I was going to get my history teacher to show this in our class, but he found the actual History Channel video that pretty much explains the same thing as John. I was sorely disappointed.
Why didn't I know about this last term when we were reading about the french revolution in school. Back then I did not really understand it, but now I do...
@girlfighter523 If you're saying it in french, it's pronounced 'bassty' but it's one of those words that has developed a separate english/american pronunciation. A bit like how we pronounce Paris how it's spellt instead of Par-ee and Eiffel as Eye-ful instead of Ee-fell. So both are kinda right.
We're learning about the French Revolution in history, and my teacher showed us a really boring video insultingly aimed for like 5th graders (I'm a sophomore) and I just kept thinking that she should show us this one because then people would actually pay attention. Thanks!!
my history teacher played this in class (which i squealed like a little girl about) and once the video ended he asked us if we had any questions, and immediately a boy raised his hand and said "why doesn't he blink?"
Hello, come over to my channel and watch my videos, I make videos pretty regularly so if you like them please subscribe! :D If you don’t like them please, please, PLEASE tell me how I could improve. Thanks
My school is doing Marat/Sade for a competition this year, which is about an insane asylum putting on a play about the French Revolution. Thank you for clearing up things for me. Now I can play my part much better :)
i argee with everything in this video, except Louis didn't lock them out, they were building his chair, and the assemby assumed that they were being locked out.
This is SO useful to my Enlightenment module. In the last two weeks, i have read both Rousseau and Voltaire, and this week is the French Revolution. Advantage for me, YES NERDFIGHTERS! Thanks John :)
@shilltheshillXXX .... How is Belgium not a country? I'm pretty sure my world map says "Belgium" and my passport says that I'm 'Belgian' on it. If Belgium is not really a country, than I'm in trouble!
this video is helping me study for finals. :) so i get to mix one of my favorite things (vlogbrothers/nerdfighters) and one of my least favorite things (studying) thanks John for being smart!
I showed this to my World History teacher on Friday, and guess what we saw in class today? Part 1 of it! As @xLeavingxMyxMarkx I just sat back and smiled and laughed knowing that each member of that class was a bit more awesome because of it.
May I say that for the first time I know and understand exactly what they're talking about when they want to teach us something (english isn't my first language and they talk so fast I don't get half of the things) But I got everything cause we learned this in History this year :)
One: I did not know of this video back in 2010 when I DID have French Revolution in history class.
Two: My friend got her hands on a copy of The Fault In Our Stars and she has no idea who John Green is. She asked me if John Green was a YouTuber, and also proceeded to explain Brotherhood 2.0 to me. Me? I'm a nerdfighter through and through and STILL haven't read TFIOS. I'm jealous.
I remember reading somewhere that although the revolutionaries had heard that the Bastille was full of political prisoners and guns it actually had neither so the storming turned out to be a pointless bloodbath.
As well the 3rd estate specifically wanted one big assembly because despite having way more members the 3rd estate had less power because each estate got only 1 vote out of 3 and so the 1st and 2nd would usually team up to veto any reforms the 3rd estate put out.
i have been trying to find something to hel;0p me in my AP history class and i am SOOOOO glad that i found you. enthusiasm and modern language in a story format is EXACTLY what i need. thank you so much, keep it up!!! <3
Wasn't the part with louis locking them out and them going to the tennis court all due to some misunderstanding? I remember learning that last year, but it's not coming back to me... It had something to do with it raining, and they weren't really being locked out, or at least not for the reasons they thought... Somebody wanna help me out here?
I watched this in class today. When I found out we would be watching it today, I pumped my fists into the air, shouted, "YES!" several times, and got a few funny looks but didn't care. Throughout the entire video, I sat back and smiled and laughed like an idiot, but I was proud. To everyone else watching it in their Euro class, be proud to be a nerd (especially if your nerding specialty is history). DFTBA.
What positive impact did Robespierre have apart from his political ideas? Yes he helped form the Declaration with the ideals for France but did he actually do anything else?
O.M.G.....I watched this in my history class before I knew who the vlogbrothers were....and I was the only one who like John...Nerdfighter at heart :)
I fight my ass off for those nobles and have to pay double the price for my bread, you might not know but I enjoy eating, and those assholes keep spending money like farts out of their butts.

The sad thing was, no one in the class knew about Nerdfighteria, including the teacher. But this totally made my day :D
