The folks behind the camera had to put catnip on all the Puss N'Boots cans. In the real world, no feline would nudge on canned foods unless it was sprinkled with nip. My two cats are no exception.

@elc1960 I don't think Morris would use swear words, but he might, because he only eats 9 Lives.  No Puss N'Boots. Not Crave, Whiskas, Cat Chow or any other cat food not named "9 Lives." He is, well, finicky.

For whatever reason, you don't see as many cat food ads as dog food ads on TV anymore. Puss 'N' Boots was one of the big names in the '60s and '70s, along with 9 Lives and Purina (chow chow chow). Because of the "Meow meow meow" ads for Meow Mix, they pretty much stormed the competition so that for a long while afterward all you saw was them and Morris for 9 Lives.

Puss & Boots really put themselves on the map in the 1980's with the advent

of "Pounce". It's had cats flying all over the place ever since.

There was also a Warner Bros. cartoon, in that same vein, called Canned Feud, where Sylvester is inadvertently locked inside his owner's house while they go on a two week vacation, and all he has is a cupboard full of canned food. But he has no can opener, because a sadistic mouse has it. And Sylvester is desperate to get a hold of it. Check it out for yourself, it's a funny cartoon.
