  • Geraldine Chaplin (the real daughter of Charlie Chaplin) playing his mother here.

  • Como se llama la canción que canta la madre, que después termina cantando Chaplin???

  • John Barry stirkes again with a brilliant opening score. I was never a real fan of Chaplin especially so since he s**t on Stan Laurel, but I loved this film.

  • I thought the slug balancer was pretty good, but the three twerps were one twerp short - AGAIN.

  • man, Robert is young in tihs!

  • The woman playing Charlie Chaplin's mother in this is his daughter in real life :D

  • I'm reading the autobiography the film is supposedly based on and it does bend the facts of his early life quite a bit. However that should not detract drom RDJ's great performance...

  • strange. It never not happening to Lillian Gish

  • Great Movies

  • 5.50 kate winslet..front row

  • where to get this movie with Spanish subtitles

  • happy birthday charlie!

  • Brilliant film! thanks for posting. :)

  • The opening sequence is pure art, so raw, so real. It is my favourite part of the entire film, it just captures so well his success but also his many anxieties in youth. I have read Chaplin’s autobiography and I would recommend it to anyone.

  • Robert is just perfect for any movie!

  • TY 4 uploading

  • awwwwwww little chaplin is sooooo cute :D

well so is older chaplin but child chaplin! awwwwwww :)

  • the photos of the real Charlie Chaplin always had a smile on his face. that chirpy cheerful look. Here in this film, he is portrayed not smiling often throughout. always sad. hmm i guess this movie is suppose to look at how he really felt. his true feelings.

    and wow Robert never aged!

  • @cloudydaiz123 You're right, this film is based on "My Autobiography" by Charles Chaplin, and even if he was a cheerful and nice guy, he was very depressed his whole life through.

  • @TheMadHatterAmI :( you find most comedians are :(

  • you are the two most great thing to make me more than thankful and respect , posting chaplin and madhatter <3 Thank u so much for this

  • @CeliozEden You're welcome friend ;)

  • I loved the first scene of this movie.

  • I must say thank you for posting this. I heard about this film a couple months back and have wanted to see it since! Quick question, though. What kind of cream is it Chaplin puts on his face during the opening sequence? I couldn't tell.

  • @wmasque

    You're welcome friend.

Well it's some sort of a vintage product of make-up remover ;)

  • @TheMadHatterAmI Well you can use normal cream for remove make-up now too... it's more soft for the skin! ;) I never use make-up remover personly... (maybe I watch that movie too much time when I'm a kid, it's look normal for me :P)

  • @TheMadHatterAmI Godbless you Brother... :)

  • @wmasque its called cold cream still available today a well known brand is "ponds" this brand has been around for many many years and i believe was and is still used in the theatre to remove stage makeup... it was very popular in and out of the theatre

  • @kitkat6026 That's an interesting bit of trivia! Thanks for answering my question. I enjoy seeing theatre, so I'm always willing to learn more about it.

  • @wmasque - it's called Cold Cream - not much used now.

  • u r sooo awesome!!! thnx for uploading this

  • Tough crowd!

  • Imortal is Charley - Not many actors can say they can make that happen in a film this is wonderful x

  • I have to say it was a very very good movie, but its could have focused more on the film making side of it rather than the social aspect, and this scene with charlie doing the song is a bit cringe factor

  • Do you have this movie in French please ? Because I'm French and I don't understand very well . Thank you

  • Great, that it is here on Youtube! I´ve never seen it! And also great that there are so many hot women in it!

  • i love his movie limelight he made me cry and in the same time he made me luagh, RIP Charlin Chaplin.

  • the first movie I fall in love with... I see that around 6 and I just discover Charlin Chaplin movies around 17! :P Now I have alot of Chaplin movies but not that movie about him so... thank you! :D

  • @emeliejolie87

Hehe, kinda the same happent to me, was watching Chaplin, Buster Keaton, Laurel and Hardy so long back than i can remember, then about 4 years ago when i was around 16 i suddenly felt very curious about the little man with a bowler, mustache and cane again. And now i got all his movies, his Autobiography alot of posters and i cant get enough of him ^^ He's the greatest person i know

  • @TheMadHatterAmI He is!

  • the little kid is sooo cute

  • that lady that plays Charlie's mum in this movie is actually Charlie Chaplin's real daughter if I remember rightly

  • @pixiepqueen Yes, Geraldine Chaplin.

  • i love this movieee!!

  • is a young stan laurel in this movie

  • @machinadeferia You're very welcome, i'm glad you appriciate it =)

  • after i watching this movie. i watched scent of a woman.

i love al pacino to bits but i agree, robert downey jr should've won for his role in this movie.

  • It's cool that Geraldine Chaplin was in it.

  • I'm not usually a big fan of Robert Downey Jr...But, wow. This is really something.

  • hey thanks for posing this movie i never knew this guy before till today, hes a genius!!!! in the world of movies, he is the #1 Legend!!!

  • @cma12346

I'm glad you think so, because so he is, you should see Chaplin's own movies aswell, thats the closets we ever get to magic, he's the greatest artist ever born.

  • @cma12346 you have got to check out his other work, this is just the beginning. He is phenomenal in everything he does.

thank you for posting this :) It's an incredible movie, RDJ should've gone home with this oscar.

  • @DesQueJteVois yea I wanna check other of his works, i dont care if they are really old, they are mad funny and he´s just very creative about his characters

  • what do you do charlie ? smile . enorme . una mirada preciosa marcada por el sufrimiento de una madre esquizofrénica . la sonrisa profunda de quien ha sufrido tanto que conoce en profundidad el alma humana . magistral robert downey jr .

  • I Like This Movie Too Much, Thanks For Uploading !!!

  • Yum, fish'eads!

  • Thanks big time for posting this movie! Youtube should allow all films, its art. Kev from Canada.

  • You're welcome.

  • @48alfaone Except artists usually like to be paid for their work

  • @LitterboxDiorama Your right, Artist's should be paid and paid well !! Run old Movies here on YouTube with a "few" AD's, not as bad as TV though. I would sit through a "few AD's" to watch great old films here on Youtube! Then the Artist would get some money for a film they did many years ago! Plus Youtube would make even more money, say 25% ! Its all about the money in life, true enough.

  • Thanks so much for uploading this film!I love it!

  • You're very welcome, i'm glad you love it.

  • omg, little Charlie is sooo cute!

  • taff guy....-.-

  • the opening to this movie is just amazing, the music is perfect. Robert Downey Jr blew me away in this.

  • the ending is perfect also :)

  • oh yes, its excellent.

  • amazing movie

  • the young charlie is just too too cute <3

  • great movie i have seen it a few times(its always on tv but i always catch it when its an hour in) my film class watched it and we all loved it.

  • really!

what channel does it come on??

  • a few canadian channels... sorry.

  • Awesome, thanks for the upload.

  • thank you so much for uploading this movie!

  • You simply cannot top the music for the opening credits.

The song perfectly captured the essence of Chaplin: the ability to make you cry and smile at the same time.

  • I love their accents!

  • thanks for uploadin it pal.

  • No problem, enjoy.

  • thanks for uploading this! One of my favorites!! xxxxx

  • my family lived down the street from his summer cottage in the 70's. The town tore it down, but some wanted it to be a landmark. It was owned by his wife Oona O'Neil

  • John Barry's score for this film is so amazing

  • Chaplin - new favorite movie.

  • Yea, he sadly died the 3 marts this year, R.I.P

  • Amazing, I've seen all Chaplin movies, but i didn't know there was actually one about him, great music btw.

  • Downey is a brilliant actor when he can stay on the rails. Thank you for the upload

  • cute little charlie xD

  • chaplin is the greatest actor of all time no one can top him!!

  • Wow.. I didn't know there was a movie about Charlie Chaplin.. Thanks for the upload , by the way ;)

  • in spanish!! PLEASE! :(

  • GREAT movie.

  • That Robert must be the great actor, when he can act someone like Chaplin. :)

  • Robert Downey Jr. was amazing in this!

  • One of the best opening credits, imo.

  • Excellent film. Clearly everyone who worked on this film where at the top of their game. Thanks.

  • @Hania454 YEAH!!!! as the list of the cast was shown at the beginning i was like "WHOA!!! this is an all star powerhouse cast they got in here" ... got me more excited to watch the whole movie :)

  • The music in this movie is absolutely beautiful, especially the song that plays during the opening credits.

  • The kid actor who played the young Charles Chaplin was adorable, he reminds me of the kid from Jerry Mcguire.

  • AGREED!

  • Depend how you look at it, my opinion is that Chaplin's art is above even damn good films that are made in the last 50's years, a film like "What's eating Gilbert Grape" which is damn good film. But Chaplin's stuff (Buster Keaton aswell when we comes to it) is the art of Slapstick, an almost forgotten sort of comedy, and Chaplin really showed the true love in his movies. So yes, it is besides Chaplin's films.

  • I'm 14 years old, and I watched this movie for the first time last night, and i can easily say it was one of the best I have ever seen. It became one of my all time favorites from the first 5 minutes.

  • I'm glad you like it. It is indeed one of the best movies ever made.

  • Chaplins daughter Geraldine plays his mother in this film

  • And they say the English are reserved people 4:57

  • Saw this in the movie theatres back then, was 20 years old.

    Great stuff...............

  • I saw this again on sky the other night and i love it! Also the music is very moving and emotional.

  • I love this movie!! thanks for posting.

I have been watching this since I was 6.

I read chaplin's book and its very different than the movie that its based off of.

  • And always spot on cinematography by Sven Nykvist. Oh wow, Lord R.A. can make movies!

(And he's great in Jurassic Park IMHO)

And a big thank you, to his film partner Diana Hawkins, for writing those two letters: "CC", and that twenty page outline, that got this film made! :D

  • Thank u !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • has anyone ever noticed in the film charlie (5 yrs old) had bushy hair then when they were chasing it was shaved?

  • They would shave the children's hair to help prevent head lice, in the work camps

  • thank you. i always wondered that.

  • Good lord...his eyes...

  • Robert Downey jr has *amazing* brown eyes, super "deep" and expressive. Sadly, they look a bit haunted now since his time in the joint, but he really knows how to "fake it" as he says. ;)

  • This is an excellent movie and biography. Charlie was quite a man. Thanks for uploading. Peace.

  • ive just watched this film on dvd and at the end credits i noticed "stan laurel" played by...whoever. My question is, i dont remember seeing or hearing any reference to stan? Can someone point him or the reference out to me???

  • one of the best movies ever

  • i LOVE this movie. Chaplin is an all around interesting man. i wish i could of known him. so intriguing. and of course, what a cinematic genius! great GREAT movie, and RDJ in it...is perfect. no one could of captured Chaplin's essence and soul the way he did.

  • i could not agreee with you morreeee<3

  • This is the beast movie he has ever done.

If someone has it i am looking for the made for tv movie MAN IN A IRON MASK the 1977 version. Staring Ricjard chamberlin

  • Robert Downey Jr was brilliant in this film.

    Thx for sharing!

  • Omg thank you for uploading this movie!!!!

  • the sadest pert of this film for me is when chaplin founds out hetty died :( so sad ! :'(

  • thank you!!!!!!! :D you are a very kind hearted person for uploading this for us!

  • You're very welcome, i'm sure you all would have done the same for me ;)

  • THANKYOU!!!! I've wanted to watch this forever!! You've just made my weekend!

  • You're very welcome. Enjoy.

  • thankyou so much.

  • Wow..I look forward to giving this movie my full attention and watch it all when i have the time.

Thank you so much for posting this what looks like will be a wonderful, emotional film!

  • Yes, it's a great film. To me, Diane Lane as Paulette Goddard is horribly miscast. The are both my favs, but come on.

Jennifer Love Hewitt as Audrey Hepburn=perfection. That makes sense. But Diane as Paulette. They just wanted another big star. It would have been better to search, find, and cast an unknown who most resembled Paulette.

Also, Anthony Hopkins is in it for no reason but star power. He plays a made up person, who never existed. That is just redundant. Chaplin wrote it alone.

  • I do agree. Ive watched up until part 9 now which is where Lane comes in and you are right. I think she is miscast.

I was observing Robert D Jr and his mannerisms and you can tell he must have really studied Chaplins movies and his body language because Chaplin comes out in Jr's acting to near perfection at times, so he was great for the role. but..nothing out of Diane, .Shame really!

  • True, Jennifer was perfect as Audrey (The right speciel accent and everything) Diane did a fine job though, but yea they probaly could have found someone who might fit even better. But then again RDJ reminds me more of Buster Keaton than Chaplin, no doubt he is looking alot like Chaplin, but RDJ is born to look more like Keaton than chaplin i think. (I'm talking without make-up)

But i still think this movie is one of the best ever made.

  • Look forward to it. It really is one of the best films ever made. Just surprising unknown for some reason.

    Thank you alot.
