Hi Julia, I really highly recommend you to read 'The Pillars of the Earth'. The mini series was great but you get SO much more out of the novel (because naturally they had to cut out alot of the plot for the series). And yes the reviews are right, 'The Pillars of the Earth' is better than 'World Without End', but having said that, I'm HIGHLY anticipating the release of the series :D
I've read the outlander series, and really enjoyed it. The first few books are utterly engrossing. I found the series became a bit long winded - I think there are 7 books with an upcoming 8th - but then again I packed them into just a few (3?) weeks. Maybe if I had spread them out a bit more it wouldn't have seemed so laborious towards the end. Nonetheless, the story is original, the historical perspective authentic and the characters are rich and appealing. Hope you enjoy! xo
Pillars of the Earth and World Without End are alongside The Lord of the Rings on my bookshelf as my all-time favorite novels. Keep them and read them every few years and see how your perspective and understanding of the characters and the Middle Ages matures. Amazon has the just released PotE miniseries on DVD.
Fall of Giants by Ken Follett is also very good, it's the same sort of story of history being viewed by the eyes of different people whose stories all converge in some way, but it's happening during the prelude to WWI and the war proper.
Pillars of the Earth was one of the first 'grown-up' books I read, and I remember it blowing me away. To those who haven't seen the mini-series, I highly recommend it, even if it is very long. But I'm like you in that I don't like reading books of movies I've seen. I haven't read World Without End, but maybe I will now.
I've been finding it quite hard to get the time to read recently since I've been workin as an pair for a woman who doesn't get the concept of free time. But I'm about to try!
Loved World Without End and currently reading Fall of Giants next up will be Pillars of the Earth, the prequel to World Without End. I deliberately avoided the mini-series because I'd prefer to read the book first. I absolutely love this series and plan to reread them in sequence . . . Pillars (12th century), World (14th Century) then Fall (20th century/WWI). A definite recommend, especially for those who enjoy period pieces.
I loved Pillars of the Earth...I'm having a REALLY hard time getting through World Without End. :( I guess I was expecting a continuation of the first book.
Ooh. I love the Outlander series! Ive read all of them. They're a little lengthy but I love that and the ending is always worth it. I hope you enjoy them!
Thank you for this review. Two years ago, I read The Pillars of the Earth and enjoyed it. However, I avoided World Without End because I read so many negative reviews on it. From what you describe about how the book focuses on 4 characters and their different paths, it reminds me a bit of The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan, where she writes about the lives of I think 4 t women who take different paths in their lives growing up and then raising their daughters.
helloo julia i highly recommend u to read the pilars. its an amazing book, i just loved it. the minisiries its nothing in comparison with the book. the details are the interesting part, the miniseries only tells the main events,,, the book tell everything and that makes you feel u are inside the book.
Great books! I read them yonks ago but had forgotten that I'd read it until I saw the show on the TV. Have been wanting to find a new book to start into for a while now. Was thinking of getting "the girl with the dragon tattoo" book and the sequels.
I just finished reading Wicked, The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West....very interesting...you almost have to study it because it's very wordy and such....it's not my usual type of book but I'm glad I read it!
Currently reading New Moan, Headstone City. I'm reading a couple others too but those are the one's i've read more of. I have a huge list of books I want to get!
I have this book, but I haven't started it yet, coz it's really long and I'be been reading few more books which are amazing. I highly recommend "the gargoyle" by Andrew Davidson, "the thirteen tale" by Diane Setterfield and now I'm reading "her fearful symmetry" by Audrey Niffenegger :)
Have you ever read any of James Rollins? If you like and adventrue type book try the Sigma Series by him. But anything by him is a good read. I will definetly check out the one you reviewed.
will defintiely have to check out these books and the tv series.
you should definitely check out diana gabaldon's books. although i haven't read all of them, outlander is definitely one of my top favorite books i've read over the years. i started book two but never got through it. i actually have all the books, i just need to not get into other series of books and just focus on finishing this series - lol.
currently, i am reading c.l. wilson's tairen soul series. so far so good.
Hi, I've read both books and I have really enjoyed them. The stories are just amazing, and I couldn't put them down. Just wanted to say thank you for this video too. :)
omg i've seen those books before but i was turned off because the books are over 1,000 pages and i don't know if i would enjoy it.....are the books really good even though it's long??
"How to find and Keep Lasting Love: Why Him? Why Her?" by Helen Fisher, Ph.D.
Its not a novel its an informative book on why we are pulled or driven towards certain people that make our hearts flutter... And why some people just never connect with us the same way...
@stefheartsyou: I like Jane Austen's work They are all love stories, I think its because in her life she only had one love who left her. So all her stories are about love, because its what she wanted in her life but couldn't have.... My most favorite is "Emma" you learn a lot from that book. It focuses in on other character's life in the book but Emma is the main influence. She considers her self as the "match maker" for everyone in her town, yet she doesn't want love, but ends up finding it.
Hi Julia!I just wanted to ask you if you could suggest me a bunch of books written in german or by german authors because I'm an italian student and one of the languages I'm studying is german!
The book is so much better than the tv-series, I am glad I read it in advance, otherwise it would have ruined it for me as well! I also read World Without End and I agree Pillars of The Earth is better. WWE is just like TPTE but with different characters and situations(still very similar to TPTE), which to me makes it a bit predictable and less interesting if you've read the first one.
I highly recommend the Book Thief, it's brilliant, you'll love it! Thanks for the book tips, you really made me want to read the Pillars of the Earth and World Without End.
If you are into historical fiction, you should definitely check out philippa gregory's books. She wrote the other bolelyn girl but she has so many more great books that take place before and after that one. Great author and amazing books.
I've always wanted to read some books by Ken Follett but I never got around to doing it. I suppose, however, that I'll have to buy a few next time I stop by the bookstore since your recommendations always suit my fancy. (: The Book Thief is a wonderful book and Markus Zusak's other works are just as great!
I'm re-reading The Wheel of Times series by the late, great Robert Jordan. The books never cease to please each time I read them over. :]
@TheThirdShift Misschecvious whats ur opinion about the situation going on on michelepham's channel-a beautiful story? its insane over there i never saw so much dislike and love at the same time. phan claims she was trying to spread awarness upon malaria but the public think she was showing off her one million subscribers. what is ur opinion?
@TheThirdShift : It's one of my fave books. Haven't read Khaled Hosseini's 2nd book, though. Read both 'The Pillars of the Earth' and 'World Without End'.
I'm currently reading 'The Help' by Kathryn Stockett, which I bought at the airport the day before yesterday and I'm already on page 100, lol.
Just read The Book Thief this past summer. Loved it ! It was so moving, I had borrowed it from someone and ended up getting my own copy so that I could have it for my own collection.
Stuck at home recovering from surgery so I read and look up your makeup tutorials. : ) Just finished an old classic Watership Down, a book about rabbits. Then I read October Moon, a young adult suspence book. It was a very easy read but entertaining. Now i'm reading Last Chance Saloon. I will have to buy some of the books you recommend.
great video! I am currently reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows for the first time, and a book for my english class that is called 'Girlfriend in a coma'.
I read Pillars of the Earth a few years ago and I loved it!! I also read World Without End.. They are both really good books. Even though these books are "old"( from the late 1980's) they are awesome! Glad you are spreading the word about this series.
I read the first few Outlander series books. And the first one is really good. But honestly I got kind of bored of them. A friend of mine who read them felt the same way. The first one is definitely worth the read though.
I watched The Pillars of the Earth miniseries on Netflix, if you have it. Wonderful show and then I read the book. Listening to World Without End now and looking forward to getting further into it. Thanks for the encouraging review!!!
I'm reading The Ask by Sam Lipsyte,it's brilliant, very funny.
I like more contemporary, postmodern literature- Lipsyte is very into precise witty description and doing clever things with dialog, so if you like that you'd like this.
That said, I also saw the Pillars of the Earth on tv here in Australia - llllloved it :)
Right now Im reading "The Black Prism" by Brent Weeks and its really good. Its the first in the Lightbringer Series that he's publishing. But if you want an awesome read, try out his "The Night Angel Trilogy". Book 1 is The Way of Shadows, Book 2 is Shadow's Edge and Book 3 is Beyond the Shadows. Its a great fantasy trilogy. And another author I REALLY LOVE is Karen Chance. You have got to try her Cassandra Palmer series! Its about vampires, faeries, werewolves, magic users. Really great reads!
Products used, please! You look so delicate and gorgeous with these colors! looks like charcoal on the lids and soft rose right above the crease, creating warmth and dimension! Loved it!
Hi Julia, I really highly recommend you to read 'The Pillars of the Earth'.

Really great reads!

you've got to read j.r. ward's black dagger brotherhood, best series I have ever read... You'll love it promise!
rotarydolphin 1 year ago
@rotarydolphin I've heard of that! Is it fantasy?
TheThirdShift 1 year ago
