@Michinil Hi Michele! I was just taking a break after my latest nervous breakdown.lol. I hope you post one up soon! I really look forward to your videos!
@coolanddark lol - We'll I'm glad you're not gone for good! I'm kinda taking a little break myself. Might be a couple weeks until I post another vid. Take care of yourself. Talk to you soon. :)
I grew up in northern Minnesota and I remember hearing about Ol'Ed when I was a little kid. We used to tell ghost stories about him. He was actually from Wisconsin I guess. A great song about a really sick man. Humorous but entertaining as well. You are the Master Dan! Loved the tuning on the guitar.
I think he must have had misunderstood something of what his mother told him... the nurses of the hospital "...all agreed, that he seemed like a nice, harmless little man". phew, I didn't know that "The Silence of the Lambs" was also based on him! so thanks for the instruction, and it's a perfectly crafted song!! (I'm glad you lit the candle though.... :)
Amazing song, but I can't think too much about it. My imagination is too good, and I won't be able to sleep for a week if I linger on the subject. Remarkable song, friend. ~NAncy
Ya man...Ed was sick Fawk....I generally like to say to each his own...but this guy needed to be sent back to his maker crying and in tears long before he did....brilliant tune my freind....
Awesome !!!....I always see that movie at the store but never rent it...maybe cuz the wife doesn't like horror type stuff...but anyway...great song Dan...certainly conjures up the creepyness of the subject matter !! ...and I gotta say it again...that guitar sounds NOYCE !!!!..excellent recording Dan...great vocal too !!!Cheers bro!*****
Thanks Eddie!! I dont like the slasher flicks either. The old original Psycho movie was pretty good though. That ol Alvarez has been a good friend and is sounding better the older she gets. Thanks Eddie!!
just wanted to come back & let u know what a true masterpiecet, hat just cus i was stuck on one thing,i do that often when listening..but..u have taught me finally how u really do have to picture a true story in order to tell it in a song.its just incredible the gift u have for being able to do this! this is a gift that u cannot learn, its what u do! & u do it so well! just wanted u to know i did hear the whole story...& pictured it awfully! hope alls well there!!! hugs!!
Wow Dan! Good job! I liked the "lampshade" metaphor. He was a sicko that's for sure. Yeah here in Wisconsin, we certainly grew some psychos, that's fer sure!
Hi John!! Thanks!! Yes Ed did make lampshades and covered his furniture with the skin of those he resurrected. What an incredible freak!! Thanks John!!
The sound quality on this is great Dan! Digging the changes in the guitar!!. It is really fitting with the story. Hat's off to you for being such a great writer!! LOL..at what Kat said:)) *****
My wife and I are gettin' real close to 60 and she says the younger folks are going to be expecting us to start alzhimiring out pretty soon anyway so we may as well have some fun with it while we still can and weird out occassionally and watch them wondering what the hell we are doing. Weird can be a fun place to go sometimes, as long as you don't go there as long as Ed Gein went there!!! All stories need to be told and I think all stories need a song and it's a great song for the story!!!
Thanks Losthills!! The Road is the one movie out playing right now that I want to see. Just saw Treasure of the Sierra Madre on TCM last night again. What a great flick!
Reminds me a little of Revolution Blues By Mr. Young....That is a great but hard song to listen to cause of the content...So is this one...Great song Dan....Barebones...Man, Your sound is great on this too....
this must be the dark part of coolanddark :) those things at the sides of your video are spooky, like a phantom guitar player, great tune Dan, well done.. I'm off to check my lamp shades
this woulda been a perfect halloween one Dan! u have a way of telling such an eerie story & still making a person love it! it reminded me of a recent conversation witha g/friend about people killing people & skinning them to make lampshades w/their tattoos..i decided mine would make a beautiful one! yikes...scary!!! ok love ur song but thats what line i stuck on! first time aroudn anyways!hope things are going good there! now gonna listen a 3rd time!
Wow this is a wild song Dan...I had never heard of Ed Gein before this , as always your songwriting skills come through loud & clear here...Right on ..I'm looking over my shoulder as I type this lol
Oh,...I almost forgot,.....nice job cool.....seriously. And now, reading my comment,...it was me that lived in the town just south of Plainfield, not Gein...as far as I know,......digging a hole here aren't I......
Haunting, revealing and deeply dark, your original work based on the life of Ed Gein was chillingly rendered with a touch of inspiration from John Prine. A story song deeply rooted in the folk tradition,it is very encouraging and promising to be privy to talented singer-songwriters such as yourself here upon You Tube. I feel truly blessed and am the richer for this.
Whoooa...Ed Gein.....he lived about 100 miles north in Wisconcin...my older brother used to scare the crap outta me with Ed stories....met a woman who met Ed id a psych prison
Thanks Rich! Seems every town has a serial killer story to tell. We got the green river killer up here. If I had my way theyd all be executed the same way they did their victims. But I know thats considered extremist talk now adays. Thanks!!
We had Ronald DeFeo,Jr. who had killed his entire family of six in the family home in Amityville,Long Island on Friday,November 13,1974. Also, the entire city of New York had been terrorized by The Son of Sam (David Berkowitz) for the entire year of '76-'77. But we are known here for our resilience and always get back on track.:)
I have heard of the son of Sam Max. What a freak! He should have been executed long ago! Today on my way home from work I heard on the news that 4 Lakewood police officers were shot to death inside a coffee shop! I dont understand the animal that is man. I really dont. Thanks Max! I hope your safe and doing well. I believe in the resiliance of the human race as a whole though I think.
Great song!
