  • could you also just jump start the psu with for example a paperclip and then just use that power for example fans so you could have more power for a gpu?

  • omg.cable management nightmare!!

  • Solder, don't splice.

  • lol if there is no smoke it worked :P

  • Eifel 65 Lmao awesome

  • talk about frankenbox

  • Or you could buy a more powerful power supply.

  • Is it possible to mix 20 and 24 pin PSU's?

  • @Blackouti386 yea

  • this is what i am looking for 2psu paralleled but can you make a video using it on car amp ,please ,,,, thanks!

  • why would i ever need 2 power supplies?i can buy a single, more powerful one if i ever need it

  • @bestfolder yes, your momy and daddy can buy you stuff

  • So lets say I may need a bit more juice to run my hardware, can I use the two PS's to add enough power to sustain my hardware ?

  • @GamerFollower

It does not matter what the wattage is any psu can be weird into another

  • Can I connect a 300W PSU to a 250W PSU?

  • @GamerFollower Yes you can.

  • I think you shoudl connect the grounds together as well so its more like a single supply.

  • is this safe? are they both the same psu?

  • shouldnt your username be like.. construct electronics or something?

  • this i have an old 185 watt delta i might put in just to power lights and junk

  • Why not just get a case with redundant supplies, or get a single supply that can handle the load.

  • @rhblakeman because alot of ppl have plenty of room in there case and also have an old power supply laying around why not just get some sleeving throw on it put it in and save some money

  • @572dwayne Doing it the way presented here is just asking for a fire that no insurance company will cover damages from is why you don't want to do it like that. But it's your home or business and your equipment so have fun. When you blow things or have a fire you will see that you didn't save anything. 500W brand new PSUs are dirt cheap.

  • @rhblakeman thats why u jump start it instead of connecting them together u can just turn it on and off when ever your not using the lights or cathodes

  • @572dwayne Have at it...I have more time doing this stuff than you've been alive.

  • You need to connect the green and a black wires together to the same color wires on your other psu. Or you can go to FrozenCPU(dot)com/products/5637/cpa-167/Lian-Li_Dual_Power_Supply_Adapter_Cable.html and get a ready made adapter to connect both PSUs together.

  • can you connect the 2nd psu to any component you want, because i want to buy another videocard and connect the 2nd psu to that one? does it matter if they are not the same model with the same power? last question, do you still have 2psu-s and have you ever had a problem with it

  • @pedinoway2 yes

  • @pedinoway2 i wouldnt do that, unless the powersupplies were exactly the same, i mean exactly the same. because what can happen is that the different voltages and current from the supplies can short circuit the rest of your components since they are all conected electrically. i would only use the second powersupply for cd drives and cooling fans

  • hey dumbass at least cover your bare wires moron you can short out the whole thing

  • @kmmc1037 hey dumbass turn your sound up and listen to how he says to use electrical tape to cover the bear wires

  • it doesnt work that way if you have a vid card that needs 30 amps on the 12v rail side and one of those supplys dont have it your not gonna do anything to help it

  • so i could connect a 1500 watt psu to a 650 watt psu

  • could i connect a 1500 watt psu with a 680 psu

  • Or buy a modular psu, and get the needed cables, drill the holes and just have to switch both switchs on @ the same time.

  • nice vid man! great help, idk why more people dont do this, i mean people that bought generic computer that feel like buying a graphics card can buy a cheap 250watt power supply from ebay for similar, (newegg has 480watt for $15) instead some people buy like $80 for 200watts more rofl!

  • how many watts each?

  • Hi,,,,

    The 2 power supplies tha u hv connected r they of same kind....i mean ,,, i have 1 ps of 400 W n Other of 300 W cn i connect them,,,, N thier voltage r also nt same !

  • @Az00799 u can use whatever you like... ive used 3 power supplies in one computer. one was an okia 550watt, a logisys 480watt, and a server power supply 180watt, to run gtx 260 sli hahahaha but was my freinds which later bought a proper 850watt psu. but hey 550+480+180=1210 watts which is amazing hahahaha btw all those powersupplies where cheap generic crap power supplies

  • @neonzion7 Thnx Budy,,,, Buh,,, The Computer person said thats In possible,,, And I would burn,,, My pci slot,,,if I use two Different power supplies with different Ampere,,,, What u say about this bro,,,???... I hv 1 with 300 Watts N other of 400 W

  • @Az00799 rofl no, the power supplies will not share anything.... they will not share volts, watts, amps nothing.... they are 2 seperate units.... right now as im talking to u i am running a 550watt power supply with a 250watt power supply powering my graphics card, there is no problem and idk who told u such a lie

  • troll

  • i just made a quick switch system to turn the second one on. Doing this is kind of risky bc of the free hanging wires left in your case, that may rub and ground on something. if you take the green wire (PS_ON#), and the nearest black one (COM) and link them, a PSU will turn on. All you have to do is make a switch between them with 12 gauge wire. its an old SLI tip really.

  • Thanks it really worked! To bad that 2 power supplies wasnt enough to run my better graphic card.. I just hate graphic cards.

  • I had it right up until I got to the "no smoke". Oh well. LOL

  • thats a big case lol

  • Thanks bro....that was awesome

  • Is it safe ???

  • @barttttt13 Yes.

  • Name of the song?

  • I have a question please, I have an ATX 400W built in my case and another one in my old case which is 230W, if i will do this method, i will have a total of 630W or each PSU will work independently ?

    Thanks

  • this is just retarded.

  • poor computer stop torchering it

  • whats the point in doing dual in your system? it isnt very power draining most likely only uses 200-300 watts at load.

  • @ipullstuffapart if your overclocking you use practically double or triple even when using dual gpu or if your motherboard has 2 8 pin connectors it uses 600 watts on the board.. the point is to overclock or if you have 2 crappy psu's then hook em both up and have some power eg 2 250 watt make a 500 watt. instead of buying a new one but theres probably a million different explanations to the point of dual psu's

  • man Evey psu is different so you can't gust get eney green cable can put them together :P

  • Acually its called the ATX form factor, every case, motherboard, power supply, and component must comply with it to ensure compatibility, the cable colors are the same on all ATX power supplies.

  • @destructelectronics He's right you know.

  • @destructelectronics actually, ive come across several power supplies where the green wire is actually purple

  • @destructelectronics you schooled him!!!

  • huh cool

  • @SM7078 rofl huge dumbass

  • Why grey? Ground and green gets mine running.

  • why grey? I know it was green with one of the black wires. please respond

  • Green wire, and ANY of the black wires on that connector. They are all grounds, and they will all work.

  • My old PSU doesn't have green, so I use the grey.

  • grey is power-good, you don't need it.

  • @destructelectronics are u sure that green and black will work fine without causing damage?

  • @destructelectronics it's an output signal. I would suspect you may damage some supplies hooking it to green. You are hooking two different outputs together.

  • yeah that's right, what is grey anyway?

  • @k3nshin21 The gray cable in the power supply is called the Power Good Signal and it tells the computer that all the voltages and current are operating at their correct levels. If the levels different a bad signal will come out and tell the computer not to power up, to prevent damage to the components from higher than normal voltages.

  • @longbeach225 oh is that so,thnks for your reply now i know what is that grey cable is..thnks again.

  • I have 2 power supplies too. Might try this myself. Hope i dont burn my rig :/

  • i have done this for my GC = (graphic card) and it didnt work please help me ;S in any way ! my GC is HD 5750 it use 75 watt ! and i have two 350 watts

  • You have 350Watts, but you haven't got enough on the +12v rail probably.

  • good idea but it would be safer if i bought a 700wat PSU,cuz its not a safe idea but nice :),i have 2 PSU'S i might try this

  • This is pretty crude but I suppose it would work. You can also put a switch on the 2nd power supply and turn it on separate from the other. This would probably be safer when it comes to short circuits etc. but may cause problems when posting. Unless turned on right after boot.

  • so you know electrics? would be great if I´d know how the two psu´s handle together in stress, not just post (:

  • Because the PSU's only share the power-on signal, they function as two seperate systems. And so their stress tolerance depends purely on the qulaity of the power supplies

  • wait a minute. how do you do this WITHOUT causin ESD to the computer? (electro-static discharge)

  • Computers are thoroughly grounded, as so are the power supplies.

  • this sure doesnt sound safe. it sounds like it could blow up your computer because you'd get too much power.

  • You can't get too much power. The voltages are are always the same, and the wattage changes according to need.

  • is that is safe beacause i have sli pc with connect the grean and the balck wayer can i ???

  • you don't need to connect the black wire but as long as you connect the green you should be good

  • best guy

  • this is stupid!

  • they do make psus that fit into an optical drive slot for $50-100

  • A complement for it to be secure would be to solder twisted wires. Cool upload .

  • IF anyone is doing this for their video card be aware that if you use your normal power supply and an extra one that you will need to break the ground pin off the extra power supply otherwise your graphics will have horrizontal lines like a crt which is due to the electricity having two ground paths.

  • That's could be a solution to use 2 electrical cords to do a " Y " or at least make sure the power supply with the broken pin get a good contact metal to metal with the PC case . Tighten metal screw could do, but make sure to use a short one and be careful of where you choose to put it . Always solder hand made connections to avoid connectivity problems .

  • Power supplies have up to 9 amps input . So it's a problem with 15 amps breaker .

  • 1: Nice cable management? thats gunna overheat very fast

2: Its easier just to jump start the power supply

3: if you wanna sell thos power supplies in the future you cant charge as much cause you cut the wires

  • your totally wrong...

  • how so narcoti?

  • I will send screen shot link to your private messages.

  • you dont know a thing about pcs

very good idea here good work btw ...still better to just buy more powerfull PS

  • great video! easy to follow! awesome upload man!

  • You also have to connect at least one black wire between both power supplies. In your case the ground return is being done through the computer's metal casing or the IDE/SATA cables which is pretty unreliable and could mess things up. Remember that when mixing power supplies, both must be at the same ground potential.

  • how u connect ground wire? guide me please, thanx :)

  • Join the black wires from both power supplies together. Do NOT join other wires except from the green and black ones. Simple!

  • wait, how about the grey wire? for the 20=4pin connector, there a lot of black wires. :( which one? any?

  • Any black wire will do, they're the same.

The grey wire is not necessary, only green & black.

  • Can i use two PSUs to power up ma mobo, coz i m goin to buy a new 3d card which need more than 400 watts and i hav to supply that power to ma mobo. So i tought if i could make both the PSUs to power up one mobo, i wud b safe from buyin a new psu. plz help me.

  • Yeah you could, but since a new PSU is around 20 bucks I wouldn't bother doing all that shit, just get a new one and keep the old one as a spare for emergencies.

  • I will try it some time. Thx for vid.

  • very good video, thanks for posting. was going to spend 60 bucks on a independent psu for my 8800, i got a psu laying around ill give this a shot and see if it works.

  • All electronics contain this mystical smoke, its a VERY bad idea to let the smoke out.

    ^that was a joke relax guys...lol

But yeah this is a great idea, I have a few spare power supply's and a raid card...and a need for more hard drive space..ding ding! add them all together! I'm making a box for the power supply and extra hard drives:)

  • hey dude can you help me oony my plugs,a plug fell out named p7 or possibly p6 ,now when i game i get low fps like WoW lol,i never use to get low fps until this happends plz reply or pm me ty.

  • or you could just buy an adapter for this...I'm pretty sure Ultra sells one and you could probably find one on newegg. I'd rather to that than void any warranties to be honest. But wait, how did the computer turn on without the green or grey wires connected to the mobo?

  • the wires WERE connected to both PSU's AND the MOBO

  • hey.. hey not bad. keep it up

  • Think I will give this a shot.

  • wow... that is a weak computer lol i didnt even see at least 1 pci-express video card? dont do much gamming eh? old motherboard 2

but hey thanks for he tip now i can add another 600watt psu so i can quad sli

  • its a junker i made out of spare parts, its meant so host a simple website, its a 1.2Ghz athlon lol, now i replaced it with a 1.6 pentium 4 i found

  • wait.

    you MADE it.

    Sheez o.o xD

    ~Matt00SayAnything

  • Nice work man keep it up, check out my vid, my PSU doesnt sound good, its been buzzing since day one

    appreciate any feedback

    cheers

  • How many monitors do you have XD?

  • my laptop supports 2 on at a time, I can have 3 connected at a time

  • o_O

  • Good tutorial video, keep it up.

  • sweet
