Very nice interpretation! It's great to watch how much she enjoys her playing. Beautiful lady and really great sounds from the guitar. I like how she works different tones down at bottom of strings and over the soundhole. Very good, I enjoyed it!
Wow Wow Wow sei stupenda I just love your interpretation of this beautiful piece you have brought it back to life as the original composer would have wanted it. There are alot of versions out there but none so beautifully emotionally and passionaltly played.
Brittle, sharp tone? True! Is it the nails or the strings or general acoustics? Who cares? This is music as it should be, played with passion and outstanding artistry. just look at her expression and you know she's in the music. Every live performance is something unique. Sit back and enjoy!
in fact, I didn't like the way where she kept some parts especially slow, it gave me the impression that she lacks the speed and the techniques to play the song well since this affects the rhythm significiantly.
Filomena is a great guitar player don't get me wrong she plays perfectly here but tone of that guitar is just too thin and sharp I prefer Segovina's or Ana's version just becouse of tone. She's still great guitar player though :)
I would like to have a huge opportunity to thank ms. Moretti for every part of her consideration in play for us, for every time she rehearsed thinking in presenting her best, every tear she shed reaching the chords of her soul, with the intention to do something to make a better world.
Believing that it is everyone's responsibility, she is doing a great job.
My tribute to her will be in another time, when opportunity meets love in an axis where Ms. Moretti is present.
i do not deslike it,...certantley i can't do better , lol but i've heard better versions of this song, she's playing very slowly...it's missing something.... but 'course she plays very well,...i wish i could play this song like her at least :) seems like she is married with her guitar,...i like the way she's smiling, she really like what she's doing...she has a great positive presence!!!
no one can play this better than Segovia does. But it's fantastic to see how much she feels the music, she just put emotion in it. It can be seen clearly in her face expressions and listened in lots of passages. very nice indeed.
Untill I saw this video I tought John Williams had the best interpretation of the piece but not anymore. She feels the melody as she plays it, almost as if she is singing it rather than playing with the help of an instrument.... beautiful.
I do not agree with that, but I also think that the perception of music and musical taste are entirely subjective things, and as such purely a matter of personal preference. If you like this rendition better than Williams', that's great :)
@sjokolade777 If you think John Williams' version of this piece lacks fire you ask for too much, it doesn't get any better than that, I've never heard a better version than his, and it will hardly ever be a better one. Filomena's version is good, but I don't like her attack on the strings, it sounds a little harsh at times, unlike Williams' which is perfect from beginning to end ^-^
Yes, John William is now a good and even perfect old man on the guitar, but it sounds like past; Filomena Moretti points to the Future it is something totally different that she brings! Asta la vista amigo!
This is absolutely true. John strives more for perfection in execution than emotion. He's always been that way, but there's nothing wrong with that....I guess.
@graveljaw perfection does not exist, and whats more, if one could achieve it, then it wouldnt be art, it would be like midi from computer, without a soul .. so it is better to strive for emotion than perfection..
Look to the inherent possiblilitys of this soul, thats the most important: John William was good in his time, no doubt, but it runs out... Filomena will do it in the future, no doubt about that.
twas ok. She look more concern with her presentation than with her actual emotion.theres noting wrong with this except you can hear it. When segovia played it was the guitar that displayed his actual emotions not his face. It was like he was the only one in the room..just an opinion.
Nothing can compare to her, her training, her passion, expression, and beauty, she is a goddess of music... Even to listen to her playing without watching her perform, even if i were blind, she would still measure to what she is in spirit..
Saludos.
I think this is terrific... I love hearing different artists bring their interpretation to music. Slower or faster is not necessarily better, it is just different. I wouldn't want to hear everyone play everything just like segovia... that would be boring. BTW... segovia played this slow because he couldn't play this piece fast, he said as much himself, IIRC.
I actually like Filomena's interpretation better. Ana Vidovic does a great job but for my taste her playing is needlessly aggressive sometimes. Especially playing this tune.
@iberko i disagree :P i think that what's missing about filomena is speed,...wich ana vidovic has...i don't know, ...but i prefer ana... but i also like filomena's interpretation, because, she's really good too!! sorry for the bad english, i don't know if said some wrong verbs...:D i'm not english
I wonder if you interpret Recuerdos de la Alhambra, one of my favorites songs, I love how you play Paganini caprices #24, although I'm not sure but it seems that you jump a variation, but anyway the way you play the guitar is almost heavenly, thanks for sharing your music with the world.
This and Segovia's interpretation are my favorite versions of Asturias. Filomena uses the "orchestration" of her guitar....I also like that she doesn't strum the guitar too fast......I have her CD, and her use of the different intonations of the guitar enrapture me........
i guess her nails brought a bit of harshness to the song. they cause the song to lack the softness and impede flow needed in some parts of the song. but still, great technique and soul!
i'm glad you're able to appreciate my comment. thanks. take a look at the information of the author who posted this video. he/she only posts videos of Filomena Moretti. what makes you think that person can't come by everyday to click on the minus on my comment?
I have a new favorite classical guitarist. She is as beautiful as her music. She treats her guitar like a lover, and the expression comes through in the music.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
this a classic piece, but let's dont forget it is a spanish clasicc piece mainly , So she plays very good, but I do not feel the spanish soul in this version . In my opinion this piece should be played with spanish classic with a flamenco air like Pepe Romero and John Williams.ISorry for my english.
I very like from this interpretation the fact that every note is clear and precise, although, I don't like very much the too many ritardantos and I think it's too much „rubato". On the other hand, I like when she, after the slow part, starts the theme with an accelerando and in pizzicatto.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I agree - this seems a little beyond her technique - the fast sections need to flow more, the rythm is really important to this piece I think - she is great i nthe middle though (actually SHE is great all over LOL)
While I like her interpretation, and I do like Ausurias in many different ways...I think her right hand has too much tension.
Segovia also has pauses when he plays...and I love the rubato and expressive choices he does and the ones here as well.
I don't mean to be harsh in my critique because I respect this version very much.
Some of the comments here are mean spirited; this artist clearly has worked very hard. Respect that. She's a very lyrical player. Too many people just rush this piece.
I'd say it was the best interpretation of this piece one can watch on Youtube if there wasn't such a grave lack of punch an many important points - sorry.
It's mot even that it's slow. It's like, she pauses too many times kind of. I'm guilty of the same thing at times, don't get me wrong, but half the time I do it it's for technical difficulties haha. She's obviously got the chops to book it, and yet she insists on pausing, like the B maj. every single time. Do it the first time, and then hit it and continue after that, don't keep pausing for 2 seconds evry time you hit that little mini-phrase thing.
Only just read poupee's earlier, idiotic comments which aren't worth discussing; just wanted to make it clear that my only point of agreement was in regard to maintaining a fixed tempo in the outer sections - something Segovia certainly never did!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I agree with poupee58's implication that the outer section should be a moto perpetuo. The 1892 edition is marked allegro non troppo, the 1897 is allegro. Most pianists play it considerably faster than guitarists do. Whilst the original is marked staccato I think, given the change of instrument and the guitar's inherent percussive qualities, that it is acceptable for a guitarist to make their own decision as to the level of staccato used and also how much it applies to the first note in each bar
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
The original score is marked not too fast, most guitarists hurry too much.Too much Rubato ,Stopping and starting in the opening section which is uncalled for. Also few guitarists play this as it should be,Staccato.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Very annoying facial mannerisms ,too much stopping and starting in her playing of this piece, rubato is not called for in the opening section. She obviously does not understand this music. Not a patch on segovia ,williams or yepes so why bother to play this piece?
lol ...i was trying to play this song :P ..my bro told me : "well Filomena :P u look like someone who's struggling while the real one (Filomena) lives the song :P:P"
There is more to one song and band that meets the ears. In the way that I am just getting started whit music. I am no artist but love the sounds of 1,000 of years of music or more.

I think Ana Vidovic plays it better

Wow, this is the fastest I've heard someone play this song. She really ought to slow down a bit though, she keeps missing the triplets.

type in ana vidovic-asturias , she beats that women :)

Oh, yeah, I've seen her play it. She's really good, but I think I actually prefer John Williams' version better.

Only just read poupee's earlier, idiotic comments which aren't worth discussing; just wanted to make it clear that my only point of agreement was in regard to maintaining a fixed tempo in the outer sections - something Segovia certainly never did!

I agree with poupee58's implication that the outer section should be a moto perpetuo. The 1892 edition is marked allegro non troppo, the 1897 is allegro. Most pianists play it considerably faster than guitarists do. Whilst the original is marked staccato I think, given the change of instrument and the guitar's inherent percussive qualities, that it is acceptable for a guitarist to make their own decision as to the level of staccato used and also how much it applies to the first note in each bar
paulcroft1944 3 years ago
Thats was amazing
i wish i can play it at this speed

The original score is marked not too fast, most guitarists hurry too much.Too much Rubato ,Stopping and starting in the opening section which is uncalled for. Also few guitarists play this as it should be,Staccato.

Very annoying facial mannerisms ,too much stopping and starting in her playing of this piece, rubato is not called for in the opening section. She obviously does not understand this music. Not a patch on segovia ,williams or yepes so why bother to play this piece?
