I have finished this arcade game at the café close to our school at around 1991 as I recall. I do recall that I had to stand there for 1 hour and 15 minutes when I eventually managed to finish it, so the time of this video should be correct.

Each level had it's own hidden icons, we were a group of guys playing the game, so we would compare and share the locations of these hidden icons for each level amongst ourselves. The advantage in getting all of the dolls and stuff was to get free men.

it s not only that you finish the game without loosing a life.i suppose you can do that(of course it s extremely difficult to succeed this)but how the hell you knew all the hidden dolls???i m just thinking loudly...

Thanks so much for uploading this. 'Wonder Boy' is my all-time favourite arcade game; incredibly addictive! You have serious skills - great playing. I used to play this at a service station near my high school, both before and after school (and maybe even sometimes during?!). I played it so much that I was given the nickname 'Wonder Boy' at school!

Your energy consumes very slowly. It won't consume that slow even in the easiest level of the arcade version. There are levels which their difficulty is exactly about not running out of energy.

im 40 and i remember getting well over 1 million. there was one stage i could never pass though. the clouds. the gap (vertical) was so big there was no way to get onto the one above it.

I wish the Sega home version graphics and sound were up to this level. Playing the arcade version looks and sounds better. I used to play the arcade version. When I played the home version, I was disappointed. It seemed so cheesy. Kind of like a fake Rolex....

WestOne, the developer of this and its clone, Adventure Island, weren't the only ones that WestOne created for Sega, then recycled for Hudson. WestOne also created Riot City for Sega, then recycled it as Riot Zone (known in Japan as Crest of Wolf) for Hudson.

Seeing how Wonder Boy was actually almost the same game as in the Adventure Island series I searched a bit in Wikipedia and what I found there was quite interesting: it appears Sega, publishers of Wonder Boy, retained the rights to the game's name and characters but everything else went to the hands of Westone, the developer. Westone then worked with Hudson Soft and the Adventure Island series were born, series which became even more popular than the Wonder Boy games themselves. ^_^

The concept looks pretty simple and yet I bet the game is insanely hard, how could you put yourself in such torture?! Even with saved states and re-recording I bet there were times when you were about to go nuts, I don't blame you if you needed therapy after doing this playthrough. :'D And to make matters worse, the game is easily three times longer than what it should have been, you must play the exact same levels over and over again.

My longplay shows all levels, all dolls, all letters and maybe 95% of the fruits. I invested a lot of my spare time for this longplay, to show good gameplay and the best possible picture quality on youtube and for download on our website.
