC automatically adjust your video quality w/o corrupting your viewing experience.
@mehdilaptop Referring to the updates I mentioned? If you go to the download channel on the Wii under channels you will find netflix is available. Download that and you will no longer need the disc. It takes up very few blocks. The 360 version was updated to have search functions.
well obviously you do get better color quality when using hdmi on the 360, whereas the wii uses analogue component. umm, maybe if you use the WII2HDMI converter from Neoya you'll get a better picture quality from the wii.
Commendable handling of absolutely retarded Youtube comments. Good work on the review, also.
A marked difference I not between PS3 and Xbox 360 is that I can search for titles now on my PS3-- despite that disc shenanigans. The Wii has a similar layout; I don't know that it does but am also trying to point out the difference of layout/interaction. One (PS3) allows for more title details in a clearer way while the other allows for faster, fluid browsing. Interesting how they're different.
@Lazyt07 I'm not sure if this is a statement about the system, the software, or the quality of video. I assure you that in comparisons of many videos HD and SD the quality on Wii was a tiny fraction of what it is on 360. I do like the software better on Wii but everything about the quality is much better on 360.
Still nothing compares to quality streaming on PC though.
The nexflix CD is only used to start the netflix app. It isn't even needed, the app is so small; netflix messed up when they didn't make it downloadable from the Wii shop channel. However, the Xbox version is downloadable for a fee, while the Wii disk is free. Interesting...
@abel09011 Actually it's because Netflix uses a really low quality compression and a slow bitrate on the Wii. Heck even the 360's HD bitrate is lower than a standard DVD. I suspect this is all to keep loads down on Netflix's servers and nothing to do with Internet speeds or quality control.
@dadsleftnipple Fullscreen as in widescreen or as in takes up the full screen of your tv? Not every movie is widescreen 16:9. In fact I noticed that the movie Monsters Inc is 4:3 on all systems.
@spencerisgod1990 Neither of them have any streaming problems. I have noticed a lot of artifacts and pixelation on the Wii though. To be blunt I would say the Wii is at a lower quality than DVD. Ever seen an SVCD? That's what it reminds me of. The 360 is flawless though and HD looks great. Never had a problem.
oh here we go again with the comparison

The picture quality isn't the greatest but its still good considering its $8 a month to stream as many movies and TV shows as you can.

The nexflix CD is only used to start the netflix app. It isn't even needed, the app is so small; netflix messed up when they didn't make it downloadable from the Wii shop channel. However, the Xbox version is downloadable for a fee, while the Wii disk is free. Interesting...

shut up what so u spect from a lower powered console, jesus u thw wii cant hadle HD
abel09011 1 year ago
@abel09011 Actually it's because Netflix uses a really low quality compression and a slow bitrate on the Wii. Heck even the 360's HD bitrate is lower than a standard DVD. I suspect this is all to keep loads down on Netflix's servers and nothing to do with Internet speeds or quality control.

so does every movie have fullscreen?
also nice vid

@dadsleftnipple Fullscreen as in widescreen or as in takes up the full screen of your tv? Not every movie is widescreen 16:9. In fact I noticed that the movie Monsters Inc is 4:3 on all systems.

great video, but what streams better? couldnt watch start of video since it was loading ridiculously slow lol
spencerisgod1990 1 year ago
@spencerisgod1990 Neither of them have any streaming problems. I have noticed a lot of artifacts and pixelation on the Wii though. To be blunt I would say the Wii is at a lower quality than DVD. Ever seen an SVCD? That's what it reminds me of. The 360 is flawless though and HD looks great. Never had a problem.
