  • My late grandfather, Irving "Itzy" Riskin, composed and recorded this little diddy. True story!

  • @ThisWorldMusic Your grandfather composed a legacy and a standard-bearer. And the word is 'ditty'.

  • @Juliaflo Thanks for the copy editing. Since we're talking language, typically one doesn't compose a legacy (one leaves a legacy) and it definitely isn't possible to compose a standard-bearer (the term standard-bearer refers to an individual). But I agree, what he did was remarkable and I appreciate your kind words.

  • @ThisWorldMusic Nevertheless, this memorable jingle is, in my opinion, the standard by which many commercial jingles are measured. (This commercial is older than I am, but I won't tell, LOLOLOL).

    Happy New Year.

  • 1947, eh? Long before I was born. (Sorry, that's all I'll tell you. LOLOLOLOLOL).

But I remember this commercial jingle.

  • AjAkcs FFFOOOOOMMMSSS AS IT CLENS

  • Reminds me of that scene in "Up In Smoke" where the blonde skank snorts Ajax off a paper plate and loses her shit. That's probably what those elves were doing just before they had this manic need to clean . . . everything in the frigging kitchen! Damn right they were on coke!

  • @elc1960 That was such a great scene, especially when she starts making all those weird faces and then says "Good shit, Man", or something to that effect.

  • i use to make this stuff in 1977, here what it is... whitener= phosphate... basic ingredient was silex, blu dye, and phosphate, thats what i remember mixing into the bin.... chemical city, what was great for me was, i never had to use soap to shower, after work i just naturally lathered up... after 2 years there, I moved on because i didn't want to loose my lungs or get cancer like all the old guys there... soap is dirty stuff....

  • Ew! Let's slide around in a dirty sink.

  • ok but what do you use to kill the elves?

  • i like scum

  • okayyyy

  • POLISHES AAAND CLEANS?!

  • I think if I saw these guys in my sink, I would run like hell! LOL

  • Ajax - "smells good???" Are You kidding me? It smells like chlorine bleach! The last I knew, chlorine was TOXIC! Poor misguided little cartoon elf/soap junkie.

  • Crackle piled on the pounds a bit... Is this before or after the Rice Crispies jig?

  • 'Say. mister, how are you fixed for blades? (you better check) Please make sure you have.......I'd love to see that one again: Gilette Blue Blades

  • Lots of memories here. Thanks !

  • AJAX is someone from Duckman :)

  • My mother had elves that cleaned the kitchen sink: my brother and me.

  • @chris319 classic

  • i wish i had elves that cleaned my sink =[

  • "Cuts grease faster than any other LEADING cleanser."

Sounds like the wise housekeeper should have been looking into the more poorly selling cleansers.

  • bo bo bo bo booooomm haha nice

  • Yeah.....smells real good....too funny!

  • they died from canser weeks later

  • i never knew colgate owned ajax!

  • what's the name of this product again?

  • it would be better if the elf came with it and did the work to.

  • lol

  • The speaking voice does sound different

(than Thurl's)but I wasn't aware that Joe Silver sang. I was mainly referring to the barbershop quartet singing in the background with the deep voice going bum,bum,bum,bum,bum,bum,...

    Was that J. Silver also?

  • Yes.

  • This commercial to Ajax actually came from 1947, igvmyslf1000pts.

  • hm, good stuff that ajax huh?

  • I remember this, but now that I'm older I now notice that the smallest nome was snorting the ajax.

  • All use AJAX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • do they still show ajax commercials?

  • The jingle is really catchy.

  • This jingle is one of the standards by which commercial jingles are measures.

  • I prefer vim as it kill germs too. someone post an old ad for vim from uk. you can still buy it at wilco. remember folks if it looks dim give it some vim!

  • Haha this is awesome.

  • oh how i love this!- i'm glad someone sent it and i'm glad i own it now- thanks for the great gift pal or dame

  • As I've mentioned previously, 'jsb', James "Shamus" Culhane's New York animation house produced this ad for Colgate-Palmolive-Peet around 1950 (usually seen on "THE COLGATE COMEDY HOUR")- Culhane had previously worked for Max Fleischer in the '30s, so that's why it appears to have that Fleischer/"Famous" look...

  • Arguably, one of the finest jingles of all time.

Use AJAX (boom-boom), the foaming cleanser (ba-ba-boo-boo-boom-boom).

  • At the end, look at the fat guy on the right lol

  • dr. rabbit pwns ajax

  • why are there pixies in the sink?

  • I'd like to see some fan animators on Youtube redo the animation for the new millenium. (Keep the original audio track, though.)

  • The bigger elf with the deep voice was Thurl Ravenscroft of The Mello Men who

sang for Disney (themes from "Zorro" and

"David Crockett") and who was none other than the voice of Kellogg's "Tony the Tiger".

  • Um, actually Joe Silver voiced the big elf, kingpong61.

  • What? No Doctor Rabbit? FAIL!

  • What?

  • he thought it was a youtube poop...

  • Apparently he has REALLY bad judgment of what fail is, too.

  • The youtube poop of this was hilarious too lol

  • "Mmmm - and it smells good, too!"

    But how does it TASTE?

  • LOL! It looks like they have been sampling it themselves!

  • My friend and I have these commercials on the Martin & Lewis Colgate Comedy Hour DVD...seen it so many times we used to sing the jingle! LOL.

  • the first time I saw this I was scared out of my mind

  • that little one is gettin high on ajax

  • This animation resembles the style of Famous Studios (post-Fleischer Popeye toons). Does anyone know who produced the animation?

  • Dude i swear that little one is sniffing in and plugging one nosehole and getting hiiigh

  • genius pure genius

  • I noticed that barbershop music was a fad in commercial jingles. c",)

  • that little ones high from sniffin it lol

  • I love these old commercials. By the way, Ajax is a great cleanser! It's a lot better then Comet or Bon Ami. It doesn't leave a film like Comet either. Unfortunately Ajax it's getting harder to find in the stores. Wish the company would promote it more.

  • Yes, this commercial was seen during "THE COLGATE COMEDY HOUR", when Abbott & Costello were appearing on it about once a month in the early '50s...and this was originally filmed in black & white.

  • This commerical interupted Abbott & Costello.

  • I think these were done in color but filmed in black-and-white...the Ajax can was red and white until about 1959, when the new Ajax with "instant chlorine bleach" went to the blue can it has used, with variations, ever since...

  • This was actually produced by Shamus Culhane's animation unit around 1950, who created the "Ajax Pixies", and animated a lot of early TV commercials for Colgate-Palmolive and other advertisers.

  • Am I the only person who gets giddy over cleaning products?

  • Not at all lol :) I get a weird smile on my face everytime I see a can of Ajax in the store and can't resist going..."So uuuuuuuuuuuuuse AAAAAAAAAAAJAAAAAAAX!"

  • babababa bom! dunno how he does it so fast!

  • The animation and music are much like the old "Mighty Mouse" cartoon- I bet it's from the same production house, probably mid-50's.

  • Does it mean I'm sick in the head when I say I had this image of the elves getting washed down the drain going "Weeeeeee! Mmmm smells good!"

  • LOLOLOLOL!! Not at all!

  • i wonder if the original drawings were done in black and white or if they just let good old black-and-white tv do it's work. If ya wonder where the yella went, I brush my teeth with Pepsodent...haha.

  • sniffing ajax...great idea

  • LOL!! I know right!??! haha!! "Mmmmm! And it smells GOOD too!!" All the elves are high off the Ajax... *sigh*

  • Wow. I forgot how interesting old comercials were.

  • .......ummmmm.......ok. lol

  • Ha! Don't worry.... it's not really supposed to make sense! But you've just gotta love those old time commcials right???

  • Oh, awesome I love these old commercials.Do you have the SOS cleaning commercial, with everybody singing opera songs?

  • LOL, no. I just have this one cuz it's off my Martin and Lewis Colgate Comedy Hour collection. It's my favorite! :)

  • And what about the sos vs. pink pad (Brillo) ads. Hey,I'M losing Soap!!!!!
