from what I remember, there was a typhoon in the beginning of the movie. Since Godzilla is an aquatic monster, he must have been buried under all the sediment and stuff while napping in the bay or something. That's why he is supposingly rising from the ground

0:49 Godzilla appeared from the ground if i remember right this movie was right after Godzilla vs King Kong. At the end where Godzilla and Kong was fighting it caused a earth quake and to me that is how Godzilla ended up underground and Kong won the fight. I read one of the main reasons American distributors called the film Godzilla vs the Thing was that they thought the idea of G fighting a butterfly was too hard to sell, so they kept the identity of the adversary secret. the posters for it are great, with a giant question mark hiding something that looks like Cthulhu- "What is THE THING?!" I'm betting no one thought "Giant Moth!!!"

@thegreatspiderman I think James uses either a capture card or he records the footage directly onto another DVD. He then edits the footage together and records a narration. I'm not sure what program he uses, but VideoPad and Debut are good free pieces of software. Adobe is also really good.

The directing, costume, plot, and (if you consider the year this was made, and know that Toho's special effects were advanced at the time) the fights. There also is a nice scene where Godzilla walks through a UN Navy missile blast head on.
