I agree, Diana Ross should have on the Oscar in 1972. I would have like for the Academy to provide the voite count, but they never will. Liza won because her mother never did. Both were good performances, but Ross, being that it was her first acting role, edge out IMO.
everytime i see this it reminds me of how pissed we all were the night Caberet won everything and Lisa beat out Diana for best actress....still makes me mad, although i now see that Caberet was a good movie, but Lady Sings The Blues was so good....should have won......
Arguing about who's better in 'My Man' brings on only stupid divisions. The music is great if it makes you fell alright. No matter whether it's sung by Diana, Barbra or Billie.
because her greatest hits were poppish we forget that she really has an amazing, unique voice... this song really showcases her talents. And she looks gorgeous!
whitney and diana are in another level, i know there´s barbra, there´s dionne, gladys, patti, aretha, celiene etc... but those ladys, have something really special on her voices...
My sister had the album that they made from this show at Caesar's, we played it for years. I remember thinking she was a wonderful entertainer and I don't think we're really going to see the likes of Diane again.
Dianas vesion is better than Babs. More conviction and soul.I remember watching this in 1981 when it aired the same day as Charles and Di got married.
Barbra and Diana are performers with different styles but people forget one thing-Diana portrayed the life of lady day in the movie Lady sings the Blues, there-fore the soundtrack of the movie is burned and engraved in Diana's heart, and she has something that barbra lacks-soul, ok she has soul, and besides you never see barbra crying like that singing, those are pure and honest feelings you just cant fake pain like that only God knows what was happening in her life at the momentcharly-ponce pr
I always find it funny how people that dont like a certain artist will take time out of their day to sit down and think hard about that particular artist and then take out some more time to put those negative thoughts into prose/script/words, or whatever you want to call it. Diana and Barbara (First of all I dont know how or why they are being compared) are both great in their respective ways.
bitch.. shut the fuck -up..Diana own this song.. barbra is boring...she has changrd since funny girl.. most singers make the transition.. she's stuck..sang la davina..
Anjoel, I could have a lot of vocal power too if, say, I was to ram a steak knife through my eye socket. Grace, stage presence and raw emotion are far more important and difficult to achieve, something ol' Babs should have spent a little more time practicing! Anyhoo, another superb performance by the Greatest of the Greats.
I guess if by "great" you mean mediocre! But being a pretty drunk is not the same thing as having a great voice. I guess you like Beyonce, Britney, and all the other "product" celebrities who are famous for being pretty. Barbra isn't "pretty" but take a look at her singing this same song and then we can talk. And correction: Anyone can become graceful. Anyone can be taught stage presence. And everyone posesses raw emotion. Few have a truely remarkable voice. Word bitch!
You should have uploaded "I Ain't Been Licked" from the point of stage black and band starts to play when she runs out onto the stage. THAT is a great performance and she looks HOT AS HELL!
Peak Diana (1979-1980). This is from my favorite televised concert: Live at Caesar's Palace for HBO (1979). Just a beautiful performance!!! Blessings to this sensitive, lovely woman!
