  • I am fixing to be in middle school and the band instructor said I was good at playing it when I was trying all the instruments and now that I have watched this it looks really hard!!

  • i play both trumpet and french horn. I think horn is way harder to play.

  • umm.... ALL brass instruments depend on embouchure to reach to right note!

  • it isnt the hardest instrument!!! its EASY!!!

  • Lololo . Guess What . Theres Only Two French Horn Players In Our School . One Is Me The Other Is An 8th Grader (x Also Im One Of Two Girl Brass Players (x

  • Must.Learn.Now.

  • Hey! I used to play euphonium for my skul's wind orchestra! And i recently picked up french horn as my instrument as there are lacking french horn players! So yea...do u think i cn gt used to do embouchure within 2 or 3 months as my comp is quite near! Btw on my first trial i could hit till the treble clef space C note!

  • I play FHorn for 3 th. year, I can play notes from little e to f2, I dont know did you understand, I am Finnish and 13 years old. My teacher said that I am borned to play fHorn :) And I am proud of that.

  • uhm i just wanna ask. Is it still gonna be hard for me to play the french horn if i already know how to play the trumpet?

  • @DoTaNeWb1247 It's not hard at all! I used to play Trumpet and now I'm playing horn. The only thing is that it takes a bit to get used to the different fingerings, and the way you place your mouth.

  • @DoTaNeWb1247 no its not i switched from trumpet to play French Horn and it was easy. :) hope this helps

  • i once knew a kid who played french horn... he still does.

  • any brass instrument will have multiple notes for the same fingering. Horn's notes are very close though.

  • Was this video recorded with a French Horn?

  • for me, this is actually one of the easiest instruments that ive played so far... :)

  • @nikki91847 I find that hard to believe.

  • @nikki91847 Well then, PLAY IT, PLEASE! Might be your calling, young lady.

  • "If you're trying to play the French horn and you feel very frustrated, you're not crazy."

What if you're not frustrated? Does that mean you are crazy?

  • I'm switching from violin to french in school :)

  • @96brazil Same here! I've been playing violin for 6 years, and I've wanted to play french horn forever. We are a really small school, and our band doesn't even have a french horn player. Come to think of it, I'm just about the only violinist too... ;)

  • I'd say it's the hardest instrument I've ever played. Also, I hate to start this argument again but it's not a "French" horn! It's a phrase exclusively use in English, and I'm not sure how it originated. It's the HORN. If any nationality was applied to the instrument, it should be German.

  • ;-; i have to play the french horn now. my friend got saxophone when i wanted it

    ;-;

  • Shut up*

  • @ maskedmajician French horn is a very hard instrument. It's even harder when u play the mellafone (marching band frenchhorn), i recommend starting with a double f horn no matter what u r told. It helps with the high notes.

@vrwaters dude if u have enough determination and u practice constantly and on a trumpet u can become REALLY good in 3 years. Oh and lol on my phone which I'm using to type this your autocorrected name is breastfead.

In short you guys both have good points but you should n

  • hahaaa people are arguing on a french horn instructional video. now ive seen it all.

  • I did that all with my mouth

  • long sotry short. been playing trumpet damn near 3 years. im hella good on trumpet. but im bored with it cuz no one is effing with me(in my town or clasS) so i have no competetion no drive to play trumpet so i plan on switching to french horn. if im not half as good as i am on trumpet in a month on french horn ill swich back. give me time before the sugar bowl(we playin againwoot) to get back used to the trumpet

  • @maskedmagacian 3 years and you think you're "hella good"? No one can become "hella good" in 3 years on any instrument. It's not about the competition, it's about the music... Watch some youtube videos of real trumpet players, and go buy some real music (meaning, not from your middle school's band). Pick a brass instrument and stick with it so you can build up some chops.

  • @vrwaters three years. u mmust suck ass. lol im not in middle school. only chops u kno about is porkchops.

  • @maskedmagacian It takes a big man to talk trash behind a computer on youtube. For your information, I have performed twice on the stage of the Sydney Opera House in Australia, in Dublin, Ireland and twice on stage in Carnegie Hall in NYC. So yes, I must be terrible if I play 30 concerts a year and travel the world.

By the way, I guessed that you were in middle school because of your atrocious grammar and spelling.

  • @vrwaters u must be a big man because you came at me first. I defended myself from your trolling now you basically say im trolling. Good job. i dont care about your past present or future. u could have played for a president and did him and his wife after and i wouldnt care. when someone come at me and flame me im damn sure gone flame back. ur older thanme yet u keep coming at me. u think im in middle school and u keep flaming me. con fucking gratz. seriously grow the fuck up.

  • @maskedmagacian Alright flamer, take it easy. I was only suggesting that you stick with an instrument. I wasn't trying to start a fight. By the way, people will continue to think you're in middle school if you continue to type like that. It's just difficult to read, and you will never be taken seriously. For starters, try typing "you" rather than "u" or "you're" rather than "ur". It doesn't take that much more effort...

  • @vrwaters im the flamer. lol u started with me.

u suppose to be older than me well grow up and be the bigger man and let ish go u keep replying.

sounds like u wanna be an english teacher to me.

  • @maskedmagacian You won't be half as good on horn as you are on trumpet, but don't sweat it; pick up something like flugel and make yourself feel good.

  • not true the trumpet and horn is beccause if you can play the horn you can play trumpet

  • Comment removed

  • @G0ztRec0n but if you play trumpet, you can't play horn... So isn't horn harder?

  • is it natural to use much force for higher notes? I get exhausted every time I hit a high note.

  • My band teacher thought I should play the french horn because we need one for our concert and we only have 1 in the whole band, i originally a trumpet player and top in my band, so i have decided to look up anything i can about french horn since iw ill be playing french horn 1 and the concert is in a month and i need to learn the whole music that we have been practicing for 3 months. I just hope th switch from trumpet to horn is easy, can anyone help or give me tips? please it will help

  • @appletoyapoptarts same here

  • Anybody else like the ad so much you watched it all the way through even though you could skip it?

  • im pretty sure the G's proper fingering is thumb and first valve

  • @ILovePeanutButer7181 Actually, G is completely open.

  • @br0itzmadi either one works

  • im saying that cuz it should have the same fingering as a Bb trumpet, but it doesnt.

the problem is the tube that is in the 1st valve doesnt fit the third's place, because the bell blocks it so i cant put in the place...

  • ive got a horn yesterday, and its the seventh instrument im learning

its overtone series is a lot crazy, but i think it helps, just blowing, not much fingerings to think about

anyway, my horn has a trigger, and i think there are some tubes in wrong place:

when its tuned in F (no trigger), the first finger goes down a wholetone, second a half tone, third a minor third

but with trigger, in Bb, 1 and 3 are inverted, and 3 is a whole tone, 1 is minor third. is that normal?

  • Im Like Im trying To Play marry HAde A Little Lamb Can You Teach it To Mee

  • i like you much your positive attitude! i play Bb clarinet and i want to learn french horn. Salute from Argentina. And by the way you are so so so sexy with your lips ;D

  • i like you much your positive attitude! i play Bb clarinet and i want to learn french horn. Salute from Argentina.

  • is that a double french horn

  • @mommamikki It's hard to tell but I'm pretty sure it's a single.

  • @MsBeastIAm That's a double horn, she has a trigger.

  • im learning how to play french hornn

  • im too

  • i used too play trumpet but....its french horn time :3

  • Gonna see if I can rent one from the kendall conservatory of music. should be fun to get pissed at it :3

  • I'm learning to play french horn, & I already play flute ; < 3

  • you are way sexy I am going to add you and I hope to learn this french horn!

  • I play the flute and the french horn and I love them both. Once you know one instrument it is so easy to learn another one. I played piano for 4 years which really helped when I wanted to play the flute I stopped piano and started the flute. I played it for 2 years then went to the French horn. I now play the French horn and the flute and they are both really easy.

  • french horns are awsome! french horns are awsome! french horns are awsome!french horns are awsome! french horns are awsome! french horns are awsome! french horns are awsome! french horns are awsome! french horns are awsome! french horns are awsome! french horns are awsome! french horns are awsome! french horns are awsome! french horns are awsome! french horns are awsome! french horns are awsome! french horns are awsome!

  • french horns are awsome!french horns are awsome!french horns are awsome!french horns are awsome!french horns are awsome!french horns are awsome!

  • i dont see why french horn drives away so many people. its not like its impossible to learn. you just need to challenge yourself!

i play bassoon but ive been learning french horn for three days and its so insanely fun. its my first brass instrument so its weird but i love it!! :)

  • so fg & a is the does that mean the first two valves are pressed down

  • thnx u rlly helped me

  • If you are actually looking to learn to play they french horn realize that this video is complete garbage haha. Prime example of someone thinking that they know what they're talking about. Pretty amusing though

  • i need an expert in french music because i want to find some cool french songs i've searched for years

  • @ntakaka im no expert but ive been getting into jacques brel.. and carla bruni is great if youre looking at contemporaries.

  • @gooseymoose well since they're in french I can't really tell the lyrics but I remember the music videos and melodies quite well. should I find someone who knows about the subject maybe they(or you) could help me if I described the videos

  • I just rented two new instruments. The Double French Horn and the valve trombone I love both of them. The french was not really hard for me, I just had to print off a fingering chart, since I'm the only one in my school who plays the french horn. I'm in the 8th grade. The valve trombone is like the baritone horn. It has the same pitch (tenor trombone) I have been really good at my pedal tones. I can hit below a low E!! No joke!

  • The best advice I could give you guys is to practice, practice, practice. It is good if you already play a brass instrument, because the same techniques go around the brass instruments. What you guys could also work on is to fit a portion of your lip inside the mouthpiece cup. It gives you some type of comfort and tension without pressing your lips on the mouthpiece. P.S. Take the mouthpiece off when not in use. It prevents mouthpiece jamming in the reciever. :) Hope that helped!

  • don't worry people if you're starting to learn this instrument as long as you want to play it you will learn. I learned to play this in second grade and took me like 3 to7 months of solid practice just to learn how to blow properly. I now i switched to piano and bass cuz im really into metal now XD.

  • i've played a flute for 4 years and skipped over to the french horn recently. Are there any tips for me ? i'm having a hard time reaching the lower notes like F or C.

  • @junomongous lol i just switched from flute to french horn too! im still begining so i dont really have any tips sorry :(

  • How different os the shape of the mouthpiece?

    thanks for your help.

  • I've been playing the euphonium for 5-6 years and am tempted to learn the French Horn as well.

Can anyone give me some pointers as to what i should do.

  • work on your lips a lot. going from a euphonium mouth piece to a french horn mouth piece is a really big transition.

  • i played trumpet for 5 years and french horn is harder and hard to here the notes

  • I've played the clarinet since I was 9 and im 12 now and i am going to switch to French Horn will it be hard or really hard or maybe even a little easy please reply!!

  • a lot harder then if you moved from trumpet to french horn.

  • @skillamage2 crap, that means im in some trouble. I play trumpet, baritone horn, and trombone, but I'm up for the challenge. I'm playing it in 8th grade. I might actually buy instead of rent.

  • @carcrazy25Onx yeah horn is definetely the hardest brass instrument to play and argueably the hardest wind instrument overall (next to double reeds), but you seem like you enjoy brass so go for it! just takes a LOT of practice

  • @carcrazy25Onx No Its not that hard. I am an advanced to semi-pro trumpet player, and im going to be a junior in high school. but i recently took up the french horn also and the only thing i have trouble with is having more of my lips on top of the mouthpeice rather than on bottom. If you have any questions about any music instrument just ask. i can probably help.

  • @Jordantjaden so that means the fingerings are the same?

  • @usukkmydikk no only about a Bb middle G or in C concert a Ab then they are the same. but anywhere on there would be different fingerings.

  • @Jordantjaden well, what if u played for a year, and didnt practice much over the summer. i practiced a few times during the summer, and when i tried playing it at band practice, it sounded like it did when i first started playing it a year ago, which is bad, so do u know any tips for recovering??????

  • I've played Clarinet for almost 8 years an Ive started playing a French Horn, and having a musical ear helps a lot. Being able to hear the partials helps me with tuning and knowing kind of what I'm playing. If you do make the switch to French Horn from a woodwind, it's much easier if you've played longer.

  • Haha, that's funny... I'm a horn, my friend's a clarinet, and we're teaching each other our instruments.

  • ur right. when i play a note, i tend to play higher than normal cuz i am a strong note player

  • she looks horny :P

  • I have a french horn that doesn't have the thumb valve does anyone know what one it is?

  • Its called a Regular F horn hope i helped thats wat im startin

  • a single horn

  • alto sax is completely different than a french horn in pretty much everyway...just like she says and just like a trumpet..theres like 5 different notes for 1 fingering and pitch is really hard to control on a F horn...i am a trumpet player(4 yrs) and going to try out the F horn

  • I played an alto sax and really loved it but now i cant, so im looking for another instrument, ive looked into clarinet but, maybe wanted to try french horn? would i be able to switch? ive played the alto sax for 1 year

  • switch to clarinet.......

  • french horns have great timbre, they really stand out. I heard its the hardest to learn, you have to be really dedicated not to throw the horn out a window

  • I want to switch to this from euphonium/baritone. Do you think I can?

  • I made the switch between high school and college from euphonium to french horn. The fact that you allready play brass helps a bit for technique, breathing, etc, but you will have to retrain yourself a bit on the smaller mouthpiece (and higher resistance) as well as the different instrument key and fingerings. Just work hard at it and it wont be a problem at all.

  • You people are thinking of WOOD WIND, when she sais wind she means what goes through the tube

  • French horn is brass not wind!

  • Brasses are winds... '-.-

  • Then explain why the brass section and wind section arn't together :)

  • Winds are split into Brasses and Woodwinds.

  • Then why arn't saxaphones with brass :)?

  • Saxophones' situation is more particular. They are both considered brasses and woodwinds: it depends on people's point of view.

  • they built the saxaphones because woodwind instruments can't be heard from afar, they needed and instrument that can play just as loud as trumpets. so the sax's are woodwind instruments.

  • The first brass instrument to be added to an orchestra was the WaldHorner, or natural horn and was considered a woodwind. to this day, we play in both woodwind quintets and brass quintets. We go both ways

  • wind instruments are something you blow into...take trumpet for example, its a brass instrument, but its also a wind instrument.

  • she means a wind instrument. A wind instrument is in an instrument that is played by blowing into it to make sound. Brass and woodwinds are the two types of wind instrument.

  • i switched from trumpet to french horn and it's frusterating as hell

  • same

  • How old are you? I just wanna tell you, im 13 and switched the way u did...maybe i just a natural...you cn trust it will get eaSIER

  • well dude i have a broken thumb on my left hand

  • Comment removed

  • im about to switch from flute to french horn and i was wondering if you think it would be hard for me to do that?

  • well you would have a much harder time with switching from flute to french horn over let's say the trumpet or the euphonium. because the muscles in your lips are not as developed, you will find it very hard to get higher notes for quite some time

  • I am in the process of possibly switching from trumpet to french horn, but the different scales are fairly confusing. Anyone have any tips for me?

    If so message my account.

  • And about switching to from Trumpet, I did the same thing. In 5th grade I played trumpet and switched in 6th grade. It wasn't to hard.

  • I've played horn for 3 years, it gets easier to get higher later on. I can reach up to a F above high C, and also joined an orchestra. I started in 6th grade and had a goal to be a great horn player ever since.

  • It is hard switching because I tried trumpet 1 and it took me 4 months to learn french horn because it is really difficult.

  • Is it difficult switching from trumpet to French Horn? I'm a trumpet player but my band director wants to try me out on french horn because he needs more french horn sound.

  • O.o wish I could hit those notes...

  • well...its verry hard :)

  • hey i wanna switch from trumpet to french horn too but only for concert season is it hard? good question

  • Is it hard switching from trumpet to French Horn?

  • yes!
