@LyricsArFun Personal opinion, but i think that if one isn't used to metal the best would be Damnation. Then...probably Watershed,but at the end..all opeth albums are masteripiecies! If you're used to listen to metal i would probably suggest you Blackwater Park.

Honestly my favorite album is Ghost Reveries for the sheer brilliance and groundbreaking song writing they displayed. However, every album, every song they have every written is a journey and a story in itself, if you like Concept albums, i recommend "Still Life", its a story of love and longing in a forbidden time. Any and every album is a masterpiece, there is no right answer, just start listening...

@green0fairy0boy As far as progressive is concerned, i suggest "The Ocean", "Between the Buried and Me", and please, take a look at "The Devin Townsend Project", that man is a genius and a lunatic, and i absoutley love him, he just put out two new albums this week actually, and both are truely mind bending, one is called "Ghost" and the other is "Deconstruction", but if your into heavy sludge type music with progressive influence, i also suggest "Isis", they are beyoned awesome, so ya, have fun

I was trying to sleep one night, and had the idea to listen to the whole Damnation album while lying down. Lost in my thoughts, it felt like the whole album lasted less than five minutes, but the most amazing part, was the end of this particular song, the last track in the album. The keyboard sound fading out, while Mike keeps whispering, and then, just silence.

I was like... "Wow... what a way to such a beautiful album..."
