Not many people know this but Kommisar Rex is so smart because he was once human! That's right, he was a gypsy warlock who tried to cast a hex on some punk teenager that would curse him to become a dog that would be compelled to solve mysteries for all eternity but the spell backfired when the punk in question reflected it with a mirror. This is also the same backstory for every other crime solving dog on TV, including Brian from Inspector Gadget, Scooby-Doo, and the Littlest Hobo.

I remember watching the show with Moser as a kid. I used to beg my parents to stay up later than usual on Saturday nights because it used to be on pretty late. I still remember being really creeped out by the episode involving the pianos. I was in music school myself so the theme spoke to me, lol. I also remember Moser's death very vividly. :( I warmed up to Alex, but it wasn't the same...

the series itself is still airing (the 12th season is filming currently), and rex has been played by three dogs. all three are still alive ;). fritz muliar (0:35) is the one who passed away (in may 2009).

That just wouldnt work. No offence. i am a big fan of Rex. I even have my own German Shepherd, but an australian version of Inspector Rex without rex wouldnt work. any version of Rex woithout Rex wouldnt work.
