Speaking of things on people's heads, recently for my library's Harry Potter party I calculated the formula for creating the Perfect witch's(wizard's) hat. And I use this term mathematically, for it includes with Golden Ratio.

Measure your head's circumference, this measurement now X. You will need a piece of paper 4X/pi long and 4X/pi(mu) wide. where Mu is the Golden Ratio or ~1.61..etc etc. You will now have a Perfect Rectangle that will make a witches hat exactly your size. TBC

Perfect Rectangle (PR) is an aesthetic definition of the Greeks for rectangles of this ratio. Wiki it.

Cut your PR in half lengthways, you will now have 2 PRs of exactly half the area (cool yes?). Take one PR and mark a line(L) across half down it's length. Span L with your protractor and draw an arc out to both width edges of the paper. This arc is the base of your cone. Cut along the arc and curl the paper up to make a cone. Now on to PR2 for the brim! TBC

Take PR2 and mark a point in the exact middle. Get your protractor and draw the biggest circle possible. Now halve that radius and draw a second circle. Cut along both circles. You now have your brim. The inner circle is exactly the same size as the base of the cone. Attach and voila! Your Perfect Wizard's hat! The side of the cone is exactly as long as the brim is wide and it is exactly the size of your head. The Ancient Greeks will think you're V. Stylish.
