WOW! im a professional dog trainer. This man is letting the DOG call the SHOTS!!! NOT good 4 the dog at ALL! A dog NEEDS a BOSS, not an equal. Harness is a NON-training tool. A strong, dominant breed like this needs firm and complete training if they r gonna live in society. It's best 4 the dog. Dog owners-it's NOT a democracy- the dog loves and respects a BOSS much more than an 'equal.' This guy should have got a copy of Koehler Method of Dog Training 2 leash-train this dog!

i think it childish that everyone arguing over the video the harness is on wrong if it is even a proper harness! and the dog is clearly unhappy!! i have an akita aged 2(kuma) rescued him recently and he had not been out alot still had pink pads but when he got out on lead he was so proud and happy!! this poor dog looks like it needs socialising or even walking in confines of garden first. not having a go just an observation

lol installing isn't rly the right word but yeah what they said. and having a harness on a dog incorrectly causes discomfort to the dog and makes it difficult to easily move. O.o u might want to fix the harness.

Its his FIRST WALK EVER. Maybe we should make you walk on all fours, put some weird harnass on you and take you to some huge strange place dragging you around in circles and see how you feel. Its natural for a dog to feel confused and upset especially if he isn't used to the owner yet.

You obviously don't even pay attention. This issues is long over with. The owner says he walks fine now so your "advice" is just going to be target to criticism and not useful in anyway.

Hey, I own and show 6 akitas, and you are not taking charge of your dog, and he is clearly a clam dog who would listen. Don;t use a harness. Stop being STIFF about everything; make walking Shogun a pleasurable activity. Stop lookin at him all the time, walk positivity. He is reacting to what you are doing. Correct your dog when he is alert. About if he is pure or not. I AM AN AKITA BREEDER, THIS DOG IS AN AKITA. Don't question it, not high quality but undeniably

LOL is video is so old, he actually a lot better now. This is the first time he was on a leash and very scared. As far show quality, every time I walk my dog people always come up an gauck at him, they will literally stop their cars or bikes to look at him. Will have to update with new video soon.

My vet said to always lead with the head. Just like you see in the ring. and take charge. be very stong and positive in his eyes. Dogs want a leader. If he is new to you, he may be grieving his last owner?? Don't giv up. Don't listen to stupid comments like "you got a runt". They don't know about dogs. Be loving and patient and he will come around.

hahaha, My pup akita waz just like that when we started leash training him. He'd be stubborn an lay down every 5 ft.

PS: that harness is correct, it's just a different style made for stronger dogs. Supposed to help with them pulling.

yeah..either the harness is wrong or too small and yes he is not happy. To stop pulling just get a Gentle Leader, it goes aroudn the face and acts like a halter for a horse..it's wonderful and humane..a choke chain is good too since they can't pull out of it. .poor boy..he is indeed upset. People please..these are not just "cool exotic" dogs..they are special...do homework before getting one!

He is a sweet heart of a dog really nice and well tempered I have better video of him soon. He can now walk on a leash this was the second time in his life on a leash! He is doing so much better.

That dog is ALL Akita. American type. It would be much smaller if it was part Elkhound. A video of your breedings may be interesting to see.

He is a pure Akita I rescued him from MARS. In this video he weighs about 90lbs now is about120lbs doing much much better. I have new video that I will post shows him doing much better. In this video here we just took out for a walk from the shelter. This is his first time ever out in public! He spent the past 4 years locked in a horse stall :(

I don't think the harness is on wrong, I think its one of those new anti-pull harnesses. Maybe he just doesn't like the anti-pull harness? I have a male Siberian Husky that we tried the Halti-Lead on since he pulled and he hated it and wouldn't walk in it and would always try to pull it off. We ended up switching to a plain harness and he walks in that fine.

looks like you got the harness on wrong...and if thats how you're supposed to have it on then you need to get another one cause the poor dog cant walk in it. Also, grow some balls before you get a dog like an Akita. Read a book.

i had to force my to walk on a leash, he didnt want to at first he was a medium sized puppy when i started to leash train him and i had to really force it on him, i actually made hime jog around my back yard with me, after a few sessions he got the hang of it and walks/runs when i  do, of course there our exceptions

Our family dog is an Akita (Japanese style - black head, white body) You need to be a bit more forceful to show whos the alpha male. I dont mean hurting him or anything, just show your the "pack leader". Ours is female, so shes a lot easier to deal with. Great dogs though.

Japanese style isnt what you described :s

Black mask isnt allowed for real Japanese akita inus.

Its the american style akita inu (in this vid too). Totally different breed in Japan.

OK OK i know i know but the dog is scared to death, i just met him and its FIRST time outside! He was severly abused thats why i rescued him. I wish you could see him now he has come around very well.
