Sorry, never heard of AW before, untill I saw him doing a great and funny performance in "Patience". It brought me to this video. This is absolutely stunning, 1:55 - 2:55, this mans voice is so powerfull. What a great singer he is, from now on one of my favourites. Thanks for shearing. Gr., Y. from Holland.
Warlow is one of the greatest singers to grace musical theatre, imo. I loved his voice so much when I grew up listening to this cast album. It's just so stunning.
Actually I'm not. However I was just referring to the interpretation of that line. I love how Ramin actually points downwards to match to the line. Personally I love the power in Anthony's singing ( though I also love also Michael Maguire and Ramin too)
Oh My God Anthony's voice just makes me melt! He and Michael Maguire are just book-perfect as Enjolras. Just a shame Anthony doesn't appear to be blond in this vid - Enjolras should definitely be a blond.
i know these guys are very good - in other things. les mis TAC makes them look like effeminate school boys doing the same song. there is just no fire in them. sorry, i meant no offense.
Wish they'd bring some of these classics back to Australia again - I've got time to go now with my babies grown up..... Peter Cousins - great voice too
Wow that Marius really sucks. And it's quite weird that Warlow opted out of the high note (A or G I forget), but nowadays he can sing Phantom's role with embellishments. His voice has improved so much since this was recorded, and his range has improved where most men lose range and tone.
This is incredible. I remember listening to the OBCR and hearing Enjolras's songs, and thinking about how the guy vaguely sounded like Warlow, and how I'd love to hear Warlow sing this role.
And now here it is! I want to lick this man's vocal cords. He is just that good.
It's Anthony Warlow can I Give It 1000 stars i saw him in HMS Pinifore live about ten times and tried to see him in two other shows but sadly missed him and this song like everything he sings is amazing.
I totally fell in love with this voice when I first heard it on the Les Mis recording. It's been sometime more than a decade and I still appreciate his voice very much. It's not just a pretty baritone voice but I love his way of delivering emotion. How brilliant it is now that people from other continents get to see these clips on the internet!
@thesilvershining You have no idea what you're talking about, truly. It's quite sad that you feel the need to insult incredibly dedicated and talented performers on other videos.
@LegsandJump@LegsandJump Dear, we've gone over and over this already, don't you remember? Just because I don't like Thaxton's singing doesn't mean I think he's a bad actor, his acting is fine, I just can't take him as Enjolras. At all. Your opinion is yours, mine is mine... why does this mean I "have no idea what I'm talking about?" Just because you think Thaxton is god doesn't mean I do, nor does it mean every Les Mis fan loves Thaxton. Because they certainly don't.
@thesilvershining ??? I don't think he's "god". This is about Enjolras. Everyone that has seen him agrees that he's perfect for the role. It's nonsense to be insulting and call him a "wannabe". Especially when you don't know him, have never seen his performance, etc. It's ignorant to make comments like that and I was pointing that out. Just because someone doesn't do it for you doesn't mean you can judge them. I agree that we leave it, but I needed to respond something as patronising as that.
@LegsandJump Also, these comments were from months ago when we first talked, I've not even commented on Les Mis videos or any videos for awhile as work is busy and it's summer... computers and summer don't mix :P
I like Anthony very much, I'm so glad he was in the Complete Symphonic Recording and he's amazing. But in my heart Michael Maguire will always be Enjolras.
Great to see AW perform Enjolras, even in a concert. He really is the best. I would have loved to see him and Philip Quast in "The Secret Garden" to hear them sing "Lily's Eyes" live. Perfection.
Marius , Peter Cousens was a soap star in "The Sullivans"and every one I know who saws him in Les Mis said he was truly appalling. I could tell that just from the recordings I've heard of him in that and "Aspects of Love". His "Love Changes Everything" is worse than what you have just witnessed.
mmm, lol; Did you read "Les miserables". How is the character of Enjolras? Watch phantom of the opera played by anthony you will see he works in every character he have. And please, keep your poison out of my videos, k?
No doubt indeed! Warlow we need you to do something AWESOME! I hear rumor that he will play Jekyll & Hyde in the film version! MERELY RUMOR! (i hope it's true)
This wasn't the stage show it was a concert. Australia Day 1989 in the Domain (Garden) in Sydney Australia. 110,000 people watched the show that night and the orchestra was specially increased from 28 to 120.

But I found I liked his Enjolras more after I had seen him in this video.
So funny... how young people thinks that singing hi notes is singing good... and you are waiting hi notes to judge a person... Look, just for you to know, anthony warlow has really hin notes, you can hear him perform phantom of the opera or jeckyll, he has like a baritone and tenor range.. its really sick! amazing. What anthony does at the end is called an arrange, nothing more than that
He's a great actor, just seems a bit too old to be playing Enjolras and to me seems to go a bit too much by the book.
simply my own opinion of course; I did seem a bit immature typing that, but to me it just seemed like you were putting Michael McGuire down just to advertise this guy.
Too old? I think Michael Maguire was at least 5 years older than Anthony Warlow when they started playing Enjolras. Warlow was about 27 here, and Maguire was more than 30 when he played Enjolras on broadway.
What would be better, singing a note which you aren't that comfortable with or using a note in the same chord, which also works, and is even stronger? No brainer... Warlow is a fantastic artist, just a slight change which suited him better. His voice is just pure and awesome
Not to mention he does sing the high note on the Complete Symphonic Recording - so it's not like he doesn't have it. Perhaps it wasn't his choice. Music directors often are the ones who make those choices. This appears to be for Australia television for some event - maybe it was someone else's decision. I still think he's the best - but I like him vocally in anything he does.
There's no doubt that Warlow's voice is very good, but in my opinion he lacks the passion required for Enjolras-in fact in his first few lines here he sounds bored stiff.
I think Warlow is by far the best Enjolras!!! as for this Marius well the part alone is the worst male part in the whole show and this bloke is absolute crap which makes Marius even worse!!!
Oh, so many thoughts...firstly, Anthony Warlow is AMAZING! I think he's my favourite Enjolras ever. I wish he'd hit that high note, it's one of my favourite moments in the show and we all know he can do it! But I agree that that the students look older than usual(and are "fluffy" ha ha, but that's just the era I think...same with some of the costumes which have since been changed). Missing that cue was BAD. And Marius..oh Marius..really not good, not good at all..and vaguely creepy (sorry).
It wasn't the stage show cast. It was Australia Day 1989 in the Domain (Garden) Sydney Australia. It was one of the most amazing nights ever. 110,000 people watched the show that night and the orchestra was increased from 28 to 120. If you have ever heard that score live with that many musicians. WOW. It is Peter Cousens not Michael Ball playing Marius.
Hahahahahahaha that Marius makes me laugh so hard! His facial expressions are twice as hilarious as his voice...and that's saying something! The fact that he singing next to the god of everything musical hardly helps his case...
Warlow was so great in this role...So many little things around this show that he did so well. On the other hand, this is the WORST Marius I have ever heard. Did they take someone off the street?
My thoughts on the G#/Ab at the end: E is the tonic of the chord, which is always the strongest note of any chord. The G# is the third, the weakest of any chord. However, the orchestration puts a strong emphasis on the G#, leading us to F major for "People Sing." I think it was a poor discision by the music director to have Anthony sing the E rather than having him take the G#. We all know he can sing beautifully and powerfully well above that!
oh so thats why Warlow was the International Les Miserables (complete symphonic) Enjolras and if u try to come back with the Dream cast. The dream cast was the best of Broadway and West end and yes Philip Quast was a member of the U.k Tour before the TAC
Warlow was terrific. I was surprised he didn't go up at the end of the funeral rally cry part. If you can it sounds much more impressive, and I'm sure Anthony could.
Why are the students overaged?

Oh, so many thoughts...firstly, Anthony Warlow is AMAZING! I think he's my favourite Enjolras ever. I wish he'd hit that high note, it's one of my favourite moments in the show and we all know he can do it! But I agree that that the students look older than usual(and are "fluffy" ha ha, but that's just the era I think...same with some of the costumes which have since been changed). Missing that cue was BAD. And Marius..oh Marius..really not good, not good at all..and vaguely creepy (sorry).

anthony warlow is so freakin amazing

It wasn't the stage show cast. It was Australia Day 1989 in the Domain (Garden) Sydney Australia. It was one of the most amazing nights ever. 110,000 people watched the show that night and the orchestra was increased from 28 to 120. If you have ever heard that score live with that many musicians. WOW. It is Peter Cousens not Michael Ball playing Marius.

I should say "It wasn't the entire stage show cast".

Hahahahahahaha that Marius makes me laugh so hard! His facial expressions are twice as hilarious as his voice...and that's saying something! The fact that he singing next to the god of everything musical hardly helps his case...

Oh my god, it's so funny... 3:00-3:05 xD.

Fiyero06 3 years ago
I thought Quast was part of the international Les Mis
RandomPersonman 3 years ago
he was but he was also a member of the TAC Quast was the original in Austraila then joined the

Warlow was terrific. I was surprised he didn't go up at the end of the funeral rally cry part. If you can it sounds much more impressive, and I'm sure Anthony could.
But the cast in general seemed a little drunk.
Elheru42 3 years ago
haha I think they are supposed to act that way if you listen to what he says at the start, "don't let the wine go to your brains."
lightscameraaction24 3 years ago
Yes, but missing cues, performing flat and looking confused doesn't give the show a very professional feel.
Elheru42 3 years ago
Yea, you're right.
