@intcel The car looks so good BECAUSE they put so much emphasis on top speed. It's sleek shape was meant to slip through the air with as little resistance as possible. Had Jaguar focused more on handling, among other things, they would have had to alter the design quite a bit (possibly ruining it) to generate more downforce. In my opinion, the car is perfect the way it is.

turbos and supercharger is not bad at all. The koeningsegg uses a pretty small supercharged V8 in their 400 km/h (250 mph) car. There is no lag either, because of koeningseggs brilliant engineering.

V12 was going to be too heavy, so they effectively cut it in half and turbocharged it, that makes sense to me. less weight same power.

Look at the Lister, they took a Jag V12 engine and got their cars to over 200mph without the use for a turbo or supercharger, they did bore it out to 7.0 litres though.

@lewis72 I was making a point to Cotton top that the last stages had to have been funded by Ford - he was suggesting that the XJ220 failed and had to be bought by Ford AFTER. I know it's not actually a Ford product. Jaguar has always been Jaguar, just under funding from different manufacturers.

V12 was too heavy, it weighs 300Kg ffs, but it was up to the task in terms of power..

What about Honda in their NSX. I'm not a fan of the V6 (or any V6 for that matter). If I had stupid cash I'd get a Jag V12 engine modded to 4 valves/cyl then drop that in. Failing that, the current XKR-S V8 produces 550bhp. That'd do.

@lewis72 I have actually, I've got a flathead V12 and wanted to modify it. DOHC is fine for racing only because it gives you lots of HP and it's more efficient at high revs. but for Road use, SOHC is miles better because you have a higher average torque and you're still keeping engine size and weight down.

If you really want DOHC, get one from an old or broken DB7 because it's practically the same block.

For the Jaguar XJ220 the engine was bored it out to 3.5-litres and added twin turbochargers(twin Garrett's) to take output to 530whp. Basic engine have 3L V6 with 440hp for Austin Rover Metro 6R4(B-group)

Top speed in nardo ring was 350km/h. This car have biiig tuning potencial.
