  • Cute, you should have seen the eyes of my cat x)

  • Wow! that is one big rat...but CUTE though.

  • I actually have a normal (as in non-giant pouched) fancy rat that does this same thing now. It's not NEARLY as loud--I can just barely hear it at arm's length--but the cadence, general tonality, and event-driven nature of it is pretty much the same. Even more so, she's not just naturally deep-voiced; she only does it during social interactions with me. Of the 21 rats I've owned throughout my life, Blob is the only one who has done that.

  • cutest thing ever!!

  • Men gud vad gulligt.

  • that was attractive jk jk thats so cute

  • This is not tolking this is wysoling

  • Only problem with owning a rat is they can attract wild rats to your house. I know. We used to have one and it happened. Rats got under the house.

  • we have a reg size ratty named bink (vincent prices nickname so his formal name is vincent) we loves him

  • give him a kiss from me.

  • wow! he is a yapper! my rats and mice used to make all kinds of those squeaking noises. cutie pie :)

  • How soft do it feels to touch??

  • lol cute

  • aaw, she's like the siamese cat of rodents. XD

  • How do you know what kind of rat he is?

  • LOL. My pet norway rat was sitting here listening attentively.

    What a squeaker!

  • Im terrified of this creatures

  • @MaryTully me neither

  • cool it has a two tone tail

  • What a noisy little squeaker! So cute!

  • I have only three at the moment; just lost one older girl to congestive heart failure. She was put on heart meds but she just went downhill fast in two days and died in her sleep. The best way to go, really. I hate taking them in to be put to sleep :( I'm lucky to have a great vet in Seattle though.

  • I want one. I'm looking forward to buying one. But considering the size. Can they be aggressive with other animals? I read that males are very territorial.

I have one medium male rat and a female ferret. My ferret dislikes rats with the passion. haha So they never interact in any way possible except trough her cage lol

  • Domestic rats are social animals; you should keep more than one lone male so they have company. And of course you can't put a Pouched Rat in with a domestic rat!! Maybe you need to read a little on the rat you already have?

Your ferret doesn't "dislike" rats--the rat is a food item to the ferret.

  • Ah, i know.

I wouldn't have put them together, and I'm not really planning on getting one.

I was also wrong. My ferret loves my rat, but since she likes to play aggressive I don't let them be together. I only let her clean him but anything other than that, they are separate.

I know rats need company, but at the moment he can't have a buddy. I bought him when he was sick, they were going to put him down, but i took him in and paid the money. Vet recommended not to get a friend for a while.

  • sorry for coming off snotty. yeah, sometimes that happens and one has to live alone. You are very nice to adopt him. All of my rats are rescues too. That's cute that your ferret cleans your rattie :)

I think all of us rat keepers want a pouchie!

  • No, it's ok.

    You weren't snotty at all.

I mean eventually I plan on getting him a mate.

But that's when he fully recovers.

    Yeah, it's cute.

But it sacred me the first time I saw them together. I accidentally forgot to close his cage he got out I caught them cuddling and momo cleaning him.

haha I freaked at first I was like no she's tasting him. but no it was just bonding time.

How many rats do you have?

  • thats awesome they lifted the ban! i want one soo bad :D

  • Umm... correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems shes building a nest, and the squeaking is coming from her babies.

  • She is building a sleepnest, but she doesn't have any babies :) The squeaking is from her

  • They sound very similar to guinea pigs

  • if you live in the states they lifted the ban on them, i myself am looking for one too i just cant find any yet

  • Oh, I didn't know they had lifted the ban! That's great! :D

Have you looked for forums about giant rats or ecotic animals? It's a good way to come in contact with breeders

  • So am I. I'm gonna start looking online

  • Is this a common thing for giant pouched rats to do? I can't find any other videos of it.

  • No, I don't think so. I've talked to other people who also has these rats, and have had them in a long time, and they never heard it either :)

  • I love rats.. I'm amazed by these pouched rats. Never heard of them until about 5 minutes ago. Amazing!
