best live solo of stairway ive ever heard i have heard the earls court version seattle and knebworth version and the original from led zepp 4 but this is the best live version so far its up there with the original page was an epic guitarist in his day
This is the best live recording of any song I've ever heard. I, mean this is so beyond phenomenal. Especially when John Bonham rocks out during the guitar solo. Freaking nuts. This blows my mind whenever I hear it. Gives me chills. "Awesome" doesn't give this justice.
ya this is from June of 1972 Jimmy Page has stated more then once that this show was the apex of Led Zeppelin at it's very top of there time playing together
@polymath7 Yes, "How the West Was Won" album (released 2003) was madewith live performances of two shows, both recorded during U.S. summer tour '72 : (25/06/1972 Los Angeles) and (27/06/1972 Long Beach).
Maybe you mean the "BBC sessions" album (released in 1997 but recorded between 1969 -1971).
Official material from 1975 are the shows at Earls Court.
@jimmygt4 It wasn't so much his voice. I think he was just incredibly bored. He looses so much energy and enthusiasm in the live performances. But the studio recordings were still pretty good.
Stairway to Heaven comes on and you slow dance real close with some sweet girl you just asked but don't really know.
As easy as a slow-dance may seam, you're so carefull to not "fall out of step". Nervous, you can't see anything but those sparkles of light from that glittering disco ball.
Eventually the music gets to you and you relax. You feel your partner pressing her head closer to your chest. Drums kick in, guitar wales away, time stands still.
This guitar solo is superior to anything I've heard over the years. It was none other than this specific version of the song that made me want to start playing guitar.
This might be my favorite version of this song. It sounds incredibly powerful and enigmatic. It also exhibits what incredible chemistry they had as musicians. JPJ's mellotron, Bonzo's drums, and Jimmy's guitar blend so well together. You can see why people thought there was aura of mysticism about them.
"And as we wind on down the road, Our shadows stronger than our soul, There walks a lady we all know, Who shines white light and wants to show, How everything still turns to gold, And if you listen very hard, The tune will come to you at last, yeah, When all is one and one is all, (That's what it is) To be a rock and not to roll! And she's buying a stairway to heaven..." Inspiration.
@norwaypwnsall I think Mr. Jimmy Page himself could have made this the most valuable piece of "Live" Led Zeppelin only if he included ALL of the encores from June 25, 1972.
The organ solo/thank you and then communication breakdown, ah man its just too good to leave out what the fuck was page thinking? he never gives us the rare songs. at least he included bring it on home though, i find that also the best version. i think it was the last time the song was played also.
3 people are fans of lady gaga and justin bieber..... FOR SURE, i hate ignorance of people... These are the creators of heaven and earth, THIS IS LED ZEPELIN!
@threedayparks I know, right? The only good bands now are like... Buckethead because it's beautiful, not really rock AT ALL more like ambient/funk/techno/metal/classical(maybe). Kind of apart from your comment, but the point isn't. (The point being there's pretty much no RECOGNIZED good music.)
@threedayparks Guns N'Roses is about as good as modern rock ever got - and that's quite good. But compared to Classic Rock - they should just go home.
And it's funny because GNR were very Classic sounding.
@CentraCross That's an interesting, although slightly naive statement, considering Appetite is closer to Led Zeppelin 4's release than today (1987 is closer to 1971 than 2011).
I love the How The West Was Won version of Stairway to Heaven. To tell you the truth, I don't really like the other versions that much. They put way more feel in this one.
I download this version in mp3 one year ago, and from that time i'm looking for place where this version was recorded, and today accidentally i found it!!Thx !

montreaux 1970, how the west was won 1972, the song remains the same 1973, 1970 good times in la, etc... all good bootlegs there live songs sound so much better imo.
Wow- That's the most passionate(and best)drumming you could ever get. (because it goes perfect with the music) Plant's vocals sound clearer than ever. That's the best that Page has ever played live. That was beautiful, what a song.
It would be interesting if he found some tape from another concert and release it. There are concerts with great playing (For badgeholders only, Munich 1980)
Sadly this CD is a bit compressed (loudness) and some of the punch has been sucked to it. Hate the loudness war of mastering carried from a greedy industry.
