  • im a catcher too and im 11. it is very hard being a catcher because u have to be alert all the time and it is also a fun position!

  • I really miss playing..I would do baseball recreationally, but all they have at my college is softball. And I'd rather not play on a school team.

  • Catchers rule the game. You tell everyone else what to do. Catching the best.

  • Cather rocks even tho I play softball bc I am a girl it rocks but alot of people dont like it because its to hot but if you have what it takes to be a catcher its soo much fun

  • Lol 0:55

  • haha im sorry but am the only one who found the 0:55 sequence hilarious?

  • im trying to be a catcher

  • im a catcher for my high school team im starting varsity and im a freshman at mullen high school in denver colorado and it is the best position ever i think

  • haha yep one time at catching practice my 5 pitchers peg balls at me for 30 min strait and i had to sit on my nees and it hurt like hell they all went for my thighs at 70 mph every time i got hit i was cusing in my head haha ive never seen purple legs before that day lol

  • This si a helpful video but it's more for catchers starting out.

  • One of the most important skills a catcher can have is blocking the ball.blocking the ball saves runs, and there is no need to be lazy and backhand it.If you get infront of the ball, you save runs.If you save runs, then well you win the game.

  • 1:00 wimpy way to tag some one, run into 'em! It's baseball!/softball. I'm a girl playing softball and I wanna run into them and GUARD HOME! It's a RUN!

  • i completely agree. it is no fun not to run into them.lol. thats one of the reasons i like catching so much.

  • WOW! Calm down! The kid is like a 9 yr. old and the guy is like 17 or so, why would you take out a little kid? Besides, ur not supposed to block the plate head on bcuz an ump might called it obstruction and give the guy the base and also it is safer to put ur left foot on the corner of the plate and just bend your hind leg and tag the runner bcuz it's quick, safe, effective, and even covers the whole bag. I catch for my high school team so don't tell me i don't know what i'm talking about.

  • im a lefty catcher, my coach ordered one and i keep it untill the end of the season but when you throw to 2nd it doesnt make a difference i just have to force my throw to the other side of the base

  • Hey ppl, I'm a catcher for softball, but I still try to watch vids. for baseball.... there isn't much of a diff. when i comes to catching !!! I love catching, and on hot days, the only way to beat the heat is drink TONS of water, and make the plays to get the quick outs.... I've been playing catcher for U10 and U12 for about 4 years. Catching is my passion and i love to play it ! People think catchers have it easy, but we're the ones with the xtra 5 pounds of equipment ! ;]

  • haha i agree. im 15, and have been playing catcher my whole life, for baseball though, not softball. but not much of a difference. for some reason, i dont get too hot behind the plate with all my gear on, idk why, lol. but yea its my fave position too. =p.

  • I agree too. I catch for my high school team and did u notice that when its very hot outside its not hot when ur actually playing in the game. Its the toughest position in all of sports and many people don't realize how much crap we have to deal with.

  • You got that right!

  • i agree. i catch for my allstar team.

  • @DUKERULES yeah rally when the pitcher blames you for a pitch that went into the dug out i get bitched at by everyone like ohh why did'nt you dive for it try taking it bieng 30 degrees out and 40-50 degrees in the suit playing all day

  • @DUKERULES seriously the coaches blame u for everythiing that goes wrong.... being the captain of the field sucks at times....

  • wow guys cover the plate when your tagging some one out. don't stand up and swipe get down and slide side ways blocking your plate and having the mit travel with the foot. and if the guy tries to be a smart ass and jump over you simply stand up while he is above you and flip him over.

  • i wanna be a catcher but the gear cost too much even though my coach has some i need to practice outside the field, any suggestions?

  • try going and by used catcher gear or ask for it for your birthday

  • ask ur coeach if u could barrow it after practises.

  • just buy a rawlings renagade glove from sports authority only 49.99

  • im a lefty cud i still be a catcher

  • yea i know alot of lefty catchers

  • cool thnx!!!!!

  • You can be but there is a huge disadvantage for lefty catchers throwing down to third. I dont think there are many, or any lefty catchers in the majors.

  • wouldnnt it be the same with rightys throwing down to first base?

  • ya, it's the same.2 probs.1.) the opportunity for a back door (throwing out the runner as he is off of a base) is easier at first cuz at third he is on the basepath;exception is if the catcher is better at throwing to 1st than 3rd then it might be an advantage (i'm a righty and i like 3 base throws better). 2.) the main disadvantage is that when u tag someone at 2 u tag on the right side. A righty has a straight shot, a left must intentionally throw to the right taking time + angling the throw

  • i think there was one left n the majors if im not mistakin

  • ya but it is hard to find a glove and it sucks on a hot day go with ss

  • ok, blocking is very important, but the absolute most important part of being a catcher is being the leader of EVERYTHING that goes on in the field. you are the general, you are responsible for every other player and the play in its entirety.. know the game, learn your players (and your own) strengths and weaknesses and understand what other teams are going to do against you.. yes, block every ball you can, throw out the runners you can, but learn and know the game and how to play it right

  • Blocking the ball is the most important task for the catcher, and fittingly, its also the hardest task.

  • yes it is. i catch and pitch and when i am pitching i hate it when the ball gets by my catcher. one time i threw a 12/6 curve for strike 3 nd it got by my catcher nd that runner ended up scoring in the inning. every catcher knows wut its like 2 have a bad game its not fun but its part of the job. expect 2 get bruises nd love 2 get alot of em

  • okay all of you that commentend so far play bace ball right? well i play softball and catchers yea they are underrated but i mean why care about that atleast your playing. i play tornaments with like 6 games a day- like 90 degrees and go from game to game and only get like a one inning break the whole day. so what i ♥ softball.

  • Why care about it? are you serious. Im a catcher, and I have to get beat up every day blocking pitches and getting run over, so we would like some respect for working harder than anyone else on the team.

  • word.

  • I don't understand what your point is

  • I am a catcher

  • ok to the kid who said catchers are underrated..try to pitch without a good cathcer, yea, exactly you will get no wheree!!!

  • Dude, i mean that catchers dont get the attention and credit they deserve.

  • if u gonna block or runner on base best way to get up quickly to gun him out or to block is instead of having all your weight on your legs(sitting) you get up a little bit it might get you tired faster but that means you need to do conditioning. Since your weight is off your legs makes your reaction time seem a little faster comment me back if it helps.

  • good man

  • when blocking you dont wanna take that step to the right or left because once you get at higher and higher levels and pitching gets harder you're not gunna have time to do that

  • true but for catchers who are just starting out its a good way to get them used to moving quickly, and once they've gained enough experience they will realize that there is no need for the step and still move very quickly

  • Although, generally as you get to higher levels, the accuracy gets better.

  • anybody have any like good videos that help like tips and stuff im a freshman starting on varsity and i need some drills and help on techqunic and stuff thanks

  • Being a catcher rocks. Nobody ever wants to be a catcher because you have way too much responsibility and it's way too tiring.

But when you got the guts to be one, you're the king of the game!

  • Yay catcher!

Everyone is a pitcher, or trys to be. Catchers are underrated.

  • yeah i love catching

i would rather be a catcher

than any other position in the field

  • me too

  • @NicktheIrishman haha you said it!

  • @NicktheIrishman I've been catching for 3 years. I love it. (:

  • lol hes just standing there getting pegged

  • pretty strong throw at :42-:43

  • ya dude that older guy kicks ass

  • Hard throw, but a very slow load.

If he got it out faster, it would improve pop time.

  • yall check out my throwin video of me catchin let me know wt cha think

  • Lousy....the only thing the catcher should do is catch the ball from the pitcher and throw it back to the pitcher....they're a catcher...not a fielder.

  • hahaha, your funny, lets see you get behind a 90mph ball. Try it sometime, its harder than you think

  • espike im a varsity catcher in the bay area and i catch mid to high 80's...i completely agree...bein a catcher means that u have to be a leader, u have to block, and u have to have a gun....timmy, lets see u block 90 mph fastballs and throw a 2.0 down to secondd....and its harder than u think...ive worked my whole life on my game,... and it takes perfection to get a 2.0 pop time consistently

  • Hey thanks, I'm a varsity catcher too, but i play in souther california, and i totally agree about being a leader as a catcher. Thanks for the reply!

  • hey kool my best tyme 2 second base was a 1.9 but that was last year im pretty sure i should b able to hit a 1.8 consistantly i will post up sum video of me catchin after my season is up i would say i gunned out 85% of my baserunners maybe 80% n timmy if u think it is easy come 2 my school where u gotta catch people like 85 + everygame its tough u would b scared

  • timmylea you've probably never caught before in your life. blocking is easily the hardest thing to do defensively in baseball and catchers have to do just that...alot! so please think before you speak buddy

  • Excellent !!! The only thinf I would have added are duckwalks for the workout.
