  • I have such a man crush on mayer

  • Mayer is playing a Hendrix Monterey replica. Hendrix was influenced by Buddy Guy. Buddy Guy is coming to play with the man influenced by Hendrix, and SRV & Double Trouble. It's a big beautiful cycle.

  • Thumbs up if you're the 100,001th view

  • gusto a 4:34 empiezan los comentarios

  • Does he use a pedal for this sound? When I listen while he is playing the song it doesn't sounds like an 'normal' stratocaster sound?

  • @jairzinho110 its like clean with some sort of effect maybe

  • How can you dislike this?

  • magic music!

  • Perfect choice of musicians.

  • "I survive on the breath you are finished with" is just an incredible line.

  • Watch my videos for John Mayer covers!! :)

  • Chris Layton and Tommy Shannon :O

That's the most amount of awesome on one stage since Stevie Ray Vaughn died.

  • i like his slick tab to fingeringpicking switch at 1:56

  • I would give my own soul just to jam with Double Trouble!!!

  • I stopped playing guitar for 7 months, when I heard this version of the song, I picked up my Strat and it felt like the first time again,John Mayer you are the best.

  • Mayer , Guy , Double Trouble ...... so much talent on that stage.

  • i can't find where the moment went wrong at all.

  • Where the hell is the austin city limits version of this song!

  • @ItsTooshe99 Exactly!! I'm trying to find it too!

  • Wow, Buddy Guy and John's solo gave me the chills. Brilliant stuff!

  • i wet myself a little every time he breaks out the hendrix tribute

  • I love this song so much. John Mayer is honestly the most amazing artist I've heard. His voice is amazing, his lyrics are amazing, his guitar playing is amazing and his live performances are especially amazing.

  • That must have been so special for him. He idolized Stevie Ray Vaughan and he got to play with Stevie's band. To top it all off why not throw a chicago blues legend out there. Mr. Buddy Guy! Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! I'm 12 years old and i'm already dreaming of playing blues with legends like double trouble and buddy guy.

  • This is one of his best performances.

    I love it :)

  • john mayer strat tone one of the best tones i've ever heard, mellower than srv and softer than clapton but with their musical influence....

  • buddy guy es full feeling,y buena el baterista

  • Love this song!! xoxo

  • it's all about buddy guy

  • the tone of john m is amazing

  • LONG LIVE THE STRATOCASTER !!!!!

  • It seems like that most likely because his mic is so compressed because he doesn't really sing in full voice. There's no doubt this was 100% live. Does look funny though.

  • i really like his music. but..he looks like he's not singing....f.ex. 0:37 "faa" "ce"

  • you're right, the ce of face comes when his mouth isn't even on the mic. strange, cause he's not one to lipsync, he's so against that.

  • it does look strange.. but he isn't lip syncing.. the words are different to the album.. for example "brush is on the sink" instead of "your tears on these sheets"

  • love the tone

  • imo... buddy's solo is when the couple actaully has crazy wild intercourse.

  • the way buddy guys cranked his solo with a overdrive that sounded kind i natural was awsome

  • What I love about this is John must be in heaven.

There he is, with one of his guitar idols he looked up to, Buddy Guy, and playing with Double Trouble, the band that played with Stevie Ray, John's other guitar idol.

  • Buddy Guy is the greatest :)

  • I didn't like the original version for a while. I did like the lyrics and the crisp production. Oh: and the fender solo. But this is way better. It adds just the right amount of dirt.

  • thats an amazing solo by Buddy, i like it a lot better than johns, for this song at least , it adds a whole different atmosphere to the song. GREAT! AMAZING! JOHN IS MY HERO lol

  • omg..i love it..love john and this song;)

  • I love John's music-but like probably every artist he has had some mediocre live performances that don't do justice to his talent. This gem of a video, however, is practically flawless. The way he sings "leave me" @ 2:34? Fuhgeddaboutit! Wonderful vid I'll return to many times. :D

  • Had no idea Buddy and Double Trouble played with John on this song. Nice to see the "legends" on stage with the new guys.

  • actually just for this show I think.

  • All of you old farts need to get over the fact that the only way SRV, Buddy Guy, and Albert Collins' music is still alive with "the kids" is because of John Mayer. Have some respect for the man because he is opening up a new generation to blues music.

  • thats fucking well said....

I know for a fact my friends only started appreciating my blues playing when they got JMs CDs.

  • Actually if you listen to the studio version of CBTB on Heavier Things, John's solo lick right at 3:41, it's a similar phrase as heard on the Gravity intro, just in the key of A rather than G. Basic blues stock phrase (respectfully).

  • I love seeing the past, present and future of blues all on the same stage. PERFECT performance. All should be commended. Buddy doesn't get the respect and credit he deserves.

  • buddy guy BACKUP? should never happen!

  • I Love this song so beautiful!:D

  • haha buddy guy not good...youve got to be kidding. hes a legend. go out and get yourself an ear.

  • agreed! ha lol!

  • You think Hendrix was good?? Hendrix once said that Buddy Guy was the best guitarist he'd ever seen.

  • He was probably on acid when he said that.

  • Yeah, seen but not heard!!!

    jkjk :O

  • was buddy guy trying to playing the last note but didnt get to?

  • no my friend...thats exactly what he wanted...trust me. Buddy is a bluesman and blues guitarist do things differently than pop or rock guys. just look at the look on johns face at about 3:40 when Buddy hits that note. Buddy Guy is a blues legend my friend..younger people are just finding out about him because hes playing with Mayer. Jimi Hendrix idolized Buddy Guy..thats how good Mr.Guy is..blues is about 'feel' and 'touch' not just flash. John 'felt' it...so..no it wasn't a mistake. peace 2u

  • ohhh.. i just saw the movement he did w/ the guitar neck at 4:40.... yea but i guess you're right

  • and.... that's exactly why i don't like those teens cause they don't know music!

  • Skillet and Real King....Looks like they did a nice little ad-lib there to me. Buddy blew John's mind a lil bit, I think.

    Nice footage! Thanks, Hutch!!!

  • i saw it that was crazt cool that song rocks

  • He takes my breath away everytime.

    <3

  • Those would be some kick ass gene's to have

  • i love him but he makes weird faces when he sings

but hes top notch so i dont even care how he looks when he makes musical madness

  • I totally love him, he is so good!

  • i wish eric clapton would be my father and john mayer my brother

  • i wish buddy guy was my grandpa

  • Hahaha, that comment made my day :) Thanks

  • That was an awesome comment... and so true... Double trouble can be the cool uncle.

  • SoulyJus, Buddy is sliding to the 11th fret (F#) on the G string and then playing the 10th (A) and 12th (B) on the B string. Try playing what you say it is along with the song and find out how off you are. You probably shouldn't make fun of people when you are wrong.

  • I guess if you're talking about what he plays at 1:31 then you're mistaken, but if you're talking about what Buddy plays at the end of the chorus when John plays the Gm9, then I should have held my breath. If that's the case, sorry.

  • awesome!!!love it

  • Barely I like your reasoning very good ears.

  • same notes, but not in the right order, so not the same as the intro.

  • it's not even the same key... therefor not the same notes =)

  • barely.

  • It sounds a lot like it but not identical

  • I think he looked better back then. But his music def. keeps improving with every album. He is TOO good. Love John Mayer!

  • I dunno I know Buddy Guy is a legend don't get me wrong but i think Johnny boy might have showed him up here a bit. It's an awesome performance either way

  • I love how each time John Mayer sings, you can feel the emotion he expresses. And the song just touches me even more. :) John RoxX! <3

  • I love how they got some of the max whinberg 7 as back up. Love Conan!!!

    JOHN MAYER RULES!!!

  • I really get that sunday mornig feeling everytime I listen to this song... it makes me happy!! ^_^

  • god, i love this song... i could listen to it over and over again. amazing !!

  • why diss john mayer? He's great.. he's one of the best guitar players I've seen.

  • hahaha you are funny blues isn't always about ripping through scales... good blues players can captivate you with 20 notes a minute

  • Yeah man I understand that, I play the blues, blues players my friend, believe it or not, are capable of being average sometimes too. He can't be on form every time - it's just reality.

  • you were not into the song, probably. I felt buddy's soul. That was improv

  • i love how john and buddy traded bars at the end

  • it;s called phrasing dude.

  • Ya i this goes out to all the people that think John Mayer isnt an artist, or cant play guitar, or cant write worth shit. Well if he is all those things, do you really think a LEGEND like BUDDY GUY would be their playing with mayer. HELL NO!

  • Man...just imagine the emotion...the band of your idol with you in his place and other god of the guitar on you right side! That's one dream of every musician!

  • yeah man..thats crazy..buddy guys his idol also, when he was sisteen he used to send letters to buddy guy that would say "Dear Mr. Guy, I love your music and I'm gonna play on stage with you one day" and look at him now..

  • sixteen*

  • hope this doesn't get deleted like the last one

  • definately one of the coolest things i've seen in a while

  • that was soo cool!!!!!

  • thank u for postin' this!! one of my favorite live performances!

  • Great song and even better live! Notice how the bass player messes up on min 1:48 but you can hardly notice. Class A musicians!!

  • damn.. u caught dat real gud, lol, ur right tho

  • man

he was only twenty something when he got to play with his his idol's band, alongside another blues idol, buddy guy. can you imagine that?

  • Love It..!!

  • Awesome...

  • i didnt even like this song that much.......then i saw this....
