I agree that one needs to learn martial art stading and on the floor to be able to go for MMA or full contact. I did TKD 35 years ago, way before WTF(a soft TKD only good for the olympics) and ITF(which is a real martial art but they added punch in the face). Chang Moo Kwan, my style is a much more complex and complete TKD and a lot tougher, including fighting against 2 and 3, braking bricks and tiles(not the fake wood) floor 1 step sparring techniques, learning how to defend from knife,...
The mistake at 2:27 is exactly what I do... but I don't quite get what he is doing wrong... could someone help me out? is it just the head that is lowered too much?
@TheFinalStep You have to lower your upper body when your legs are on the descending phase, because if you lower your body too early before you kick you will fall out of balance. The reason why you should lower your body while the kick is so you can achieve balance between your legs and your body, that's the same when you're doing side kick.
The way it's demonstrated here, it's a competition kick. It's obviously WTF and highly geared towards sparring, and is modified as such. The striking area is different, as is the snapping motion of the actual 'hook' movement when the kicking leg is fully extended before impact. They made no real attempt to hide the fact that it's flashy for comps and demos, so I don't know why there's debate over it. The guy's got clean technique, it's just differently applied.
Hey guyz..whats wrong with you..?dont be like that...in the peace world now, martial arts is used to be sports and knowledge..not to be hurting n disturbing each other..so,its doesnt matter which is the best..which is the worst..because we are one..remember,aLL 4 one, n one 4 aLL...PEACE^^
your statement is half right tkd as sport is sport. but ancient arts or traditional arts are not sport. Basically mma ufc are not taught arts but sports true tae kwon do and alone with many other fightings styles are not sports. the peace part i also agree but anyway happy to learn other people views god bless
I'm getting pretty tired of people saying that Taekwondo doesn't work. If you have taken taekwondo and it doesn't work then you should find a new teacher. Taekwondo has already started to evolve. Wake up people. some good taekwondo schools are incorporating more punches and adding a roundhouse kick similar to muay thai. Also, hard body conditioning. Warning to all: all fighters and martial artists are evolving. Underestimate your opponent and you will get drop. bottom line
I just wanted to add that there are a lot of Mcdojos that are giving martial arts a bad name. Learn to differentiate from the real ones from the fakes. All martial art styles have techniques that works and ones that don't . I love boxing, muay thai, kyokushin, kung fu, jiujitsu and taekwondo and I can tell you that none of them are the best. The best is a mixure of all of them.
@GetDamage The best is dont fight at all. Many times, fights can be avoided. When 2 person fights, both will also get injured but some fight but never thought they will get kick back as well.
theres more ways and types of doing this kick... Also dont compare TKD to Muay Thai kickboxing Kung Fu etc... Every Art and sports has its ups and downs like pros and cons...
I had stopped tae kwon do several years ago now I want to learn some kicks on my own, I was looking for such a video showing the right motions in different phases and slowed down. Thank you !
this is a very good video to correct yourself on some postures, but the only problem is that the guy showing the kick is a real MASTER of this kick xD...so some people might get a little bit frustrated when they are not able to do it the right way xP (not my case =D)....i think so at least =O
oh and skaptee if you talking to me i would destroy this kid, TKD fighters are NOT trained to take kicks the the ribs the legs the shins there not, and YES some TKD has good moved very fluent very quick, but there not trained like Muay Thai fighters i trained in thailand for 5 years, and masters of other martial arts will agree with me that MT training is the hardest, are kicks are the most powerful, and we also have the single most damaging attack in Martial arts our knee's! MT for life!!
To each his own. Each martial arts discipline has its ups and downs, so don't knock on TKD or any other types for that matter. TKD has evolved into a competition sport where certain rules apply (i.e. not kicking below the belt, certain parts of the back, but in a street fight I would!) to make the match an enjoyable learning process where people test each other's capabilities on the mat. As far as destructive fighting goes, I'd be a fool to rely and abide to just one martial arts type..
i think that many of you people are generalising types of martial arts too much
you cant say that EVERYONE who practices and teaches TKD dont train to take hits to body parts, also you cant say that a kick has more power than another, it depends on the person who is kicking, if a person trains hard for a year they will be stronger than a person who trains for 10 years but is lazy
because TKD is so popular you get a lot of retards who think they are amazing at it and then give it a bad name
the last part u said is so true, how come i didnt think of it! so many ppl say taekwondo sux, and how it has alot of bad practitioners. well of course that'll be the case, since taekwondo is the most popular martial art in the world now, u got alot more ppl doing it that sux. once again, great comment langov3.
well to all the na sayers, i have fought TKD opponents and i have one all 4 of them, so tkdkid94 tell that to the four losers i put on there asses with my elbow and knee's!!!! MUAY THAI FOR LIFE BITHCES!!!
TKD is a good style, but alot of it is flashy not to say its not effective, but im a muay thai fighter and when i look at this kick i see so many things as a muay thai fighter do destroy this guy, his balance is WAY off i would kick the leg he is standing on and knock him down and that could be all i have to do to knock him out, hes leaving his stomach wide open for a muay thai kick straight to it
estan padres la instruccion q estan dando porq hay ocaciones q en las academias no t corrigen posturas y asi tu ya t das cuenta para corregirlas m gusto ya lo agre a mis favoritos saludos bye
people who havent had an opponent in front of them performing these kind of kicks dont understand how confused they make people. u really dont know when to advance, retreat, or move to the side, cos there is so many different kicks and many look similar just when the attack is being made. only experts can react correctly
Very similar. The demonstrations show spinning hook kick, with kicking leg slightly bent, then later, shows spinning heel kick, with the kicking leg straight. The practitioners demonstrating are showing excellent style and technique.
Yh... if you translate the name of this kick from korean to english... people think you get back spinning kick. But a correct translation would be spinning hook kick.
Most guys who practice tkd only thing of competition, but if you put your mind in street fighting, tkd is very, very useful...you can even break some bones with kicks like that if you know how to perform it propperly...
this kick is really useful in combo or fast counter attack (jumping variant), if you don't know how useful this kick, please don't say it isn't. TKD is an effective martial art, if thaught correctly (not only for competition rules).
Wow h4eafy REALLY? That's weird because Bruce Lee used to do a similar kick alot. What I think is you tried that kick at one point and couldn't do it, then you said to yourself "oh that'll never do work" and quit TKD all together. But whatever I don't care what you think.
This kick is more of a counterattack move (especially against a punch) than an attack move. If you want to attack with this kick, then you must place this kick to be your second or third kick.
I got a guy with this kick once and I got kicked by that kick twice. One of those times, I got knock down and my upper-lip got a tear and I was bleeding. The same guy that made me bleed with that kick, kick another guy with the same kick and broke that other guy's jaw. Whoa, scary.
why all these martial styles never entered in the boxing professional world so they can earn
something.
they cannot compete boxers in real competition.
judo makes a sense all other arts they lack something what is that

TKD = Olympic sport
there are ultimate fighting, boxe, jiu jitsu and many other which would be perfectly applied on street fighting.
13 years on tkd

street fight iz nothing but crap shit which showz no art of fighting...
any martial art will beat it...
btw TKD is also known as martial art...
its same as kung fu being advanced into wushu which is also a martial art...
TKD has its own speciality...
one kick nd its over....
ok tc..^^

you obviously dont know the difference between WTF taekwondo and ITF taekwondo, otherwise you would not call TKD in general an olympic sport
