Other night I was on a ride - came up behind a cyclist; Hood up, riding no hands & no lights..with headphones on....I asked him about his situation = cant be arsed/bothered ???
@Dopydoby Yeah.. s'funny that... us thinking we have a right to live. Of course you only have that right if you pass a driving test or cycling proficiency test (which no longer exists). What a strange little world you live in.
@sh4rkybloke. You have as much right to live as I do in shark infested water.... except I would swim with the sharks in mind and I would be very careful. I certainly would'nt antagonise them. Think about this when you are dodging between the traffic that can kill you.
All cyclists want to join in with the traffic ...but ride like idiots (the majority).
If the majority of cyclists followed the highway code there would far less accidents and people would respect them more.
I think this whole car vs bike arguments pretty redundant because theres more than enough room for everyone with a bit of consideration and care. However highlighting bad behaviour in this video when you completely hog up a single lane road instead of using the cycle lane in one of your other videos because its not up to standard really sucks. Irrespective of legality its actually kind of greedy and petulant. Only going to leave bad impressions and make stuff worse
people keep on commenting about cyclists being made to take tests, have insurance etc. None of this would make any difference to the idiots out there. I drive a car and ride a motorbike and the number of morons out there, who probably are totally legal is amazing. Sadly there will always be people who just don't care about other road users and expect the world to move out of their way. Tossers
@millsy1804 Errrm, I'm on a bike... I don't do those things because I have brains... nothing to do with balls/skills. Back to the padded cell you go, there's a good little boy/girl.
@millsy1804 Would you say that if a car did it? Is it skillful if a car did that a knocked you over?? NO course it isnt. Rules apply to cyclists and well as cars. If you really think this is skillful jumping red lights then you are a FOOL!
It all boils down to one simple point really. If you want to use the road then you should expect to take a test, insure your bike, have it registered and tested annually, and pay a bit of road tax to help finance all the cycle lanes etc. Nobody should on the road without all the things above, makes me wonder why the government doesn't legislate to that effect?
@WheelieMacBin That would be absolutely fantastic. If anyone actually believed any of that tax might go towards Cycle Lanes (which don't exist in Norwich) And it goes both ways, Cyclists are among the least dangerous vehicles, you get hit by one at top speed and worst case you break a leg. Cars hit you at less than HALF top speed and you're dead. And the test thing? Because the Driving Test is 'totally' obeyed by 'everyone'....like the poster undercutting the cyclist at the end!
you complain about cyclists but cars are worse and for those who say they should be insured sure. a typical car weighs 3000 pounds and in canada if your young you pay 2000 dollars a year my bike is 21 pounds so sure ill pay 21 dollars a year cuz i am only a harm to myself
Cyclists should have to pass a test and should have registration plates. I see these kinds of cyclists very frequently, and unlike with cars, if they get hit they will most likely die.
Although I pedal my bike on the other side of the pond (and the other side of the street) I share your frustration with cyclidiots that make us all look bad. In my neighborhood a visiting alien would be excused for thinking that the law required bicycles to be riden on the sidewalk against the flow of traffic because most do. The latest craze is fixed gear bikes that don't even have brakes being riden in a never-slow-down manner. Traffic laws are only for those smart enough to read them.
I've said it before. Cyclists should be licensed and insured before being allowed on the roads. Idiot cyclists, like the ones shown here, endanger all road users (including other cyclists) and need taking off the road every bit as much as dangerous drivers. The difference is motorists have no excuse for driving dangerously - they've been taught the rules and passed a driving test. Cyclists don't have to do that and can pleade ignorance if they do something wrong. To me that is just plain daft.
A cyclist and a car driver are simply people driving a machine. In both cases there are all kinds of people, good people, bad people, skilful people, careless people and so on.
However, cars are more dangerous to the other road users than bikes and hence, the need for a tougher regulation.
Although bikes are classified as vehicles & subject to the same traffic rules, their design is such that their breach of some rules is really no cause 4 concern or 4 you getting annoyed.
So true. I cycle in london every day to and from work and poor cycling is as common as poor driving. I'm used to it now and know what to look our for, but it can be dangerous sometimes. I wish I saw more police prosecuting traffic offences by cyclists, motorcyclists and vehicles, but it just doesn't happen, so everybody using the road knows they can get away with it..
Actually, repression and terrorism is not the way to go. This issue has to be addressed through education and awareness.
Sometimes, though, breaking some rule does not pose any danger at all. Sometimes, being on a bike is not very different from being a pedestrian. The guy who crossed the roads on the peds seemed careful enough, he was behaving like a pedestrian. So, in some situations it doesn't really matter.
@jonnlasts "Repression and terrorism" ? Think that's a bit of a hyperrbolic. I don't think many people would refer to traffic law in those terms. And I don't think the idea of education and awareness is going to work, if you're a careless driver, cyclist or whatever, that's a difficult mindset to change, only the fear of repercussion will make you change your ways - the fear of getting a fine from having your vehicle stuck in an ASL for example.

I always stop at red lights but I do cross red lights once in a while but only when it is absolutely safe, meaning when there's absolutely no vehicles or people crossing. specially if you are the only person using the road at on an early Sunday morning.
@denzzz28 i still wouldnt even cross then there could be a idiot driver driving really fast to get past the lights b4 they change and you could be in the middle of the road cycling along and then somone could hit u but i can c where ur cumin from though
Yeh it amazes me too. Since moving to Manchester my definition of the word cyclist has changed. Cyclists are people who follow the rules of the road, are courteous to other road users and safe. Everyone else is just an idiot with a bike. Just because you can ride doeasn't make you a cyclist, in the same way that any idiot can drive a car, but it takes skill and experience to be a true motorist.
Thanks for the video. I'm a cyclist and at least 50% of other cyclists annoy the crap outta me. They give us a bad rep, and what is their problem with traffic lights? I generally wont run a red because I don't want to knock someone down or get hit by a car; but the number of times when I'm waiting at a red only for another cyclist to pull in front of me and then cycle too slowly when it goes green. I ride round Oxford which is also full of muppet students who love to pull out in front of you.
@scribs01 Im a cyclist made me laff, Its because I cant afford test and its quicker at rush hour, unfortunately stop at red lights and have many cyclists who cant pass driving test go through the reds and are slower than me even though I stop at lights
@scribs01 are you aware the person who filmed this was a cyclist? And he found the other cyclist to be an idiot, hence not all cyclists ignore the rules of the road.
@MelloVEL0 If you mean the one at about the 1.50sec mark, then no... the opposing traffic has a filter light sequence for a few seconds before our light goes green.
Didnt have enough room but the idea of headcam seems good idea my dad always worried about me cycling in Manchester he doesnt feel safe in a 4x4 with cyclists, Taxi drivers, buses an careless drivers. I asked him if near misses should be reported he said yeah but there no proof and well what do you know proof could be headcam could capture drivers actions and number plates on car. Can I ask were you got your headcam from?
Woohoo its Manchester Oxford Road/Booth street many times I stopped where you are whilst cycling and been taken over by cyclists even when lights are on red. Unfortunately oxford road the place of idiots both in cars and bikes. Had 2 near misses with cars. One parkd in cycle lane open door on me wen I went past aquatics centre I had lights and high vis, other was dover street junction lights on green, car in opposite lane misjudges distance nearly hits front of me and brakes just in time
@matgonjinn Bless, it's a good job you're probably not allowed out much (with your arms free, I mean). Have a sit down and a nice biscuit to take your tiny mind off things.
I cycle down Oxford road all the time and it's amazing the number of RLJs', they never get any further too lol. Must admit, never seen it this bad tho!!!!
sadly, this is the reason why so many drivers suffer for rage when it comes to cyclists. i mean, in the space of 2 minutes you have seen how many cyclists breaking the law and behaving stupidly? its a shame that there isn't more education for cyclists and drivers alike.
Car drivers see cars RLJing; speeding; etc as the misbehaviour of individuals (when it's not themselves doing it) They see us, lorries, busses, vans etc as something "other" Seeing a few people misbehaving leads to them regarding all that group the same. Some use that to justify cowardly behaviour in showing no regard for or intimidating cyclists while they sit in their safe boxes. All cyclists have an obligation not to give these idiots the ammunition they barely need.
No wonder there's a frustrated motorist backlash. Cyclists like these put cyclists like you and me at risk from the actions of the motorists they've pissed off. We all get lumped together.

I agree with 'scribs01' except .....its not that they can't pass their driving test.......they don't HAVE to pass a driving test!
