  • Why are the students overaged?

  • cut the Marius some slack. the orchestra was not keeping the beat well. and the tempo was way too fast.

  • Whoo, thankyou sooo much for posting these! <3 Anthony <3

  • Holy cow! One of the Doobie Brothers was in Les Miz?

  • Sorry, never heard of AW before, untill I saw him doing a great and funny performance in "Patience". It brought me to this video. This is absolutely stunning, 1:55 - 2:55, this mans voice is so powerfull. What a great singer he is, from now on one of my favourites. Thanks for shearing. Gr., Y. from Holland.

  • Warlow is one of the greatest singers to grace musical theatre, imo. I loved his voice so much when I grew up listening to this cast album. It's just so stunning.

  • Anyone know who's singing the part of Marius? This singer is really good!

  • @hotqueekboi Peter Cousens.

  • A W is so watchable, talented and beautiful, very best wishes

  • enjolras always seems to end up as a phantom...

  • I can only repeat myself: WW stand for the Wonderful Warlow

He is the king of all the Enjolrases

(second is Maguire - I love him too)

  • Anthony Warlow is fabulous, as usual; but I was wondering: is this a concert version or a regular show or what?

  • @AllOverAussie Is the Australian Day concert. Not a regular show.

  • i feel like the whole time anthony's singing he's thinking "i'm enjolras, bitch."

  • The 6 vote for no is onbelieveble. Les Mis is a fantastic musical, and Warlow and his friends did a great job.

  • didnt know the students in the 1800's had mullets and receeding hairlines :|

BUT mr warlow. u r amazing. u make me proud to be an aussie male singer :D

  • Marius sucks. Anthony Warlow is FLAWLESS!

  • Six people are colorblind.

  • WOW!!! I would love to see ALL of this production!

  • @hairyeahyeah

    o me too

  • THE BEST ENJOLRAS EVER!!!!!!!!!!

  • "Grantaire, put the bottle down!" that's the best interpretation of that line I've heard! Awesome! Love ya Tony!

  • @generalkenji

I would say Ramin Karimloo at the 25th Anniversary concert is better (absolutely brilliant)

  • @lizlk you're KIDDING!? no way...not...never.

  • @peskytresky

Actually I'm not. However I was just referring to the interpretation of that line. I love how Ramin actually points downwards to match to the line. Personally I love the power in Anthony's singing ( though I also love also Michael Maguire and Ramin too)

  • @lizlk ah. Okay

  • @lizlk I have to agree. Everyone else just seems second rate to me.

  • haha. he has hair. lots and lots of hair. it actually looks unnatural. wig.

  • I love how they took Anthony Warlow's perfect blond Enjolras hair and put the world's ugliest wig over it.

  • anthony warlow = <3

marius sir, you are incredibly annoying to watch. stand still.

  • oh, grantaire. I love you. Very nice performance. makes me happy.

  • Oh My God Anthony's voice just makes me melt! He and Michael Maguire are just book-perfect as Enjolras. Just a shame Anthony doesn't appear to be blond in this vid - Enjolras should definitely be a blond.

  • i know these guys are very good - in other things. les mis TAC makes them look like effeminate school boys doing the same song. there is just no fire in them. sorry, i meant no offense.

  • This Enjolras is very very good, but my favourite is Michael Maguire.

    Marius.... well... uhh... :-(

Is he a boy? I don't know. Sorry.

Warlow is wonderful => W for Warlow the wonderful

    He became my other favourite

    Bonnie

  • Best Enjolras every. WIthout a doubt.

  • What a tank of a voice! :) Fantastic!

  • the guy playing grantaire makes a mistake right? coming in late? well good though.

  • Wish they'd bring some of these classics back to Australia again - I've got time to go now with my babies grown up..... Peter Cousins - great voice too

  • I love at 3:22 when he forgets to sing. I almost die of laughter every time i watch it. the guy next to him looks so pissed too.

  • I am having a complete blank - who plays Grantaire in this video please ?

  • I am having a complete blank - who is playing the role of Grantaire in this video please ?

  • Maguire's (even Burt's) Enjolras is more representative... idk..

    Marius LMAO! GIRL!

  • Wow that Marius really sucks. And it's quite weird that Warlow opted out of the high note (A or G I forget), but nowadays he can sing Phantom's role with embellishments. His voice has improved so much since this was recorded, and his range has improved where most men lose range and tone.

  • Comment removed

  • the marious is fail!

  • @JJetster87 yes. i agree with you.

  • This is incredible. I remember listening to the OBCR and hearing Enjolras's songs, and thinking about how the guy vaguely sounded like Warlow, and how I'd love to hear Warlow sing this role.

And now here it is! I want to lick this man's vocal cords. He is just that good.

  • With the exception of Anthony Warlow this is kinda like a high school production.

  • Comment removed

  • What?! No high Ab at the end?

Oh, and the orchestra sounds awful.

  • Comment removed

  • Does anyone have this whole concert somewhere?

  • thanks for uploading this Warlow is one of my favourite singers.

  • It's Anthony Warlow can I Give It 1000 stars i saw him in HMS Pinifore live about ten times and tried to see him in two other shows but sadly missed him and this song like everything he sings is amazing.

  • fhdfjvfdbchfsdrgcgdxvfjsbvdzjdcxvjdufsn vnjkv ognvchuyyzzfd byhxgxdfgcfdcfcfzvzsevxzfvxvr'vhzioyzviuryvrziuhvgtuygdhiuyfufxdv dhhkjhxfvugvudfych vc

  • Cut off here in the UK I've only just discovered Warlow! Now I'm downloading everything I can find. Superb, powerful emotive delivery.

  • who plays marius

  • Peter Cousens, I was lucky enough to see them both perform at Sydney back in 1988

  • I totally fell in love with this voice when I first heard it on the Les Mis recording. It's been sometime more than a decade and I still appreciate his voice very much. It's not just a pretty baritone voice but I love his way of delivering emotion. How brilliant it is now that people from other continents get to see these clips on the internet!

  • I love how the "students" all have receding hairlines :D

  • @nekwera such were the fashion...Look at Napoleon...and some students never get out of school....;-)

  • Thanks for posting - Anthony is an amazing performer - always totally committed, with a great (and versatile) voice

  • Warlow = billion times better than that wannabe Thaxton

  • @thesilvershining You have no idea what you're talking about, truly. It's quite sad that you feel the need to insult incredibly dedicated and talented performers on other videos.

  • @LegsandJump @LegsandJump Dear, we've gone over and over this already, don't you remember? Just because I don't like Thaxton's singing doesn't mean I think he's a bad actor, his acting is fine, I just can't take him as Enjolras. At all. Your opinion is yours, mine is mine... why does this mean I "have no idea what I'm talking about?" Just because you think Thaxton is god doesn't mean I do, nor does it mean every Les Mis fan loves Thaxton. Because they certainly don't.

  • @thesilvershining ??? I don't think he's "god". This is about Enjolras. Everyone that has seen him agrees that he's perfect for the role. It's nonsense to be insulting and call him a "wannabe". Especially when you don't know him, have never seen his performance, etc. It's ignorant to make comments like that and I was pointing that out. Just because someone doesn't do it for you doesn't mean you can judge them. I agree that we leave it, but I needed to respond something as patronising as that.

  • @LegsandJump Also, these comments were from months ago when we first talked, I've not even commented on Les Mis videos or any videos for awhile as work is busy and it's summer... computers and summer don't mix :P

  • I like Anthony very much, I'm so glad he was in the Complete Symphonic Recording and he's amazing. But in my heart Michael Maguire will always be Enjolras.

  • I like the way Grantaire is played here. As for Anthony Warlow - I'm an atheist :-) but he's not bad, not bad at all.

  • Brilliant video. At 3:21 the guy almost forgets to sing "Red" and the guy with the glasses is like "HEY Its your line!!!"

  • Haha... That was awesome

  • @Rwiggum3 he had 1 word to sing... and he forgot!!

he was to busy trying to figure out if Marius is a boy or a girl

  • What is this video from? Anthony Warlow ftw.

  • TAC Les miserables concert. Australia. 1989

  • Enjolras is the coolest motha F'er in this entire play, he is so downplayed

  • OMG I laughed so f-in hard at Courfeyrac's hair/beard thing.

AW is awesome. Very Enjolraic. Very book!Enjy like. I just wish he had a blonde wig instead of brunette one. Atleast Combeferre has glasses

  • I hope You mean Feuilly, Combeferre doesn'twear any glasses in this vid.

  • whoops, sorry I just saw glasses and assumed Combeferre. Thanks for correcting me (-:

  • According to the lines it is Feuilly wearing the glasses - and he was not even a student.

  • Soundman played Enjolras in college.

  • Yeah! You are absolutely right!!! Anthony is the god of musical theatre... Respect to You and to Anthony from Russia!

  • Beauty! Loving Anthony Warlow's performance. Also love how he looks here, wig and all. :-D

  • Beauty! Loving Anthony Warlow's performance. And he's very handsome here, wig and all. :-D

  • that "quivery voice effect" you speak of is called vibrato and natural vibrato is a sign of good technique.

Also, Anthony Warlow plays a much more reserved and accurate Enjolras

  • O.M.G. ANTHONY WARLOW IS A MUSICAL THEATRE GOD!! I used to be a big fan of Maguire. Then I looked up who sang Enjolras on the CSR. I <3333 AW!!!

  • Who played Grantaire in this video?

  • Great to see AW perform Enjolras, even in a concert. He really is the best. I would have loved to see him and Philip Quast in "The Secret Garden" to hear them sing "Lily's Eyes" live. Perfection.

Marius , Peter Cousens was a soap star in "The Sullivans"and every one I know who saws him in Les Mis said he was truly appalling. I could tell that just from the recordings I've heard of him in that and "Aspects of Love". His "Love Changes Everything" is worse than what you have just witnessed.

  • anthony warlow totally owns this video

  • You're right. If Warlow was in the TAC then he would have been done justice i think.

  • it's a concert you tool, not a performance. Where do you get off insulting AW, one of the finest musical theatre singers ever.

  • mmm, lol; Did you read "Les miserables". How is the character of Enjolras? Watch phantom of the opera played by anthony you will see he works in every character he have. And please, keep your poison out of my videos, k?

  • unbelieveable...how dare u ppl look down on peter cousens....

  • I really love him, but I wish he hit that note at the end :(

  • LOOOOOOL, LOOOOOL, he hit the note. Its just a musical arrange, and as a matter of fact I preffer this.

  • I still miss the high note from the CD :(

  • ... Is it just me or does one of the students look like Captain Hook?

  • I think it's just a combination of shitty quality and him being too far away from the mic that makes him sound "weak"

  • Anothony Warlowe is the most amazing Enjolras. I mean Maguire is very good, but I think Warlowe is better

  • Best Enjolras I've ever heard!

  • YES SIR!!!!, And one of the best musical theatre voices... with NO DOUBT

  • No doubt indeed! Warlow we need you to do something AWESOME! I hear rumor that he will play Jekyll & Hyde in the film version! MERELY RUMOR! (i hope it's true)

  • @Chriswren9 BEST VERSION OF THIS SONG EVER!

  • Vive Le France bitches

  • it kinda looks like grantaire at 3:23 kind of forgets to sing and then remembers at the last minute lol.

  • Mr. Warlow has a fantastic voice, but there is a very disturbing effect when you compare his actions and his voice.

    Actions: *bored as all getout*

    Voice: *barricadespazz!!*

Just close your eyes when you listen and he isn't making any facial expressions--you'll see what I mean.

  • This wasn't the stage show it was a concert. Australia Day 1989 in the Domain (Garden) in Sydney Australia. 110,000 people watched the show that night and the orchestra was specially increased from 28 to 120.

You don't act during a concert the same as during a stage show - the most important thing is that people can hear and understand your words.

  • IMO it's what Enjolras is supposed to act like in the book. Enjolras is stern and still in the book and I can imagine him speaking with a plain stern look and no active expression at all. Mr. Warlow clearly read the book and I think he was trying to be faithful to that, as he stated in some interview. If you don't buy his interpretation, it's fine. Each one to their own. But I found I liked his Enjolras more after I had seen him in this video.

  • Like allways yajunwindbell... agree!

  • I like his interpretation, I was just observing how his voice often sounds VERY different to what his facial expression seems like it should sound.

  • Anthony Warlow is the best freaking singer on the planet.

  • AMEN TO THAT!!! :D :D

  • Warlow is the BEST at EVERY character he performs!! xx

  • Why did they NOT use him at the 10th anniversary concert?!!!

  • Both Philip Quast and Anthony warlow were doing The Secret Garden at the time. Only one of them was allowed to do it.

  • the guy who plays grantaire is great! warlow... ehm i still prefer maguire XD

  • 5:45...

    WTF?!

HE WAS SUPPOSED TO GO UP!

  • So funny... how young people thinks that singing hi notes is singing good... and you are waiting hi notes to judge a person... Look, just for you to know, anthony warlow has really hin notes, you can hear him perform phantom of the opera or jeckyll, he has like a baritone and tenor range.. its really sick! amazing. What anthony does at the end is called an arrange, nothing more than that

  • Hmm.

    He played in Phantom huh?

    I'll check that out.

Never said he was bad; he just seems a bit 70s.

He's a great actor, just seems a bit too old to be playing Enjolras and to me seems to go a bit too much by the book.

simply my own opinion of course; I did seem a bit immature typing that, but to me it just seemed like you were putting Michael McGuire down just to advertise this guy.

  • That was not my intention, just to share some art. Thats all.

  • Too old? I think Michael Maguire was at least 5 years older than Anthony Warlow when they started playing Enjolras. Warlow was about 27 here, and Maguire was more than 30 when he played Enjolras on broadway.

  • What would be better, singing a note which you aren't that comfortable with or using a note in the same chord, which also works, and is even stronger? No brainer... Warlow is a fantastic artist, just a slight change which suited him better. His voice is just pure and awesome

  • Not to mention he does sing the high note on the Complete Symphonic Recording - so it's not like he doesn't have it. Perhaps it wasn't his choice. Music directors often are the ones who make those choices. This appears to be for Australia television for some event - maybe it was someone else's decision. I still think he's the best - but I like him vocally in anything he does.

  • Best Marius is Michael Ball

    Best Enjolras is Anthony Warlow

    Best Javert is Philip Quast

    Best Valjean is Colm Wilkinson

    Best Eponine is Lea Salonga

  • John Owen-Jones is the only Valjean for me. But for everything else, amen!

  • his hair looked like elvis.... but it sure sounded like the good old Ant!

  • There's no doubt that Warlow's voice is very good, but in my opinion he lacks the passion required for Enjolras-in fact in his first few lines here he sounds bored stiff.

  • I love his acting, he's using his voice to convey his thoughts and feelings more than his acting (which he's acting in a realistic way).

  • So true.... you have such a coherent (dont know if this word in english is ok, lol) point of view. Congratulations!!!

  • I'd follow Warlow into war. lol

Curious. What was this performance for?

  • I think Warlow is by far the best Enjolras!!! as for this Marius well the part alone is the worst male part in the whole show and this bloke is absolute crap which makes Marius even worse!!!

  • wow that last part gave me goose bumps!

  • But most importantly I love love LOVE this show!!! Thanks so much for posting this!!

  • For me is a pleasure.

  • Oh, so many thoughts...firstly, Anthony Warlow is AMAZING! I think he's my favourite Enjolras ever. I wish he'd hit that high note, it's one of my favourite moments in the show and we all know he can do it! But I agree that that the students look older than usual(and are "fluffy" ha ha, but that's just the era I think...same with some of the costumes which have since been changed). Missing that cue was BAD. And Marius..oh Marius..really not good, not good at all..and vaguely creepy (sorry).

  • anthony warlow is so freakin amazing

  • It wasn't the stage show cast. It was Australia Day 1989 in the Domain (Garden) Sydney Australia. It was one of the most amazing nights ever. 110,000 people watched the show that night and the orchestra was increased from 28 to 120. If you have ever heard that score live with that many musicians. WOW. It is Peter Cousens not Michael Ball playing Marius.

  • I should say "It wasn't the entire stage show cast".

  • Hey James!!!! Whats up!!!!! You never enter Skype, want to talk to you man!!!! So many things to ask. Want to know what are you doing now.!!!!!!!!

  • You should say to everyone you were Combeferre!!!!!! and you were there on the stage!!! :D :D

So good to hear about you again

  • Hahahahahahaha that Marius makes me laugh so hard! His facial expressions are twice as hilarious as his voice...and that's saying something! The fact that he singing next to the god of everything musical hardly helps his case...

  • Oh my god, it's so funny... 3:00-3:05 xD.

  • Oh my god, try and compare Marius and Anthony xD. 3:36-3:57. xD xD

  • Warlow was so great in this role...So many little things around this show that he did so well. On the other hand, this is the WORST Marius I have ever heard. Did they take someone off the street?

  • Les Amis in this are so weird lol

  • is that kevin kline??? the student on the far left??

  • I have a question. Why is it they always have Enjolras hair black in it's blonde in the book?

  • This is by far, one of the best questions I have seen in my videos. Answer: Dont know. LOL

  • warlow amazing rest of cast SUCKED i mean what ar they all 40+ and marius is that a girl wow.

  • this looks like a drunk version of les mis :)lol...i'm sorry, but it just looks soo funny and Marius looks like a girl

  • You think Mr. Warlow is drunk?

  • OMG hippie Courfeyrac...

And the guy with glasses being NOT Combeferre... confusing.

    But Anthony is totally enjolraic.

  • Wow! Anthony Warlow looks so young! what year is this?

I just recently saw him as the phantom of the opera in February! it was AMAZING!

  • my quess would be no later than 1990

  • My thoughts on the G#/Ab at the end: E is the tonic of the chord, which is always the strongest note of any chord. The G# is the third, the weakest of any chord. However, the orchestration puts a strong emphasis on the G#, leading us to F major for "People Sing." I think it was a poor discision by the music director to have Anthony sing the E rather than having him take the G#. We all know he can sing beautifully and powerfully well above that!

  • Good point

  • not as good as michael maguire

  • Man........... LOL. What a stupid comment. No more than that. Shows how ignorant you are.

  • I'm ot saying that he's not good. e is really god. I'm just saying not s good as maguire

  • i'm totally agree with you... good but not as maguire!

  • oh so thats why Warlow was the International Les Miserables (complete symphonic) Enjolras and if u try to come back with the Dream cast. The dream cast was the best of Broadway and West end and yes Philip Quast was a member of the U.k Tour before the TAC

  • I thought Quast was part of the international Les Mis

  • he was but he was also a member of the TAC Quast was the original in Austraila then joined the

  • Is this not the oldest group of students you've ver come across?

  • ummm....no???!

  • yer there so old!!!

  • *laughing* Ha! at Marius!

Did they pull some random off the street and make him perform as Marius, or was this actually planned?!

  • somebody put that asshole (Marius) out of his misery!

  • that marius is awful. dang.

  • The only real Marius is Michael Ball. :|

    ...And my boyfriend. :3

  • who's the marius? is that peter cousins or something???

  • yes....it peter cousens not cousins

  • Is this from an Australia Day recording.

  • Warlow was terrific. I was surprised he didn't go up at the end of the funeral rally cry part. If you can it sounds much more impressive, and I'm sure Anthony could.

But the cast in general seemed a little drunk.

  • haha I think they are supposed to act that way if you listen to what he says at the start, "don't let the wine go to your brains."

  • Yes, but missing cues, performing flat and looking confused doesn't give the show a very professional feel.

  • Yea, you're right.
