@hightone4ever the only difference between AWD and 4x4 is that AWD usually means full time 4x4 HIGH, and 4x4 just means there's a transfer case, you can switch between 4hi, 4lo, and RWD. At the end of the day no one really cares lol. Driving in 4x4 4hi is exactly the same as driving a full time AWD vehicle.

@roberth214 true but....... 4x4 hi usually puts equal power to the front and rear wheels...... most full time AWD systems use a center differential to split the torque between the front and rear differentials.... the good ones sense wheel slip and send more torque to the wheels with less slip.

you might get a horsepower or two on the dyno with the bright lights off. i was at a shop where they were rebuilding my jeep's transmission and they dyno'd a mustang and the guy got a couple more horsepower with the lights off because the alternator wasn't absorbing power. same goes for the air condition

@DC7544 yea 4x4 and AWD are different. Also what you will see with lots of AWD now adays like the new nissan GT-R is the AWD differential in which it starts off in AWD until your up to speed and rolls into RWD. Doing so helps keep your top speed and acceleration up because that way your engine uses less power to run the wheels. AWD takes more power to move thus slowing you down. It's good for off the line but will slow you down the stretch

@DC7544 It's called torque biasing, it's designed into the transfer case, on newer 4x4s you can set the bias with a switch. The bias is around 60~70% to the rear wheels on dry pavement (depending on the manufacturer).

His video annotation at 3:31 said it's still AWD, must have decoupled his front drive to use that rear wheel dyno.
