Variants of Arial? Arial is a rip-off of helvetica. Microsoft created Arial so that they didn't have to pay the royalties to helvetica.

@servant1999 I know you left this comment 6 months ago, and you probably can't even remember watching this video. But I'd just like to point out that Microsoft didn't have any involvement in the design of Arial, in fact it was intended for IBM printers and was designed for improved legibility.

I completely agree that Helvetica is the better typeface, it just angers me when people hate on Microsoft for copying it when they only picked Arial up because it read better on CRT monitors at the time.

Helvetica my preferred font, the one I can read the best. I'm glad it is widely available in Mac Computers. I still have 20/20 vision in spite of my slight astigmatism and now presbyopia.

Arial is probably what's closest to Helvetica in Windows and when we go cross-platform from Macs to windows to read Helvetica, windows substitutes with Arial or other fonts sometimes. To me, those are harder to read. People may find a specific font to be easier to read according to you lens or corneal shape.

There's nothing deep about it, but in a way, there is a meaning beyond just a font.

there is a lot more than you see. Helvetica is not just a typeface. It is the most widely used and incredible neutral typeface. Look at BMW, Target, American Airlines, etc. Why not create a documentary about this typeface?

Arial is based on Helvetica to the point where most people can't tell the difference without being told where to look.

And Comic Sans is not a real typeface; it's an ugly font made for some kids' software, and for whatever reason MS has seen fit to include it in every Windows version. Go check out Blambot for some actual GOOD comic fonts.

Comic Sans was actually first made for Microsoft's tips in MS Office. It is an ugly font though, and it is used for things that are meant to be serious.

You are correct! If you wanna get a good sans-serif font, go for Helvetica. It's easy to spot Helvetica: the letter "R"'s tail is curver more than Arial. Also, the "G"'s tail goes downward, like a foot.
