DAMN SHE WAS SO TALENTED!!! NOT JUST POWERFUL. HAVE YOU EVER SEEN HER IN 98 Rck'n Roll SHE WAS A GREAT DANCER TOO, MAYBE NOT A BALLETIC ONE, BUT SHE COULD DANCE. NO DOUBT ABOUT IT
holy! she is so talented. i was rooting for her so hardcore that season. bummer about her uneven bar inconsistencies bc she was just an incredible talent!
@yngtxtopbear i'm a bit doubtful about that.she had consistency problems on some events(her bars were not polished at all),and her balance beam always had a few balance checks. with the vault problem, she might have had issues with her state of mind after that. we'll never know :(
@afgymnast96 I know, I blame most of her headcasery on her Coach Steve. A good coach knows how to get their athlete out of a funk and get their heads in the game.
i know! one of the most frustrating things with vanessa is thinking what might have been if she stuck with it....with the rudi, i can say with confidence that vanessa could have beaten zamo at sydney. vanessa had a stronger DTY and the russians had hard times controlling their tsuk doubles
Yeah def, I wish they let her go to the olympics so we would know what could have happened. Hell, she could have won the all around with all of those falls by the big names! But instead the US took a consistent but weaker team that didn't medal and now we'll never know :(
Atler's biggiest problem was her mental state. It was very fragile once she let things rattle her. Steve Rybacki NEVER bothered to understand this. Granted Gymnastics is hard and you need to be a tough cookie to do well, but you also need the support from your coaches when you fuck up something. Not to be constantly derailed and chided every time you fuck up. I blame Steve Rybacki for the complete lack of world and olympic medals during the 97-00 quad!
Most female gymnasts find handspring entry vaults easier on the old horse, actually. And while Vanessa got much more distance, Alicia got a lot more height; and lack of distance is less of a deduction than lack of height.
I love, love, love Dominique Dawes, but I think that spot on the 2000 team should have gone to Atler.

it is exactly the same vault that Alicia does (1,1/2 twists)
but I prefer Nesa's vault

Such a hard vault, especially on this old style horse. AMAZING. Too bad she didn't compete this vault after this competition.

well nobody will ever know cause its the past lol

Atler could have easily led the USA to a team bronze at the 2000 Olympics, as well as taking Gold on Floor, Vault and possibly the All Around.

she performed this vault better than Alicia Sacramone
capsule1988 2 years ago 2
Alicia performed 1 1/2 twisting Rudi I believe which was more difficult.
Summonearth 2 years ago
this is the exact same vault that alicia performed.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Same family, but different variation of the vault. Alicia does it with more twists then Atler.

@Summonearth That's what that was weirdo. Haha

@stevenh622 A 1 1/2 twist is called a rudi. haha

That's so true, and they put Dawes on the team in her place and she was totally a non-factor.
capsule1988 2 years ago 4
@schood85 well at least now they got the bronze medal, 10 years too late, but i am sure it makes them feel happy:)

@schood85 They finally got their Bronze this past summer

Much nicer distance than A sac and harder on the side horse.

better body stretch than alicia too!
angelintampa 3 years ago
Yes, but baring that Alica has to pass over the vault which is twice the size of that horse.
willsbob123 2 years ago 2
if nessa had to use the table, which makes vaulting MUCH EASIER, she still would have vaulted way beyond what alicia can do.
angelintampa 2 years ago
Actually, the slop and space of the table makes this vault much easier to perform.

wow... look at her distance alicia!
