Weirdest sirens I've ever heard. I just moved to DC and where I come from fire truck sirens sound like ambulance sirens. Not this whaling terrifyingly annoying crap.

@bonzty Don't ask for intelligence in the US emergency service. Red is the least responsive colour to the eye (Almost all medical and fire vehicle lights), they're coated in lights despite an obvious lack of requirement. They use innapropriate vehicles most of the time (Above is an example) Their Q siren is old fashioned and according to non-enthusiasts is just plain stupid. I mean do you like the Q? It's a horrible loud drain noise.

@DoTheShuffaloShake Yeah your right the Q is old fashioned, but there is nothing like a Q winding up to clear an intersection. Where you from? You must be from across the pond! We like our red lights. Some trucks up north have blue lights. But give me Red Lights and a Federal "Q" and I'm a happy camper!

@DoTheShuffaloShake Red is more visible in the day, blue is more visible in the night. Some places in Canada/US use different colors so you can tell if you're being stopped by the police or if an ambulance or fire vehicle is trying to pass. Also, not every place in the North America uses Q sirens, and the annoying-ness is one of ways that makes people pull over. Also, how is a two piece ladder truck "inappropriate"? It's quite necessary for tall buildings that are too dangerous to enter.
