The drivers may face negligent homicide charges for that. Also, it's not the van driver's job to look out for reckless fools going twice the speed limit. No one owes them any respect.
The van driver probably thought he had time to change lanes because it didn't occur to him that four drivers could be so reckless to drive that fast. If the racers are going twice as fast as the van, the van driver may not have even been able to see them. He would have looked in his rearview, saw cars a significant distance away, and felt, rationally, that he was clear to change lanes. He wouldn't take his eyes off the road in front of him long enough to realize how fast the cars were going.

Why are you getting so angry at me? I don't even street race! I know the people I am referring to. They will street race, because they are unable to find a suitable alternative that they like. Also if you were actually in the situation you just said, you would aim for the bus, not the car. Reason being is that a large bus will not be damaged nearly as much from you hitting it compared to say, another car.
The street racers I know, have said several times that if they feel as though they are going to get in a wreck while street racing, they will do all they can to make sure they hit noone else, or if they do, its another street racer.
@evan6691 Not neccesarily. If you ever took defensive driving courses you would know that when a crash is unavoidable, you try to look for the lesser of two evils. For example, if you are about to be in a head on crash, you can usually make a difference in what angle that other car hits you. You still crash, but you may reduce damage and/or causualties.

Why are you getting so angry at me? I don't even street race! I know the people I am referring to. They will street race, because they are unable to find a suitable alternative that they like. Also if you were actually in the situation you just said, you would aim for the bus, not the car. Reason being is that a large bus will not be damaged nearly as much from you hitting it compared to say, another car.

The street racers I know, have said several times that if they feel as though they are going to get in a wreck while street racing, they will do all they can to make sure they hit noone else, or if they do, its another street racer.

@evan6691 Not neccesarily. If you ever took defensive driving courses you would know that when a crash is unavoidable, you try to look for the lesser of two evils. For example, if you are about to be in a head on crash, you can usually make a difference in what angle that other car hits you. You still crash, but you may reduce damage and/or causualties.

@marijuanamanful There are not any tracks available in most places, and the licensing for track racing is insane. Not to mention all safety features installed in the car add up.
Most people fail to realize that racing is not a hobby that the youth can legally enjoy. If your son/daughter want to skateboard, rodeo, extreme sports, play basketball, sky dive even, they can. I'm not saying they should street race because they can't do it anywhere else, but they need a place that they can.

I've absolutely no sympathy for those that race or speed on public streets like this. I'm also sick of hearing those who defend them, using their weak arguments to justify doing something illegal and often ends in injury or death like this vid.
You street racers are worthless pieces of shit, and if I see you racing while I'm driving I'd GLADLY sacrifice my car to get you to crash. After all, I'm just changing lanes, can't get arrested for that.

Imagine reversing your car off of a 15 story building, falling straight down backwards and landing flat out on the rear of your car 100+ mph. Not a pretty sight. Don't think your dead body would like that very much.

When you are traveling 120+mph and they are traveling 65-70 the distances between you are them will seem fine when they go to make the lane change you are right next to them and the accident happens. I know because I had it happen to me I was doing 147mph in my 350z and nearly totaled it. If it hadn't been a 4 lane road it would have ended in a horrible crash. I don't speed like that on public roads anymore.
