  • idk about you guys... but kenichi the mightiest disciple bring me here...

  • what

  • youtube should have a slow motion feature...

  • absolutely beautifull

  • Hasegawa and Sato Sensei told me that my weapons should never dip when bowing,

It looks as if Uke allowed his weapons to tilt forward during the salutation towards the Kamiza at the end of the Kata.

  • ...if it doesn't work in it's basic form, then it will not work period. This is called enlightenment (Zatori) i.e. from a seated position (seiza position); This is what we should all strive for, be it Judo, Karatedo, Aikido, ART!

  • its NOT Zatori but Satori ;-)

  • OK, Satori...you say potatoe, I say...

    thanks for enlightening me! :/

  • i remember doing that in judo classes i was the only there on day and sensei made the some thing pronounced as reke and gave me a knife hand strike in my belly that hurt and i could not do bawl or any thing that was a hell of a day

  • 6.25 i said

  • This is perfectly performed by senior judoka at the kodakan, does it get any closer to the origins of the kata than that?

Every school has it's own take on this kata, which is a 3rd Dan Judo kata used to show the self defence elements of Judo, hence the striking etc.I've seen and done this kata slow and as on this clip with the kia,it's a club preference. If you break down each move there is some workable self defence techniques in it if you know how to how to apply them training under pressure

  • I find this kata intresting. I did judo when i was like 9-12 and this video made me wanna learn judo again.

I practice aikido right now and the detail of uke hiding the tanto in his gi is really something im gonna sugest to my sensei.

Is it Kodokan Judo in this clip?

  • yup...filmed AT the kodokan no less

  • @geting89 Yes, this is straight up Kodokan Judo kata.

  • @geting89 This kata is just for the 3rd Dan

  • @geting89 no, i think this is all Kime No Kata

  • @geting89 Yes, this is Kodokan Judo.

  • Why doesn't anyone have any comment on the way the kata is performed? I don't think it's too well, i'm not much of a budokai fan, it differs greatly in approach compared to the kodokan way

  • i think elnyka won the argument.. ya'll agree?? cheers

  • whatever whatever!

  • I don't give a fuck whatever this idiot elynka says!

  • If you don't then why have to state it? If didn't care, you would ignore it. But instead, like a fucking nutjob, you come and proclaim it to the four winds.

How does it feel to suffer from cognitive dissonance?

  • hahahhaah who's give a fuck about spelling you sound like a dumbass redneck, then go fucken become a english teacher!

  • blah blah blah, PakDaeHan can't think of a comeback so he goes off like a juvenile punk blah blah blah

Didn't you say you didn't care about anything I said? Why are you replying instead of ignoring then?

  • cuz you are so dumb enough to keep replying back to me I must be getting to you? ahahahhaah what a laugh! you are pathetic. and who give a fuck about spelling except you mr. perfect? my ass!

  • Didn't you say you didn't care about anything I said? Why are you replying instead of ignoring then?

  • elnyka is a fucken nut!

  • And you are getting more rabbid by the minute, little by little losing the ability to spell and write.

  • I don't give a fuck what youre blabbing about you fight to make a point, but to me it's all bullshit like youre crap.

  • You don't give a fuck, but you are still replying back :)

  • Sonny Chiba A GojuRyu karate man kicked a 4rth and 5th dan judoka's asses in less than 1 minute. judo is useless against a 5th dan Karateka.

  • Ah, and here you are again, the US ARMY RANGER obssesed since childhood with knife, incapable of moving away from this thread. Rar, rar, rar. Judo this, judo that. Rar rar rar.

You are so bent in making an argument against Judo because you need to make an argument to feel good about yourself.

You live for this mentally unstable crap, like a fly on a pile of shit, you cannot get away from it.

  • I don't give a fuck.

  • Interesting how all your verbal combativeness and internet aggression goes down to a little sentence when someone calls you on your obssessive-compulsive, craptacularly retarded behavior.

  • it is you who has retarded behavior and a fucken crappy cocky ass attitude.

  • And yes, you do give a fuck. Otherwise, you wouldn't have bothered to reply with the same sentence THREE TIMES.

    Fucking poser, fucking loser.

  • you're the one who is a looser who keeps replying back to me dumbass! you are a sore looser, and that is all you are a looser in your dumb fucken life, in fact you don't have a life.

  • no I don't give a fuck.

  • I don't make a argument in Judo but make a remark in how dumb you sound.

  • Dude, you have been coming to this video for the last two months, way before I even came here. And each and everytime you rant like a salivating baboon with a centipide crawling up its ass.

Each time you react with predictable, juvenile anger. You are my amusement, a source of imbecile commedy.

Thanks to you, the rest of us don't have to look further for stupid videos on youtube. We have you here telling us how much you don't care.

  • you make no fucken sense when replying to my comments and all you do is talk about insects? that's how small your brain is like a insect. and a monkey's ass.

  • Dude, you have been coming to this clip for the last two months to rant like a salivating baboon with a centipede crawling up your ass.

Each time your rant becomes less articulate, stupider and juvenile by the minute. You are my amusement, my source of imbecile comedy.

Thanks to you, I and everybody else do not need to search for people doing stupid shit on youtube. We have you and your comical bouts of maniacal anger.

  • fuck you your replies are boring and dull like your small ass.

  • Didn't you say you didn't care about anything I said? Why are you replying instead of ignoring then?

  • You don't train in anything. You don't do anything. All you do in your life is verbal-fu, talking about army rangers, knifes and shit that filled in your fantasies.

At this point, you will furiously be banging on the keyboard, one eye rotating independently of the other as you try in vain to reply back in an intelligent manner.

So fucking retarded it is that one must doubt you possess intelligence.

  • I don't give afuck.

  • Of course you don't. You can't. I can tell the same thing to a donkey or a fucking pineapple, and it cannot reply back.

It cannot care, it lacks the brain power to say so. Not only you are fucking nutcase, you are fucking stupid behond hope.

  • you are a punkass who has a big fucken stink mouth an dthink you are so fucken good in judo? what a laugh!

  • It is you who don't train in anything! and how the fuck do you know what I train in dumbass, you don't even know me, what a dumbfuck you are, nothing but a show off and a big mouth redneck.

  • You called me redneck???? BUWAYHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAH. Oh man, you made my day.

And you say I don't train??? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Please stop, you are going to run comedians out of business.

Yeah, sure, you don't give a fuck. It truly shows.

  • really I don't give a fuck what you are or are not all I know is you are a fucken nut!

  • it is you who don't train in anything but a cocky dumbass attitude and has something against Koreans don't you? you racist smartass!

  • Hahahahahha, I didn't even know you were Korean. I'm attacking you for being a dumbass. See, you are fucking nuts. You think everybody is against you.

  • no just you who is a nut! no one else, by the way your comments are so boring Im giving you thumbs down and reporting you as spam ahahahaha! looser.

  • I challenge you to find one single post where I've said something against Koreans. It is you who know I say I did because you are fucking mental, crazy, unstable.

You are so fucking mental that you will say anything as a way to reply back. You are the racist, not me, for calling me redneck in the first place. I'm not even Caucasian.

  • the knife attack is not practical at all! no martial artist especially escrima kali attacks with a straight knife thrust to the adomen, this is unethical and not at all usefull for self defense against someone who knows how to use a knife like me.

  • As my Aikido sensei says you have to start somewhere I view these kata as basic starting point. Krav Maga has similiar types of attacks in the beginning.

  • Your points are correct; however they are an oxymoron. Kime No Kata is more an instrument of cultural preservation than on actual self-defense. It is called "self-defense" because that's how it was labeled and thought so back in the 1880s.

  • OXYMORON MY ASS!

  • It is. As I told you, that kata is a relic, and it's only taugh, for historical purposes when you seek a 5th or 6th dan (meaning you are usually over your 30's and have had almost two decades of Judo training).

It's not taught to the general public, it's never been marketed as part of a self-defense curriculum, and it's only taught for ritualistic and historical purposes after many years, decades of Judo training.

That's why it's an oxymoron to say ZOMG, OH UNETHICAL!!!11

  • OXYMORON MY ASS.

  • Prove me that this is being taught by the Kodokan to the general public as part of an actual self-defense program instead of being an esotheric ritual expected only for high grade Judoka.

If you can, then you have a point and it is unethical. Until then, it's an oxymoron.

  • we don't need to prove to you nothing. US ARMY RANGERS RULE!!

  • In Judo, you are only required to know it as an esotherical requirement for your 5th and 6th dan (way into your training years), and it's never been marketed or thought to students as real self-defense, nor is it part of actual, everyday Judo training for anyone below 5th dan.

It is just a cultural aspect that happened to be called "self defense kata" for historical reasons. To call it unethical would require that it be taught and passed as real self defense. Learn some history buddy.

  • no you go learn.

  • yeah right you know how to use a knife, that's a laugh, everybody comes on here saying they know more than everyone else, it is so funny

  • then let me slice your belly up and see if you can take my knife away big mouth!!!

  • So basically you didn't read anything I said to the effect this kata is merely esotherical and it's not being passed as self-defense (thus rendering your "unethical" comment a mooth one)?

And instead you decided to act offended and take it as a challenge to your knife skills?

    Did I miss anything?

  • he's a dork, but you sound convinced that you know a lot, but I find, in fights they always become brawls with a lot of missed punches, that is good, but they are not pretty, like fights should be, I saw this guy in this Karate pose, knock out this other kid with one punch, it was awesome, but most fights are just so not like the movies, but still exciting to watch in person. I train in Budokai.

  • whatever?

  • you are an idiot, that would hurt like a bitch!!!

You should fight to disarm people not hurt them, when knives cause orgasms then I won't knock you out with one punch from one of my fists, you guess whether it is the right or the left.

    BUDOKAI FOREVER!!!!!!

  • I don't comprehend what the fuck you're blabbing about?

  • my point is, don't hurt people!!

  • you right!

  • yeah like I been obsessed with knives since a kid, and I really doubt if you can take it away from me since I've been into escrima khali for years, probally even longer that your age kid!

  • How does that has to do with anything I said about kime no kata as a historical relic with no applicable value in self defense?

You are good with knives. Good for you. I never claim to use a knife, so your rambling is unaplicable, incoherent and irrelevant.

You have been obsessed with knives since you were a kid. Fine. But you are not a kid anymore. You are 45. Act like it.

  • don't tell me how to act, you ain't my sensei, anyway you sound like you think you know everything? and have a very swell head, a typical redneck I should say.

  • Well, you call me racist while making generalizations? How does that work? Are your running out of valium?

  • no you are running out of your crap!

  • YOu don't need a sensei to know how to act!!!!

  • do you tink?

  • Some judo techniques, as with just about every Martial Art, aren't practical, but a lot are (but in judo, only if either your opponent is wearing a top that you can grip, or your club trains without them). Incidentally wasn't kime no kata added AFTER Jigoro Kano (founder of judo) died?

  • what bullcrap look more like a ceremony!

  • wow PakDaeHan finally a reponse I didn't have to utilize my vast decoding skills to understand..lol

yeah they may have alittle too much ceremony but Kano put that in there probably to discourage participation by Thugs, and since you find it distastefull, I will just put a small check in the "it worked" column.

  • If you love these guys so much then why don't you join their dojo?

  • Well there skippy if I lived in the same town I probably would be. See I live in a small town, so After I got sufficiently ranked in Judo I started a Dojo of my own.

  • well not even close to the kodokan? Im into judo and it is affected when I grab a hold of some punk ass and slam his ass to the ground, you see I can't use karate where I work? ahahahahah! uchimata and haraigoshi is my favorites!

  • Good for you????????

O-soto-gari and Tai-otoshi are my ultimo favorites.

  • well english is not my first language and I meant effective, using judo techniques in law efforcement, o-soto-gari and tai-otoshi I also use a lot at my job! and also those are my favorites.

  • whal bullcrap!

  • striking?yes, we trained striking extensively in the itf.judo as a sport is great but it needs to adapt itself as a defensive, offensive martial art to meet the dangers of todays enviroments.

  • What?????

Japanes traditionally sat like that. Yeah we "Westerners" don't but the techniques are valid.

  • so you think you are the devil well then do some magic and kick our asses?>lol

  • nah I don't think I am the devil.....Me thinking I was the devil would be like you thinking you were a knat.lol

  • ahahahah me think you are nothing>lol

  • good for you PakDaeHan nice to see you putting brain cells to work, but it matters not.

I still like the kata as do my judoka and it is the base of many self-defense techniques.

  • ahahahaha you have no brain cells there all dead like you karate! ahahahhaha

  • ES BASTANTE MALO

  • judo should teach striking that was part of their roots.

  • kilrkane, no, it should not. The atemi in Judo is subpar, and was never intended to be the most effective of all. It's important to understand the history and evolution of Japanese martial arts. Due to the usage of armor, striking was secondary and never refined or extended.

Judo is best at what it does, and a Judoka should crosstrain in other arts if he wants to train in striking.

  • i feel that sport judo is great but that judo should also teach students all aspects of martal arts as a form of self-defense.this could include the striking and submission techniques of ju-jitsu that have been deleted in favor of the sport style judo.judo always has room to grow.

  • striking? i know how to strike... do you? see, on training, it is just more simple (and safer) to forbid strikes. In real life, if you have an opponent on a good pin, you're just gonna strike the brain out of his skull. Believe me, no judoka is gonna wait for the referee to come and call victory.

  • Very good just came across it. Alot of people dismiss Kata as good for nothing...that is a bunch of bull..Kata teaches you alot of the basics of a particular situation..it is entirely up to you where you go from there.

  • "Judo in reality is not a mere sport or game. I regard it as a principle of life, art and science."-Jigoro Kano (Founder of Judo)

"Apply the way of Karate to all things. Therein lies its beauty."-Gichin Funakoshi (Founder of Shotokan/JKA)

  • As both a Karateka (Shotokan) and a Judoka, I can say they both have their disadvantages and advantages. As a martial arts and a way of self defense they both can be used effectively. The odds of actually needing to use the moves to defend yourself is very small anyway. And whats great about them is they both allow for adaptation and interpretation. Karate looked carefully does not limit itself only to strikes. Judo looked carefully does not limit itself to only throws.

    Stop Arguing over it

  • Arts like jujitsu or hapkido make use of everything (i.e. kicking/striking, grappling, throwing, pressure points, groundfighting etc.) BUT they never become as good in the various disciplines as specialized arts. Their strength is their great variety of techniques, meaning that they don't have real weaknesses and can fight under any condition, although their grappling is not as good as judo's and their strikes are not as good as taekwondo's.

  • This only means that a judoka and a taekwondoin use different approaches to winning a fight. The taekwondoin tries to attack from medium to long range, mainly using his legs. The judoka however tries to close in to throw his opponent. So the taekwondoin tries to knock his enemies out, the judoka might try to break his opponents arms for disabling him.

  • Ok first: Judo can be used for self defense. That it does not make use of kicking, striking and blocking does not mean it's useless! Judo is a specialized art like for example taekwondo. Whereas taekwondo only has got strikes and kicks, judo only has grappling, throwing and groundfighting, but so what?

  • According to who? Only someone who is ignorant would make a stupid statement like that.Judo was taken directly from two forms of ju jitsu. As for effectiveness of the techniques, and being a judoka myself, the moves are highly effective and can be lethal if executed in a precise manner.

  • lol - judo is for small ball people :D

  • Look at it this way...it is still far more effective than friggin taekwondo or modern karate/kempo/kungfu kata

  • Maaan! i have never seen such negative people who cant see any thing profitable. if you want to see whether these techniques are applicable go and attack one of them, most probably you will end up face down with a broken arm!

  • Kata is good to look at, but it's not practical in real life.

  • i totally disagree with you! it seems you dont practice your kata. if its not applicable that means martial arts is useless! Style up!

  • if thats what you have learned than u need a new teacher

  • - Oh yeah? How do you know? Experience, or just out of first impression? Do you actually know what you're talking about??

  • poor technique of execution.

  • Looks like "kodokan" Judo to me!

  • Goshin Jutsu includes gun defense... this is forms of decision, right? traditional self defense...

  • This Kata is actually Forms of Decision, Forms of Self Defense is Kodokan Goshin Jutsu Kata. This Kata is old methods preserved for future students to master. Regarding Funakoshi he developed a Kata with Kano Shihan at the Kodokan called Go No Kata Forms of Stength. Enjoy

  • This is quite similar to a way that Funakoshi Sensei had his students train. This looks a lot like some traditional karate training.

  • (sorry about the second post) What exactly does this kata achieve? Is it solely a means to display techniques, or is this how techniquese are trained?

  • Kata are generally used to display techniques and you have to do them when you test for black belts (and 1st degree brown belt I believe). I don't know of any schools that actually make you learn techniques with Kata. In my school we learn the techniques against a non-resisting partner and then we start sparring near the end of class.

  • That is not correct. Katas are the main body for forming the foundation for any martial art. It is like taking an element out of combat and arranging it in a way that all can practice safely.

Unfortunately, because of the mind set of most judoka, kata HAS become something that you have to do only because you won't get you black belt if you don't.

  • I am not entirely sure what I am seeing (forgive my ignorance). Why were the intially techniques performed from a kneeling position?

  • It comes from when samuris would kneel and would have to be able to defend themselves from that position.

  • @ Aces isn't that Ju-Jutsu? i don't really have an idea about Goshin-Jutsu, but your describtion sounded like Ju-Jutsu. :P

  • to be fair to u judo came from jujitsu

  • You got that backwards.

  • Pardon my ignorance but isn't Goshin Jutsu the Judo forms of self defense?

  • I like the bollock punch!

  • A truly beautiful video to watch, true craftsmen.
