In Utero was darker, heavier and less commercial. Nevermind had poppy hooks sing along choruses, and was more "clean" compared to In Utero. Both were great albums and real fans would appreciate both.
@pepsicola212 Nevermind and in Utero were two completly different directions. Kurt even admitted that himself. I mean yea, when I say "clean" I dont mean the guitars but more of a "radio friendly" sound. Songs on In Utero like Scentless Apprentice and Tourettes would never get radio play like say, Drain You or On a Plain which are much more poppy and upbeat.
musically they never went downward, however their live shows did. While this may be one of Kurt's favorite songs, he looks like he would rather be somewhere else. compare this to older videos and you can see what I mean.
if you really liked nirvana and respected them and kurt cobain, and if you truly understood him, you would love this song and that amazing album so much more. that album WAS kurt, not Nevermind.
This song is great, Nirvana never took a downward sprial...in music, that is. In Utero was by far thier best album, in my oppinion. Besides, Kurt loved this song.
i think in untro is just as poppy if not more. i don't believe you.

if in utero "was more kurt" than thats probably why in utero is darker and more intense, while nevermind isnt as deep.

its a shame that nirvana were on such a masive downward spiral

Nirvana were never on a downward spiral, they were consistantly creative and fantastic. In Utero is one of my favourite albums ever.
