@boxkick9 Yep. The crossbar is higher, the uprights are narrower, and you have 11 large, fast, angry men working to stuff the ball in your face, requiring you get the ball 10 feet in the air within the first 5.5 yards. Oh, and we don't get the luxury of taking a kickoff run at the ball ... just three quick steps.
I'm a kiwi, but I have to give props to Francois Steyn's boot. I've never seen anybody kick the ball further than him. The kid must have steriods in his toes or something. I can't wait to see him back for the Boks, even though he'll make it harder for my AB side to beat them.
57 m kick at goal is impressive. But no way near as impressive as Pual Thorburn's kick with the old heavy ball of the 80s. Plus Thorburn didnt have a tee either....amazing power!.
@MBAXMAN93 Your an idiot, i never said he wasn't a good kicker did i? I said he scores less than half of those 50+ shots. Also, i watched that game live nob. haha you lose, ignorant South African faggot.
they give Steyn the same hype before every single 50+ metre place kick he does, The annoying thing is he scores about these 1 in every 5 attempts......
Sebastian Janikowski cant kick as far or as acurately as Francois Steyn. Sebastian's longest successful field goal is only 55m (61 yards). Francois can kick a larger, heavier and less aerodynamic rugby ball over 80m (88 yards) on the fly and has successfully kicked many field goals at 62m (68 yards) and further.
boks are the only team to beat the all blacks 3 times in a row in years ,dont know what crap team you support ,you just jealous ,cause you aint won fuck all ,cocksucker ..

every time ireland do a tour to southern hemisphere , they get fucked over like a week village team .they should stay in that 2nd grade 6 nations shit wher they belong
Paul Thorburns was the same distance, with a leather ball and in the northen hemisphere, so the ball travells an average of 10 metres less. suck out francois
jenki72, you missed out, mate. It wasn't just his kicks, although that's what everyone focused on, the boy played out of his skin. Racing Metro are getting the hottest property in world rugby right now, no doubt.
damn with francois and morne the springboks are gonna do massive damage (almost unfair really you get a penalty in your own half thats three points to south africa)
in realtation to thorbz123 if your uncle placed such a record kick why didnt he become a star to whatever national team he was from and why isnt it in the records
There's really no need to parade that your "uncle" 's kick is "better" than Steyn's. I have seen it and it is impressive. Is there really any doubt that a super talent such as Steyn has a long way to go to beat his record?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
mate :L shut it u twat , my uncle kicked his kick 15 years ago , they didnt have the pro boots , or the special designed balls, you are making yourself sound very stupid comparing the air density of durban to scotland :L , u twat
@thorbz123 - twat. If Paul Thorburn is really your uncle, then you'd probably know that the 70m kick wasn't 15 years ago, it was in 1986, and that it was at the Arms Park, not Edinburgh.
what??? one meter.... In durban a 59meter kick are just as long as a 69meter kick anywhere else.. Because the air is denser the ball doesn't travel as far and there was a small breeze coming from the front... that pretty much adds another 2 meters. If it was in the highveld...at loftus.. or ellis park, the 59m kick could just as well between 45- 49m. because the air is thin in the highveld but it is not. so that kick was better than your "uncle's" record although the books says otherwise
A couple of things about that were extra impressive. It was towards the end of the game, and it was not at altitude. P.S. good to hear the commentators call the stadium Kings Park, and not the ABSA stadium, which is terrible.
True. I remember, against the Springboks. I've recorded this play for that super penalty. The commentators explained that the altitude counts much for the flight of the ball. But Thorburn is still the greatest for me.

What is altitude, then? Where I live, I'm 100m above sea level. Does that count as altitude or are we talking in thousands of metres?
I reckon I can kick at least 50m in a DROP GOAL only on a training pitch - I'll film it actually and see what happens.

Sebastian Janikowski
Height: 6 ft 2 in
Weight: 250 lb
François Steyn

The main difference is that François is actually pretty fit and toned whereas Sebastian is more puddy and carrying a bit more baby fat.
