mate i make it a bit differently,i make the crossed notched sticks that interlock,then i put a piece of wood on top of the cross that locks onto the base planted stick,which holds logs or rocks,when the trigger is knocked the stick on top of the crossed stick pops out and it dead falls,its sort of hard to explain

Nice mate, just giving u a tip put a rock or flate surface object under the base (middle stick) so that the stick does not get stuck and stick in the ground greatly slowing down your trap. :)
