Archiving with WinRAR and 7-Zip

@MrBeN2O archives create copies.. so you can delete the original files and delete the other... then extract the files from the archive when you want them :)

actually, zip files don't compress as well as rar files (especially on executables.) making it a solid archive tends to save space to when dealing with multiple files.

i compressed the full install of halo (just for curiosity,) and shrunk it from 1.5Gb down to 500Mb.

You open it with either 7zip or winrar, select all the files, and extract them.

7zip basically does the same thing as winrar, only 7zip is completely free.

If you were to upload/send a file somewhere and it had restrictions on file size you can then split it and send it in chunks, then when the other partie(s) receive the files then can open the archive and extract the whole original file in one piece.

It will open split rar archives and you can make split zip archives.

Hey man I got 25.6 Gb of video files that I want to compress so it can fit in to a DVD DATA disc but I dont really know how

For extreme compression, the best you're going to get on video is about 90% compression, so 25 gigs = 22.5 gigs. So to get this compression, I'd recommend you try the KGB archiver.

And it's also gonna take a few hours to compress on the highest compression, so I'd just rar it into a lot of 4.37 gig rar archives and use multiple DVDs.
