well, that's not entirely true..if you really, really think about it, the Velvet Underground were actually more goth than most synthethic goth bands from the 80s. the image and the themes off their songs really set the stage for others such the Sisters, skinny puppy, the mary chain, Death in June, etc...just go back and listen to "Sister Ray".....
