@Hilaryno1 Yeah it would have, but it would have made things to complicated. Doug and Carol knowing that the kidney went to Carter makes it look like they coerced the grandmother into pulling the plug on her grandson in order to get their friend a life saving organ. This makes it more special, long lost friends unknowingly save a former colleague's life by being honest and sympathetic treatment to the issues of this grandmother.
I LOVED this episode. The two things that I wish had happened were 1. getting to see Tess and Kate and 2. Carol and Doug finding out that the kidney went to Carter. I loved the Carter/Benton scenes in this ep almost as much as the Carol/Doug ones.
There just Amazing, i LOVE thier chemistry, was so upset when they left, their my OTP on ER along with Ray and Neela, the only thing that bugged me was when Carol said " the kidney went to SOME doctor", it was not SOME doctor, it was CARTER!!!!
Oh man, George keeps being so hot! Doug Ross is the sexiest Dr. ever! Look at him! A lot of years since his last appearance and he's still sexy! Thumb up if you agree!
Those have the best chemistry in ER. I was saddened when Doug departed, leaving Carol behind, but was releived to see Carol coming to her senses and came back to Doug at that beautiful house in the lake.
I just wished that Jack Bauer and Renee Walker on 24 have a happy ending like Doug and Carol did, but it never happened.
Also, it would've been better if they showed their twin daughters, Tess and Kate, in that episode, since they we're 9-years-old when this episode aired.
Btw, thanks so much for uploading and sharing a clear copy of the video. I kinda lost touch with ER since Mark & Susan's train episode or Carol's wedding episode -- not even sure if she was about to marry Doug then-- but I had an idea that they're going to end up together, and they did. With these stars showing up on the last episode of the show -- only meant how grateful and appreciative they were to be part of it. So far, the best medical drama series aired on TV.
btw, thanks so much for sharing and uploading a clear video. :) I've lost touch with ER since the time Mark & Susan's train episode & I think Carol's "wedding" scene -- I'm not even sure if she was about to marry Doug then, but had the idea they're going to end up together. :)
I'm so glad ER didn't ruin the following of this show's lovely couple, even gave them the best kind of ending these characters deserved. ;) Grey's Anatomy should learn from this show... Clooney's one grateful, great actor. =) Though I really liked Mark & Susan to be together, it's good enough that this show was consistent enough with Doug & Carol.... Yay!!!
i wished they knew it was carter 2 bcause they both knew and liked carter they would have been o no carter needs a transplant and then b happy when he got 1. how come doug didn't ask about carter or y didn't sam or the other 1 mention carter they talked about other people but they couldn't mention carter
This was the best. I've missed the Carol/Doug magic since they left the show, and this proves that not an ounce of chemistry was lost in their nine-year absence!!! Thank you so much!!!
The writers of ER were brilliant, from the very first episode to the very last episode. They really did an amazing job in the final season, tying all the previous seasons and actors together somehow, bringing them back......that's a hard thing to beat.
I'd say George got Susan to appear in ER as a favour!! Hollywood buddies, I think the reason why they didn't know it was Carter doctor/patient/hospital confidentiality......Least we all know Doug and Carol lived happy ever after with there twins. And that wedding ring best couple ever on any drama so comfortable with each other. ......wouldn't ming being Carol at the end!!!
ya i know what you mean. It just sorta kept ER in that suspensful kind of way... its the way ER always was so i guess that its good they didnt find out...they kept some of the old ER in it
I haven't watched the show in years but I had 2 tune in 4 Doug and Carol's return...they are made 4 each other and it was so satisying 2 see that they lived happily ever after...and got married!!! =)...I'm going 2 miss the show too...didn't realize how much until the finale...
I totally agree,it's like he has been Dr Ross all this time. And no,it wasn't a mistake to add Susan Sarandon to this story, the scene where she finally gives concent is heartbreaking, she shows us her pain with a tender, subdue performance. BRAVA!
Love this episode. I'm just disappointed that they weren't on the finale. Furthermore, their characters have left-out storylines that still writers did not even resolved.
It's just too bad that Ross and Hathaway still have resentment to Weaver and County General and this shouldv'e been a great plot for the final episode.
This is why George Clooney is one of my favorite actors! He didn't forget the ER made him a household name & I'm so glad that he decided to come back along with Julianna to show us Doug & Carol did make it. And kudos to the writers for tying in their story nicely... it didn't seem completely random for them to be involved in the story again. This was an amazing episode. Great job by Susan, George & Julianna in this scene.
Susan Sarandon is brilliant in this episode. George Clooney picks up right where he left off with Doug Ross. Bravo to all involved with this brilliant series over the past 15 yrs.
Yeah! But does anyone else think it was a mistake to have such a high profile guest star as Susan Sarandon on the same time as Clooney? Seems like it took some of the impact of Doug and Carol's return away.
I like that Susan Sarandon is in it. Otherwise I would be watching and thinking that is George Clooney as Doug Ross, instead it just seems like Doug Ross is back in it, not George Clooney. Silly maybe, but it worked for me.
wonderful to see Clooney back in Sexy Dr. Mode.. *Thud* He looks great Sexy George and Lovely Julianna back together on the small screen simply Magic... even the final scene when they are in bed I was kinda jealous of Julianna being there with George. *Thud*
Omg... i just loved it! Carol and Doug are the best TV couple ever!!! It's like they never left!! Julianna and George are the best!! I'm sooooo gonna miss this!
ps: they got married! They're both wearing rings :)
Oh my god!! Now I realize how much I missed them, George Clooney and Julianna Margulies have definetly not forgotten about their characters it's like they never left!! I wish they would be in one more episode, I missed their theme!!
they are one "tv couple" that should definitely be married in real life..

Clooney can be a little pompous sometimes but you have to say he NEVER forgets the debt of gratitude he owes to this show.

Anyone else noticed the music when they're in bed? It's the music from earlier seasons, a sort of doug/carol music track

This episode reminds me of the beginning of season 5. When Doug and Carol were like the dynamic duo and was always finishing each other sentences.

What would have made that last scene even more special is if they found out that the kidney went to Carter.
