I had my subs ported then sealed. and i felt a big difference that sealed it has a bigger bang than ported.

@anchor213 Go sealed. It will play deeper notes that you can feel. Ported would be louder but in a sealed trunk, you would hear more of the trunk rattling than the speakers unless your back seats let down. Ive learned from experience, not from any of these guys that claim to know it all! Aamof, my trunk rattled more with the sealed box and I felt the bass thru my seats.

@subzeroskyline why are you lying to that guy? Ported enclosures do not hit lows well AT ALL! It is a known fact. It would be louder for cars like suvs, hatchbacks, and two door vehicles but in a sealed trunk it would sound like crap! Then why go thru all of that work tuning a box and spending extra money? True ported is louder but the sq is crap. I dont play my music for everyone to hear. You can get high spl with a sealed box. Just saying.

@anchor213 ported will not only be louder....but it will be deeper....thus hitting the super lows....just tune your box low for your liking if your going ported.

get some type r 12s from alpine or some rockfords but definitely get a hifonics amp or power akoustics not xplods they are cheep but not good oh and ported is louder thats just common since like when you roll your windows down it will be louder cause the pressure from the air is escaping look at smd stuff too steave meade is a beast

if you keep it sealed u will get higher db # and better lows with the 10 inch...if it is pored you willhave trouble controlling the lower freq.

Lol dude you said based on results it was deeper sealed? Then the box you were testing ported must had been one f***** up enclosure because statistically ported hits deeper since it can be tuned at a lower freuquency, the pressure can also escape at a certain rate from the enclosure boosting the SPL in the vehicle aswel.

what kind of car do you have this in? also does your speakers set off alarms? i have the same subs (2 of them) but in a box with plexy glass and four ports, then i have a Dub speaker sealed, The box is big but the Dub sounds good. My amp is 2000watts, rms is 500.

is this a joke?... sealed boxes are supposed to be made small, around 1.0 cubic... you can't cover up the port on a 2.0 ported and think it will perform like that in a true sealed box.... sealed is by far more accurate, but you wouldn't be able to tell by putting a trash bag in front of it...

Hey man. Some subs are better ported( soundstream T4s-T5s). I use to own 2 of em (soundstream T4s) and it sounded like shit in a sealed enclosure. I think personally if the subs have a small rms rating like your sonys then stick with a sealed box for best performance but if they need alota power to make em bang then definitely ported

In all honesty, I think sealed is the way to go for anything below 15".

It is not that much of a difference unless you have a one 15" or more... depending obviously.

Too much distortion comes out of the box... I think that it might even damage hearing when it is ported because of the minor distortion turned up to loud volumes
