The mistake D&DO makes is that its Eberron. Very few old school D&D fans played or even gave a shit about Eberron, and all the youngsters are too busy playing WOW. They should have used Dragonlance or Forgotten Realms.

-worst graphics

-combat system is..one word: shit

its super slow and all u do is jump around and hack ur foes with ur weps

-the game is too easy to understand and the controlls are for children, crafting system is crapsicals.

-PvP is so dumb, all u have to do is get legendary weapons and u can own everything.

-unbalanced professions: Death Knight with full legendary items can 1v3 and own all.

and there are lots of other reasons.

fast-paced combat with lots of freedom, arguably the most customizable character creation/leveling anywhere, and quests so good other MMOs should be embarrassed. I'm currently a WoW player, WoW has instances, progression... I dont find it unrealistic to have to travel a while to get where you want to be. To be honest the "lure" of travelling instantly to a quest start almost puts me off.

I'm an original pen and paper D&Der, I tend to think nothing will ever capture the essence of what it was to play like that. But.. when I get to L70 on WoW, I may try D&D Online. Maybe.

It's fairly good, there aren't very many "outside" zones and most everything is instanced. Bit it is cool that alot of the quest have stories to them.

I recommend it highly. They've avoided a lot of the aggravations in other MMOs - instanced dungeons mean you never get griefed or have to camp for things to kill.. no running for 30 minutes to meet your party.. I've played pen-and-paper D&D (and many wargames) for 25 years, and tried other MMOs. This is the only one I've stuck with.

IT is definitely worth downloading the trial and playing ten days for free.
