  • how do i get back there? now i cry

  • My God, what a beautiful song!

  • i prefer the entire version... it is posted elsewhere on utube.

  • Sailing makes me sick as a dog but I still love going. I wore out the groves on this album. Yes a record.

  • One of my all time favorite songs!

  • I love this song and the singing of Crosby, Stills and Nash. It stands the test of time.

  • Absolute perfection.

  • this is why the 80's were great it seems every band no matter what decade they were from came out with a great song!

  • best trio of all time next to rush and triumph

  • I'M ON A BOAT!!! No, seriously, this is an epic song.

  • I just love this song from CS&N! It is such a smooth and soothing song to the soul. I will never forget the day I first heard this song. We were on my Aunt's houseboat on the river and the radio was playing and this song came on and I was just floored by how it made me feel inside. It is just so totally awesome! But you expect nothing less from this band. I dont know a bad song from them. Oh how I miss the days of this music, the best days of my life. The best memories! It just ended too soon!

  • I was born in 83, and this is one of my favorite songs I can't stand modern music, there's no skill involved, you either sound like a high school dropout (50 cent-Jay Z) or a pre-teen girl (justin bieber) call the cdc bieber fever is a pandemic that needs a vaccine

  • @tonyanthonyfowler I was born in 68 and couldn't agree more with you....the force is strong in you....

  • WTF? If you could get Crosby in the studio in the 80's, how difficult would have been to bring a real live drummer in? Great song none the less. But a drum machine? Fo' Rizzle kids?

  • @wavedonkey They didn't get him in the studio to record the song. Crosby did not sing on this song, despite his appearance in the video. Art Garfunkel sang Crosby's part, because Crosby was either too stoned or in jail/prison at the time (sorry it has been too long and I can't remember which). Either way, the lesson for all you aspiring musicians out there is to just say no to drugs, because otherwise you'll miss out on your group's biggest successes. ha-ha

  • @user2525able That's pretty fascinating info, and it explains why this song is so tight. Art Garfunkel is about fifty times more talented than David Crosby. From what I gather from gossip, CSN were so whacked out on drugs during this time period that they had singers backstage ghosting the harmonies at their shows. Has anyone else heard this rumor?

  • beautiful video but why cut out the last verse? it doesnt sound right without it

  • Comment removed

  • Love it! Never even knew that there was a video for this song!

  • There is nothing soothing about the southern cross

  • @beyondpatmos1 I believe this song is about the constilation that is visible only in the southern hemisphere not the rebel flag

  • @tonyanthonyfowler .... You're absolutely right. It is a constillation (group of stars) visible in the southern hemisphere's night sky. The Southern Cross' stars were also of great importance to the aboriginal people, who, depending on what part of Australia the tribe was from, had many beliefs and stories on the meaning of each star..... "Jagar"

  • @beyondpatmos1 You are obviously not a salior. This is about the most beautiful dangerous place on earth.

  • amazing

  • Love it!!

  • I miss these days so much.

  • One of CSNY's greatest. Stepehn Stills sounds terrific!

  • I've been listening to a lot of Mexican rap, but I like this song because it's smooth and beautiful.

  • The boys were right, when you see the Southern Cross for the first time, you know why you went that way.

  • beautiful, my fave from csny.

  • AAAAAHHHHHHHH,Real Music.

  • Not too often a song can really move you! This is a beautiful masterpiece.

  • Damn this sounds so good! What happened to music like this

  • @btownmxer : Can totally relate - as a 'supposedly' mature adult in my 40's, I long for those days and wonder the same thing - where's all the truly good music nowadays

  • @btownmxer Mtv happened...

  • yacht rock?

  • David Crosby,... Dam Good musician,. Steven Stills,...Dam good Musician,. Graham Nash,.....Awesome vocals,.....Together,..MAGIC.

  • I agree with blondwiththewind: the lyrics that were edited out are critical to the true theme of this song. WTF?

  • @hypercube64 Go to Minjabuuu's video. At exactly 4:00, the lyrics that blondwiththewind's talking about start there. And I also think they're important.

  • Great music, great and significant vocals . Always better than most of todays "so called" music. :-(

I might hear ever and ever.

  • Awesome song with awesome vocals.

  • his voice makes me hot

  • now THIS is harmony

  • i'm so glad i am a sailor. This song makes me feel safe.

  • Great soothing song, harmonies and of course a real music video - like only the 80's did it.

  • This is an anomaly for me. I usually like old stuff from old groups. CSN and CSNY are one of my favorites. This is new, relatively speaking, and it has become my favorite from the group. Solid sound and introspective and colorful lyrics. The metaphors fly.

  • this is music!!!!!!!!! is the southern cross a star constillation? im gunna look dat up

  • @rlomonaco69 you can only see it on the Southern Hemisphere. I am a native of Argentina. We use it to know where is the true South (sort of like your Northern Star). It is formed by 4 stars, and the cross is tilted. I moved to the good USA 25 years ago, but this song still gets me....

  • I love this song and video!

Beautiful harmonies always from these guys!

  • wow 7 dislikes kiss the middle of my ass u bastards and get the gaga out of your ears and listen to music idiots

  • Its like taking a trip and never leaving home. Love it play over and over.

  • Ok 4 straight times of listening. I gotta go. Im gonna be late.

  • you know, their harmonic blend is absolutely beyond measure. one of my favorites back in the day...

  • Comment removed

  • in my opinion....one of the finest song ever written. stephen really pours out his heart on this one!!

  • Boats and Hoes!?

  • @Bmont8030 Boats and Hoes!!! You're fucking hi!!! Haha good stuff

  • the heads cheated, lied and never failed to fail...so they finally realized it..check out the song wasted on the way...look around me, I can see my life before me, running rings around the way it used to be (got a clue yet heads?) I am older now, I have more than I have wanted but i wish that i had started long before i did, and there's so much time to make up, everywhere you turn, time we have wasted on the way (clue=high) !!!!! wtvr, these guys got it,up to you stoners, get it or waste away

  • ...and Music is Her Name

  • I wrote this song...I can't back that up. But it's fun to say. Oh, and I invented the question mark (?). Outrageous claim I know, but it's true.

  • @CouldBePublishing I invented the internet and the light bulb...ha ha ha seriously I'm 150 years old.

  • @jerryb19531953

You invented the internet? Algore? Is that you?

  • To put it simply.................BRILLIANT!

  • i am a teen and i love this song it confuses me how kids can listen to that that pop and hip hop crap

  • @deathalwaysremains .....You have a keen ear when it comes to great music! 80's forever!........"Jagar"

  • This is such a winning combination: The sea and stars, a message that you can survive painful things, perfect harmonies, and Stephen Stills incredible voice in the lead. An exquisite classic.

  • how old do u have to be to not enjoy life we will sail with you!

  • I used to sail and I loved this song. Still have a 30 footer in a slip, but nobody to sail it with anymore. Too old, about the age of the singers in the band.

  • @montelatici So old no one will sail with you??!! Didn't know that could happen!! Heck...I'll sail with you!! Helm hard over...come about!!

  • Steven Stills just might be my favorite vocalist of all time. Definitely top five...

  • I'm a junior in high school and I have grown up around sailboats. The sea is truly a beautiful place, and this song lies near to my heart.

  • I guess what I'm trying to say is that if I was a songwriter...and I had a band...I would never have the courage to bring in lines like "eighty feet of waterline, nicely making way"

  • Everyone swears it...but I really do like all kinds of music. This is one of my favorite songs. What's funny...as I kid I didn't get the sailing terms...I remember trying to figure out what they "meant" by a lot of the lyrics. And of course I wasn't ware of the Southern Cross (constellation) until much later. I get a kick out of this song. I love it.

  • I agree this song came out in 82' or 83'. Neil Young was still with the band in the 70's.

  • This song did not come ouit in tghe seventies it came ouit in the 80s I don't know who said that but this is just a correction

  • So young and so far away, great going away to the islands song. Awsome

memories of traveling. An oldie but specially good.

  • I like the guy in the middles voice, is that Stills?

  • @astrosfan339 thats graham nash actually. Stills is on the right there, and david crosby on the left.

  • @jarrodg70 Awesome thanks. Yea I know right away who Crosby is lol.

  • i love this song music was simple back then now music is very bad wish i was back in the 70s

  • this is like the old C.S.N. great tune . damn where has the good music gone

  • @TheA8markmwb When people shell out good money for shitty songs that's what kind of music you'll get.

  • I have been sailing my whole life, and this is one song i would play with my dad while sailing the Chesapeake bay. good memory's

  • i play this song alot sailing from va to the keys, dam i love it,its me

  • ithis song reminds of when i go to heaven

  • Crazy enough, this was my dad's favorite song. So when we were deciding on what to use for his funeral, we chose this song, seemed to fit him really well.

  • great tune enough said...

  • I seen these guys open for the Dead at 3 Rivers Stadium in Pitt. Pa. It was the most amazing show I have ever been to.

  • Great tune American songwriter at his finest!

  • great story in this song

  • Fine tune. It's probably been mentioned, but David Crosby didn't perform on the recording.

  • Definitely one of CS&N's best songs---if not THE best.

  • It may be 29 years but it seems like yesterday.

  • 29 Years Later. Finally we see this classic again.

  • I am so glad and surprised that people are still showing interest in this fantastic group!!

My favorite band of all time!!

  • Awesome UP, Thanks !!! Never saw this in the day. LOVE youTube

  • Great song, I remember going to see them in concert in 1988 at the Brendan Byrne arena in the Meadowlands, what a show! The special effects for After the Dolphin were amazing. What a night!

  • "Daylight Again". 1982; I was Freshman in HS.

I had this album; I bought it for this song, ended up liking almost the whole thing.

  • @Follguy Cool, I was a senior in 1982. Finshed up that June. I miss those days.

  • I love this song more every time I hear it. This is a great version...nice to see the guys sailing and singing. But I resent the corporate influence on true artistry. There are some important lyrics edited out of this version. "So we cheated and we lied, and we tested. And we never failed to fail...it was the easiest thing to do. You will survive being bested. Somebody fine will come along, make me forget about loving you...and the Southern Cross." Check out the vid with the slide show of ships.

  • @blondwiththewind My favorite lyric as well. It's like amputating a leg off of the Venus de Milo! NOT OKAY! I always think of David Crosby really taking those lyrics to heart, while I am doing the same. Whatever doesn't kill us makes us stronger! Viva CSNY/CSN forever!

  • @blondwiththewind Lay off the drugs!

  • @yukons95 Totally irrelevant comment.

  • There is a LOT of good music to enjoy "out there". But in my opinion...there are two groups that (in terms of technical "know how") truly know music, appreciate intricate composition, and never underestimate the importance of fine lyrics. Those two groups are: TOOL...... and Crosby, Stills, and Nash (well...OK...add on Young if you have to from time to time :-)

  • I love this song & video. Such great harmony. I saw them a long time ago. A great band!

  • Ok, so two songs I can say ether honestly changed my life or maybe for lack of a better term, explained it. Southern Cross (CSN) One (Metallica). Thanx to both.

  • this was one of my brothers favorite song

  • I realized why twice you ran away! I'm familiar with that line. I did what stills did-I sailed alone-on my boat and in life.

  • There are few of us left ..remember the RMS Bermuda? This song was our anthem ... the promise of a coming day ....

  • I was born December 26, 1968, only my two oldest children thank me for introducing them to this awsome music, they do not make them like this anymore. I would not trade my time and getting to know this music for anything in life, to the post for the person who has his dad in a better place, make the cruise, he will be there with you in spirit, make the cruise dont wait to regret it later. Make the cruise and post a post about it.

  • " ...I have been around the world, looking, looking...." (Literally I have been) Wooow!!! talk about nostalgia....I Love, love this song!!!!

  • This song will always remind me of the early days of MTV, when the songs and the videos were great! A Fantastic Song

  • Who could dislike this song? It's been rated, voted, and un-officially posted in the top 10 best rock/folk songs ever.

Not only that, it's mainframe poetry comingle perfectly with two entities at once.

  • Cool song. Makes me want to go sailing and chase women.

  • I have been around the --Lookin for women girl!!!

  • You know this song isnt really about sailing is about music and how like sailing to them

  • I am driving my family crazy by playing this over and over, lol. This song kicks some serious morning butt! Thanks for putting it up.

  • I think my favorite singer is Stephen Stills, until I hear Neil Young, until I hear Graham Nash, until I hear David Crosby . . . Damn!

  • damn I love this song so much.. I remember having the album. it brings back so many memories for me..

  • My #1 favorite song!!

  • this was back in the day when music was really music.

the music of today doesn't even come close

  • my #2 song of all time. #1-traveling man by brother bob seger

  • Now this is music!

  • Nice visual effects. And Nashie's ear alone is just superb

  • The stars aligned when these 3 masters got together. Ther is no better harmony ever produced. True harmony, true voices. true talent. Not autotune!!! Music today sucks!!!

  • Perfect song. Great music, vocals and lyrics.

  • Just a Awesome Song; its a true shame that no one produces music like this anymore and glad they took the time to make us view life at a different prospective

  • when u c that southern cross for the first time, you know exactly why u came this way......and i know it will.......because it did. and love endures. Now why'd u have 2b so mean....you lose. i win. and u know who u r and u know i know u know this is all about me...not u!!!!

  • nice tune

  • Luuuuuv this song!

  • Nobody can ever touch CSNY!Much Love.....

  • classic CSN!

  • I cannot get enough of this song! :-)

  • 14 years young and I LOVE CROSBY STILL NASH AND YOUNG!!!!!

  • @Billyd1897 music knows no age .
