This reminds me of Porcupine Tree which is awesome because I just learned that Steve Wilson from PT helped produce this and two other albums. If you like opeth check out Porcupine Tree.
I absolutely love this song. The whole Damnation album is just wonderful. I also have the Lamentations DVD where they do this entire album live for the first half of the show.
@Lifewontwait29 Yeah! I thought the same thing! It's like "Bleak" is the sequal to this song. He is letting go in this song and then getting revenge in "Bleak"
@LyricsArFun Personal opinion, but i think that if one isn't used to metal the best would be Damnation. Then...probably Watershed, but at the end..all opeth albums are masteripiecies! If you're used to listen to metal i would probably suggest you Blackwater Park.
@BroKEnCaPSLoCk1 "Damnation" is an Opeth album with clean vocals. For a mix of brutal & clean, I recommennd "Watershed" , "Blackwater Park" & "Ghost Reveries". you will love them
@BroKEnCaPSLoCk1 Their Categorized as Progressive Death Metal, so yes very much so. Honestly my favorite album is Ghost Reveries for the sheer brilliance and groundbreaking song writing they displayed. However, every album, every song they have every written is a journey and a story in itself, if you like Concept albums, i recommend "Still Life", its a story of love and longing in a forbidden time. Any and every album is a masterpiece, there is no right answer, just start listening...
@allaboutthemetal9 Hey umm.. im just getting into this progressive type genre.. i ate up everything Opeth had to offer and over played it all, got any suggestions ? I just found porcupine tree. they are awesome too
@green0fairy0boy As far as progressive is concerned, i suggest "The Ocean", "Between the Buried and Me", and please, take a look at "The Devin Townsend Project", that man is a genius and a lunatic, and i absoutley love him, he just put out two new albums this week actually, and both are truely mind bending, one is called "Ghost" and the other is "Deconstruction", but if your into heavy sludge type music with progressive influence, i also suggest "Isis", they are beyoned awesome, so ya, have fun
i literally started crying during this song... and believe me i cry very rarely... it's really awesome that no matter how bad i feel and how is everything in my life going the worst way possible... i can always depend on metal... that it will always make me feel better...
''Music would take over at the point at which words become powerless, with the one and only object of expressing that which nothing but music could express.''
Damn you don't even know how much I miss my love.
man this music just takes me places... this band is just amazing! I'm so honored to have met Mikael and the band once in my lifetime! Mikeal is such a humble and appreciative person. I can't even remember what stupid things I mumbled to him, but he still acted like I said something meaningful! LOL Great guy!
Some people waste their time posting negative comments about music they don't like, ignore them, it's what they do to make their days less awful. They won't find us trolling their anime and boy band posts, right?
TBH not my favorite Opeth tune (simply a matter of mood preference) but like everything else they do, it's light years better than anything I've ever written so hat's off regardless.
Hahaha first song I listened to when I laid in bed in the middle of my first acid trip... Hahahahahahahaha.... hahahahahaha.... oh god no one else even has any clue what this song can potentially sound like...
I was trying to sleep one night, and had the idea to listen to the whole Damnation album while lying down. Lost in my thoughts, it felt like the whole album lasted less than five minutes, but the most amazing part, was the end of this particular song, the last track in the album. The keyboard sound fading out, while Mike keeps whispering, and then, just silence.
I was like... "Wow... what a way to such a beautiful album..."
Many people see this song as boring because its not heavy. I see it as one of the most powerful songs on the planet, especially when you go into a trance like me =') Opeth.. Wow <3
i used to hate this song.i said 'wtf''when i first listened to it.but now it is one of my fave ones.cuz it carries a unique touch, its unusual.sorry for my English btw
The ability to transform emotion into sound is the art of music, and Opeth are highly talented in this field. Both subtle and heavy feelings are communicated incredibly well in their songs.
He sing Death Growls in all the albums excempt in Damnation @clayden.... Not a Opeth fan much are ya????? Damntion as the only all acoustic record......

Damnation for me is for the days you just feel so melancholic, empty. Thinking of how your heart got broken, getting rejected.
I just stay up late, its dark and quite in the house. Plug my headphones and listen to it all night, drowning in my sorrow...
