i hope this isn't an offense; i'm singing this song for my entire high school before Christmas, 'cause i love irish music :D and more than any other Irish song i really LOVE this one.
me dad used to sing this to me, only he'd change the words to fit whatever headband I was wearing at the time. i used to wear lots of little-girl headbands and bows when I was a child...
God blessed the Irish. After Irish marauders enslaved St. Patrick at a young age, he escaped back to England to rejoin his Catholic father and mother. He studied to become a clergyman, and after being ordained he ventured back to the Pagan Ireland. After besting the Pagan King's magicians, he quickly began a conversion from Pagan law to Christian ideology, often converting the Pagan Irish to Christianity. Mythologically a cornerstone of Irish heritage, and serving as a Saint to Catholocism.
My favorite Irish song. Looking forward to hearing it St. Patty's Day. When the band sings " I thought her the queen of the land" the crowd shouts" and she was!"...God I love it!
lol i went 2 a dropkick murphys concert in atlantic city till 1am, an then i went out 2 eat @Tony's and the mini jukebox was turned 2 this song! i was like someone sat here and theymust have gone 2 dropkick after they came 2 Tony's
whenever i listen to this song now, it brings tears to my eyes. I used to dance with my great uncle to this song and he passed away a few months ago. It just isn't the same listening to it without him. :(
ah !! the black velvet band !! No, one does it better !! mind you the Irish rovers do a fine one !!! and it is a favorite song that Canadian Maritimers sing & play !!! Folk song to us !! gg!!!
