Well, it's only a prediction but I believe Marie's shoplifting habits will play some kind of crucial part in season 5. I don't know how, but there's no unnecessary story lines in the show.
I really didn't care for her character until Season 4. Then you really find out her reasoning behind why she does what she does. It was heart-breaking to see her care for her husband, try and talk to him only to have him rudely push her away. There are absolutely no throw-away characters on Breaking Bad. This show is a rarity, to say the least.

You were just being a rude twat for no valid reason whatsoever. Be nice, There's no reason NOT to be. We're all fans of the show having a nice talk.
I find myself cringing every time Walter makes that god-awful face - the mouth opens, the eyes roll back and he looks up an then over and down... mouth remaining agape. But with her, he's a neglectful, arrogant, selfish jerk that just happens to be an amazing agent. An abusive husband who is full of himself who can't control his wife. She's amazing as someone you pity. But she's also tragically unable to leave hank. Good TV.
They changed Walt's character to be 50 instead of 40 I guess. Funny how it seems like she didn't realize the line about being rich in 50-60 years was supposed to be snarky.
I always think, "There's no way those 2 ppl could be sisters...". They look completely different. But she was a good choice for the role, so I suppose that's why they chose her...What an awesome show BB is! Total props to casting these ppl together!

That's the point... at first. She was a terrible human being with no redeeming qualities as the show began.
She has changed.
This season, she is dealing with Hank's hatred of his situation and that he now has to rely on Marie. So now she has gone back to shop-lifting to feel something, so the reasoning is more sound than the boredom she experienced before.
Every character is nuanced and deep. Every character is very well thought out.
thing is, she knows she's playing an asshole character and loves it. If we all hate her fucking guts then she's doing it right.
