The music industry today is just gone to the dogs...what they call excellence by today's standards is not as good as even what was a avg group back in the 70s. It don't take no talent to show off your body parts and sing about doing a hoe or the junk she got in her trunk. Some of them are even singing about demons possessing their bodies and how they sold their souls to the devil for fortune and fame. Music today is twisted....there are just a few good ones and even their music can't touch this.
Okay, here's one for you. Recently Wilbert Hart performed "Didn't I Blow Your Mind" on a PBS "My Music" fund-raising special, and the hostess who introduced him, actress Vivica Fox, didn't even bother to mention that Hart was one of the Delfonics. In the 60's, the identities of individual members of a group were kept under wraps because the labels wanted you to identify with the GROUP! If I hadn't recognized the song I wouldn't have known who Hart was. Come on, Vivica, give us a clue!
So here we are in 2011,There have been some decent stuff out recently with amazing tallent,,SWV,Jane Child,The "New jack Swing" style of the 90's,,which I like very much even at my 47 years old.But the delphonics,,stylistics,Junior walker, Jay and the techniques,Tony clarke, will never become again. Thank God you and me have Youtube to bring them back. You have good class dude !! Spread it around and tell your friends,,buy some CD's of Philly Soul,,some 600 Watt amps,,and Rock the house !!
Nando90210,,,I remember when this came out,,I was "5" years old,,how about that impression on a life of a "5" year old kid !! Your question as to what has happened to music like this today? Times have changed obviously.the songwriters like Gamble & Huff have retired with thier money.Thier songs and the unbelievable majic to put the right groups with the songs came and went. I remember when Philly Soul was all over AM radio in 70,71,72,73,,and we didn't know what was coming.Shame on us !!
The Delphonics are one of the greatest vocal groups of all time. While some groups of the 70's were just stumbling upon arrangements by chance, these guys were painstakingly and masterfully blending sophisticated harmonies and intricate orchestrations together to make music on par with the classics of classical music. The Stylistics, the Delphonics, Blue Magic and music producer Thom Bell are all manufacturers and architects of this classy sophisticated soul.
Shiiiiiit! My generation's songs WERE THE SHIT, YEAH! That's right...tell ya Mama & Nem!! ;-) Didn't I Blow your mind actually came out in the 1960's to be exact. I recall because I was in my 15th year of life. Just sayin'.

@nando90210 I was also 12 in 1987 and I'm totally with ya on this one. Mainstream music in my opinion started to go to shit starting in the mid 90's and the only satisfaction I get now is by trying to find good underground music and a lot of it is pretty damn good. Just depends on what you're in too. All this ol skool soul is absolutley incredible!!!
@nando90210 You can blame sampling and the lack of Music programs in schools INHO. Kids dont have the desire to learn to play an instrument, and without the desire there is no way someone is going to have the discipline to woodshed hours a day learning scales, modes, chords etc.. Also the political atmosphere in this country has no tolerance for funding the Arts, Schools have no music programs anymore, Community centers cant afford to have music instruction. All we have is Itunes now.
@dcrasta blame sampling? really? fair enough blame sampling in a pop setting. but true hip-hop beatmakers sampling these songs is what keeps kids interested in jazz and soul. most of these records would been lost in the dust if it weren't for a reworking every few years. and that's a fact but you can definitely blame the lack of support from the government when it comes to music education, and the record labels idea of a "hit song".
@FreshFruitInc Ya man. I blame sampling for demotivating the individuals that would likely have paid their dues in blood sweat tears and time to learn an instrument. Its 'music making on easy mode'. Same way people will microwave or run to mcdonalds before they will learn to use an oven. As far as records being lost in dust, no man, not at all, the music would have been better preserved because half the 'hip-hop' fans have no interest in where the samples originated from.
@freshfruitinc Oh and Pop Music has been around a long time. Difference is now you can imitate someone by sampling them, you dont have to learn 'how they did it'. This eliminates the 'demonstration of skill' that makes live music (And 'real music' in general) such a compelling art form. Is there skill in sampling and arranging? Sure. But as a musician I have less respect for the guy that sampled the music than I do for the one that composed and played the music. Peace out!
@dcrasta i see what you're saying. i just have a certain few artists in mind that don't do the kind of "lazy" sampling you're thinking of. although i agree that is fucked up, don't think for a second i'm defending "artists" like the black eyed peas, who will sing a hook from a famous song just because it makes their own song more recognisable. that's just a marketing technique in my own opinion. peace.
@nando90210 Lol unfortunately it doesn't exist anymore. See this is back in the day when groups had little things like rhythm and melody. I'm 34 and I definitely know where you're coming from. The Delfonics ROCK!

My heart goes out to you at this most trying time love him with all you have and pray that the doctors can help My love to you both
@Emma16C Wow ur dad died just recently. Im so sorry to hear that. I've heard that a lot of people will be dieing by next year from cancer. The water we r drinkin has a lot of chemicals that leads to cancer. Also the food we eat contains harmful chemical such as Aspartame, which is in ur candy. It's best if u can make ur own lotion, soap etc..ur dad died becuz of what he's been eating nd using on his skin. of course these food company wont tel u becuz they out 2 make$. Go natural and oass it down
Thank you for your support. He had his first time chemo treatment last week and i have not heard from him since. Ido speak with his nurse however, he is sick. Nothing has ever made me so sick. i just recently watched Jackie Brown and this song was iin it. Good movie! Another song we always listened to was" Sorry seems to be the hardest word" be Elton John. listen to it. great song
this song totally reminds me of this guy dean i new since i was 15, he was 18. we loved each other so much. at that young age i still new it was. eventually we reunited 23 years later and come to fight out he lives 8 streets away! now he has cancer and i'm also very ill. but i'm so thankful we reconnected and so is he! please pray for him. 4-23-2011

a true lover of music would want others to experience the beauty and emotion in songs regardless how they find it...there is no REAL music fan or fake...either you love a song/artist or you don't...put the lid back on that hatorade..it's not doing anyone any good
It's true that Jackie Brown got me into Delfonics. I felt just like the cop the first time I heard it. I made a cd with nothing but Delfonics and other good motown
One of the most elegant songs of its era. Groups such as this one ( The Delfonics ) and others made music for lovers and to be loved by. I'm still stuck in the 70's.
I had the pleasure of spending time with William Hart and his beautiful wife Sheila...I hope there doing great. We went to see B.B. King in Atlantic City back in the 70's
Man...it doesn't get much better!!! I love this group just as much now as when I was in my teens!!! Great to hear them again AND in one of my FAVORITE movies...Jackie Brown!!!
im 21 and the delfonics are my favorite old skool group. my favorite song from them is ready or not here i come and tryna make a fool of me. thanks for posting
One of the best slow jams ever i am stuck in time warp The Delfonics Stylistics Blue Magic Chi-Lites Dramatics Ray Goodman And Brown to name a few Its all I listen to and I'm ok with it I don't care what anyone says they just don't mak e music like this anymore so I feel very lucky
I'm a 45 yr old white guy. THIS is beautiful music, I really appreciate how these gentlemen sing. I love todays music but you do not hear songs like this.
Sparwood8 is right. We get old so fast. Enjoy every minute people. Peace.
The summer of 1971. Nice and hot and the beaches were packed all June Jul and Aug. Babes everywhere.. Ahh we get old so doggoned fast.. and I mean FAST

a true lover of music would want others to experience the beauty and emotion in songs regardless how they find it...there is no REAL music fan or fake...either you love a song/artist or you don't...put the lid back on that hatorade..it's not doing anyone any good

@retoryx Wow, way to be a pretentious asshole. It doesn't matter how you find the music, if you enjoy it you're just as much a fan as anyone else.

One of the most elegant songs of its era. Groups such as this one ( The Delfonics ) and others made music for lovers and to be loved by. I'm still stuck in the 70's.
